In the Mizoram elections, Chief Minister Zoramthanga has lost in Aizawl East-I, signaling a potential change in government as the rival Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) crosses the halfway mark with 26 wins. The live results update indicates a significant political shift. ZPM's CM candidate Lalduhoma, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Goa, played a crucial role in Indira Gandhi's security in Delhi. These developments suggest a dynamic political landscape and potential transformations in Mizoram's governance.

00:00 internally, the state government's role should be to, you know, spread the development and
00:08 economic emancipation across the state. If the rural Mizoram is not thriving and urban
00:17 Mizoram, you have cafes and, you know, theaters coming up in Aizawl, it's the imbalance. But
00:24 from the central part of the country, from the government at the center, do you believe
00:30 that at East also needs a further step so that the countries and other states are connected
00:36 and people start going there? Not only Mizo people enjoy the coffee in Aizawl cafe, but
00:41 also people, person from India or Gujarat, from Delhi or Gujarat goes there. So can that
00:47 be a possibility?
00:49 Actually that is very much possible. Then one thing I want to impress upon you and also
00:54 to all concerned is that development is one thing, but Mizo see the way we have been protesting
01:01 to defer the date of counting from yesterday to today. It's not because of anything else,
01:08 but as a tribal, as a Christian, we are apprehensive of the fact that the BJP government in Delhi
01:17 is only interested in the development, not in the, you know, tribal, you know, culture
01:24 and then the protection of the religion. I'll tell you a very simple fact is that in Mizoram,
01:30 BJP is not working. Because, because, because of the fact, because of the fact that we,
01:44 this central government, whosoever Congress or BJP, they need to have the development
01:49 with a human face. Okay. With the development with a human face. Say for example, when people
01:57 talk about uniform civil court, I am one of the most enlightened, one of the most enlightened
02:04 Mizo tribal. I've been in the ministry of mines, I work in ONGC, you know, I've been
02:10 in many places. And in fact, I am a graduate mining engineer from your Bihar ISM Dhanbad.
02:15 My elder brother is from mining and machinery. Okay. Okay. So at the same time, I've been
02:22 a product of that 20 years, years of independence, Mizoram independence. So, you know, there
02:28 were times when we measured the level of Mizoraness in terms of the level of your hating the Indian
02:36 or the Hindus. Now that scenario has changed. Like Sanjay Dha has said, Mizos are not very
02:44 enthusiastic about any uprising anymore. But at the same time, we have to remember like
02:51 we have in the constitution, article 371 G, which says that the tribal culture, tribal
02:58 traditions will be protected and no central government act will be implemented until and
03:03 unless it is adopted by the state government of Mizoram. There is a feeling now that with
03:08 Modi coming with the central government, BJP backed by RSS, their main idea is Hindu Dwa.
03:15 So there might be an economic development, but if our tribe, if a community, if our faith
03:20 is in danger. Okay, so the central government has to deal very, you know, tediously, tenderly
03:28 about our culture, tribal sentiments. If it is like that, I think Mizorans really have
03:34 no problem with any particular, you know, party coming to power in New Delhi. Okay.
03:39 That is one thing. Another thing I want to tell you is that Mizorans in a way, we have
03:47 a culture deeply rooted, you know, in a concept what we call "Tumwaina", that is selfless
03:52 service to others. Okay. Now, when we think about, you know, Mizoram getting developed,
03:59 Sanjay Dao will be knowing carefully better, Delhi, Bangalore, even Guwahati, the rich
04:06 are very rich. The poor are very poor. Here in Mizoram, we are equally poor, equally rich.
04:14 Once my chief controller of mines came to Aizawl to visit for a meeting, he was surprised
04:20 to see that Mr. Shantay, you tribals are very well developed. I've been taking him, you
04:25 know, in different houses of my relatives. These people are rich. They have furniture,
04:30 imported furniture from Malaysia and all, you know, the decoration, the design is very
04:35 good. And these are tribals who are not paying income tax, right? Okay. Just asking.
04:40 Yeah, he would know whether they contribute, huh?
04:43 They are richer than me, chief controller of mines. But you say that you are not paying
04:48 income tax. I think you should start paying income tax. You know what he's telling. We
04:53 don't mind. But the thing is that what is most important in our mind is that our tribal
04:57 culture and the faith. Okay. If these are, you know, given a protection, you know, like
05:03 we call clear cut, you know, indication by the central government that don't worry, guys,
05:08 we will take care about you. But please be a good Indian. I think we can be the one of
05:12 the best Indians, one of the most progressive Indians.
05:15 Well, as Friyata, as you told us in the beginning, God's love. We also love you. In your opinions,
05:23 the final word, Mizoram, if there's one message that you want through your experience to give
05:29 to the Mizo people as of now with the change of God at this state, what would it be?
05:35 We see on my personal behalf and on behalf of the other people here also, I want to congratulate
05:42 the ZPM people. And I hope that as per the expectations of the voters, they should be
05:48 able to perform much, much better than the Congress and MNF. And in the process, even
05:55 the parties like us, Congress, MNF, I think we will not be shy off in helping them around.
06:01 And then at the same time, they should also remember that we are there to, you know, crosscheck
06:06 these people, Pokharnoses, wherever is there. Because we all love Mizoram. We all love Mizo
06:12 society. OK, that's one thing. And at the same time, through your channel, what I wanted
06:17 to take advantage of this opportunity is that Mizo's by far, we are very, you know, progressive,
06:24 peace loving. And we have already given up fighting against India since 1986. So we are
06:31 very much Indian now. But at the same time, through your channel, what I wanted you to
06:36 convey the message is that whoever is in Delhi should also take care of us as one of the
06:44 beautiful flowers in the big garden of India. OK, so we want to be, see, please don't mind
06:52 because we are a minority in a minority. So we want to survive as Mizo Indians. Don't
06:59 impose that it should be Indian first and then Mizo. Because for us, survival is very
07:03 important. OK, as you rightly said that we are in a very, you know, disturbed neighborhood,
07:09 Bangladesh, Myanmar. So I think in everything they do, if the government of India shows
07:17 some kind of respect for the people, the 12 lakh population of Mizo, which is not even
07:23 half of the population of Guwahati city. Right. So what I wanted to impress upon you and the
07:29 people concerned is that we are good people. We will do very good. We have already decided
07:35 to become Indians in the year 1986. So we're doing OK. If Mizoram is not developed, India
07:45 cannot develop as well. So the development of India, the signing, India signing has to
07:51 penetrate to Mizoram by way of activist policy, whatever development, BJP, I think everybody
07:57 likes here in terms of development. But in terms of culture, faith, we are apprehensive
08:02 for BJP. So I think we have to, if you take care of this, our discussion will be very
08:09 fruitful. Thank you so much for having me.
