00:00 Gigi Hadid is taking accountability. On Wednesday, the guest in residence founder took to Instagram
00:05 to reveal she did not fact check a recent post she shared related to the Israel-Hamas war.
00:12 As someone of Palestinian descent, the endless heartbreaking news and imagery coming out of Gaza
00:19 has been painful and often overwhelming. It is important to me to share real stories about the
00:24 hardships that Palestinians have endured and continue to endure. But this weekend, I shared
00:30 something that I did not fact check or deeply think about prior to reposting she began. Gigi,
00:37 whose father, Muhammad Hadid, is Palestinian, admitted she regrets what she shared.
00:42 "My focus was intended to be on human rights issues. That is why I also want to reiterate
00:49 that attacking any human, which of course includes Jewish people, is never okay. Taking innocent
00:55 people hostage is never okay. Harming people because they are Jewish is never okay. It is
01:01 wrong," she continued. The 28-year-old has 79.1 million followers on the social media platform
01:08 and acknowledged her situation, writing, "I understand that with the power of my platform
01:15 comes a huge responsibility. I'm human and I make mistakes. But I also hold myself accountable for
01:21 those mistakes." Gigi went on to share more, penning, "I do not stand behind the spreading
01:27 of misinformation and have always condemned using the Free Palestine Movement as justification for
01:34 antisemitism. I owe it to myself and my followers to gather my thoughts and share them in a more
01:40 constructive way as I pursue my goal of bringing attention to violations of international law and
01:46 human rights." She concluded the statement by saying she is continuing to pray for peace, adding,
01:52 "Meanwhile, I will continue to pray for the safe return of all hostages
01:58 and peace and safety for the people of Gaza and Israel."
