00:00 I love an apocalypse movie and your character was like perfect that played into everything.
00:05 He's got like the perfect apocalypse character.
00:07 Right, yeah, because he's expecting it, yeah.
00:11 He's the neighbor you want to know when stuff goes down.
00:15 Sure, yeah, sure, sure.
00:17 So talk to me about that scene with Mahershala and Ethan.
00:21 It was so intense.
00:22 You guys, I thought someone was going to die.
00:24 I didn't know what was going to happen.
00:26 How many takes did you guys do through that?
00:27 What was it like?
00:28 Well, you know, it's a long scene and as you said, it's an intense scene.
00:34 There's a lot that's going on there between the three of us and also the kid sitting in
00:41 the car too and he's like sort of off camera but a very big part of it.
00:46 There's a gun, you know, I have a gun through the whole thing.
00:48 It's a character that you haven't seen until that point in the movie.
00:53 And, you know, Sam gave us a chance to really just play it out and we played it pretty much
01:02 every take we went from top to bottom.
01:04 You know, in the old days when I started, you wouldn't waste that much film, you know,
01:08 because film was expensive.
01:10 So you'd want to break it down to, you know, let's just shoot a little section of it here,
01:15 a little section of it there.
01:16 But these days, you know, on digital, it doesn't matter.
01:18 So, you know, we do one take and we, you know, play it all the way through.
01:23 And it was great for me because, you know, I was only there for like a day or something
01:27 like that.
01:28 But both Ethan and Mahershala are actors that, you know, I've always wanted to work with.
01:35 I think they're both fantastic talents.
01:37 It's crazy to me that all the years that we've been near each other, Ethan and I haven't
01:42 got a chance to do anything, even though we've talked about it.
01:46 And so to get out there and just be knocking the ball back and forth, take after take,
01:51 trying to find new stuff, trying to find new colors.
01:54 It was like an actor's dream.
01:56 It's kind of like an actor's day, you know, that's what it felt.
02:00 You know, you weren't, we weren't beholden to technical things.
02:05 We were just out there playing.
02:07 Yeah, that's so cool.
02:09 It felt that way and it read that way.
02:11 So it was very, very enjoyable.
02:12 I have to tell you, I love your TikTok.
02:15 I am so, I so love seeing an actor of your caliber embracing TikTok.
02:20 Tell me why you weren't like, I don't really care about this TikTok thing like everybody
02:26 else.
02:26 Like you got on board and have fun with it.
02:28 Yeah, I mean, I think that the thing is, is that I don't like to, if I'm going to do something
02:33 and in this case of being just social media, social media in general, I was kind of like,
02:39 you know, kind of flirting with it, you know, and then somebody said, well, if you're going
02:43 to do it, you might as well do it well.
02:45 So I take that up as a challenge and I go, yeah, let me see what I can do.
02:50 Have fun.
02:50 And, you know, long before any kind of social media, I was always somebody who would take
02:56 a video camera, make a dumb little movie and send it to my kids, send it to Kira and send
03:00 it to, you know, whoever just as something to do if I'm not working, you know, so, so
03:06 I enjoy it.
03:07 I have a good time and people, people will get a kick out of it.
03:09 So I get a kick out of it.
03:10 I love it.
03:12 And finally, Footloose, of course, 40 years.
03:14 How does that make you feel?
03:16 It makes me feel Footloose is 40 years old.
03:18 That's what it makes me feel.
03:19 Well, you gave us a little tease when the strike ended, which was so nice.
03:23 And I got to tell you, you still shake it the same 40 years.
03:26 Thank you doing what I can with what I've got.
03:39 (upbeat music)
