00:00 I'm joined by MDL star Mitch Creek who's in Terrain today with his Wolfpack Hoops running a clinic here. Mitch, how was today? How'd it go?
00:07 It was amazing actually. It was really awesome. Early start, nice countryside drive, plenty of water to drive by on the way.
00:14 Some no-fence yards with cows in it which was amazing to see. Throws you back to Horsham in the good old days.
00:20 We came in, the talent was incredible. Some of these young kids have actually got a really bright future and they pick up things really well.
00:26 They were fast learning, they were attentive, they were all respectful. They all kind of had some worries about could they or couldn't they do some of the drills
00:34 but when they had that reassurance, they picked it up and they pushed through to figure out, "Oh, that's how I did it."
00:39 And when you have people with curious minds that are able to learn quickly, they're always going to be in for a lot of progression through their lives.
00:45 Can you tell me a bit about Wolfpack Hoops and where you started it?
00:48 Yeah, so Wolfpack Hoops was only something I started recently. It was about trying to get into the country and regional areas just like I was born in Horsham.
00:55 We didn't have the access to the greatest coaches in Australia but we had some incredible coaches and you can never take that away.
01:01 But the thing is, is now coming to the smaller towns that maybe don't get some of the higher profile coaching that you would love to see.
01:07 And it's about giving them the tools to learn, develop, grow and then slowly build into beginner, intermediate, advanced and professional levels of all the drills we're doing.
01:16 So what you see in some of the videos and sessions is the very beginner but then you have three or four different levels above that.
01:22 So to give them a chance to have a career in professional sport is something that I hope every child gets to have and enjoy just as I have.
01:29 I'm sure you would have enjoyed something like this if you were a kid in Horsham.
01:32 Yeah, for sure. I had opportunities with some amazing coaches. Barry McTaggart, Owen Hewin especially was a big one.
01:39 Steve Bruce, the Bruce family, McDonald's, the Wades, everyone. They were all such a pivotal part.
01:45 Tim Pickett, yeah, it was just an amazing platform for me to be able to grow up in Horsham, see great players, see the talent we had and now take that next step and become someone that someone looks up to is a pretty cool feeling.
01:58 But to come back and to teach it to the next generation of country ballers is the most important thing.
02:02 What do you think about Terang in Southport? Did you do a lot of travelling here when you were younger?
02:06 Nah, I never actually got to Terang actually but it's actually really cool.
02:10 I'm going to go and get a, hopefully there's a bakery open, I can go and get a local meat pie or a sausage roll.
02:14 That's always the best in the country. It's made with love and a little bit of extra pastry and beef too so can't go wrong.
02:20 Are you sure it won't be the last time we see you out this way?
02:22 Nah, I'll be definitely back. Everywhere that I go and do these camps I want to re-engage with and obviously come back, see the kids that come back and go to the next level.
02:29 If they do a beginner course, we do the intermediate. If we do the intermediate, we go and do an advanced one.
02:33 And once we get a little bit more of an uptake in that, then obviously we'll continue to come back every year and hopefully make this a bit of a seasonal thing.
02:40 Straight off, probably your best performance last night, straight down to Terang, how are you feeling?
02:45 Yeah, I'm pretty weary at the moment. Up at 5.45 in the morning after a bit of a late one last night.
02:51 But I'm here, I'm refreshed, I'm rejuvenated. I'll go home, I'll get some good food, have a sleep and jump in the ice bath so I'll be all good.
02:57 And do you reckon we can finish yet at that breakthrough championship this year?
03:00 I hope so, that's the whole plan. We're always trying to win. The championship is the biggest thing for us and all of us as players.
03:07 I think if we stay healthy, we've got a good chance this year.
03:10 Thanks, mate.
