Hiyas ng Pilipinas 2023
Transcript
00:00 bringing a different perspective to pageantry.
00:03 That is one of the main goals of the Hiyas ng Pilipinas pageant.
00:07 And this morning, we are live in the studio
00:11 with the finalists of the Hiyas ng Pilipinas 2023.
00:16 Good morning, ladies, and of course, congratulations!
00:19 Good morning!
00:21 Our morning is better, right?
00:23 We have with us Fatima, Jackie, Juviel, Tara, Vanessa.
00:28 Good morning again!
00:30 Good morning!
00:32 First of all, what is the main goal of the Hiyas ng Pilipinas?
00:36 Why is it like a pearl?
00:38 So why is this the title of your pageant?
00:41 So since the meaning of Hiyas in English is a gem.
00:45 So each of us from different provinces and cities is a gem.
00:48 So we want to highlight the beauty, the culture, and the tradition of our provinces
00:52 because we are Hiyas.
00:54 What is the aim of this pageant, especially towards aspiring beauty queens like yourselves?
01:01 Well, Hiyas ng Pilipinas is so much broader than just being a beauty pageant.
01:06 It's actually one of the biggest reasons why the majority of us girls and our ex-co-candidates
01:11 joined in the first place.
01:13 So Hiyas ng Pilipinas, like most pageants, has its own platform and vision and mission.
01:19 And what's really wonderful, ever since the time that we got crowned,
01:22 the day after that, we are already planning and plotting everything that we can do
01:26 when it comes to giving back to the community.
01:28 You know, actually, fun fact, just a couple weeks ago, we were in Sarangani province
01:33 for the homecoming of Miss Fatima here, and we gave back to the community
01:37 the victims of the recent earthquake there that happened in Aglan.
01:42 So yeah, it's definitely the greatest thing that we want to push with Hiyas ng Pilipinas,
01:48 especially with our chairman, Mike Sordilia.
01:50 This is his biggest thing.
01:52 He wants to pay it forward and make sure that we are beauty with a purpose, indeed.
01:57 Speaking of paying it forward, we also heard that one of the main advocacy
02:03 behind this project is to give scholarships to the youth.
02:08 How do you choose the grantees?
02:10 So the Hiyas ng Pilipinas Foundation really aims to give back to the community
02:14 and aims to give access to free quality education to all.
02:18 One of the steps that the foundation will do is to conduct an initial interview
02:23 for the aspiring scholars.
02:25 So first, we will ask for their information.
02:28 We will also ask for their educational background and, of course, financial background.
02:33 And they will take an exam to determine whether or not they're really deserving
02:40 to be part of the scholars of Hiyas ng Pilipinas Foundation.
02:44 We're really grateful to be part of this foundation because, as what Jackie said,
02:49 they really believe in paying it forward.
02:51 So one of also the steps that they will do once the scholars graduated,
02:56 they will either choose between serving as a volunteer in the foundation for three years
03:03 or choosing their own beneficiary or scholars that they will also help.
03:08 So we're really grateful to be part of a foundation that gives back to the community
03:12 and is aligned to our personal focuses as well.
03:16 Definitely.
03:17 It's beautiful, right?
03:18 It's not just about making it beautiful, right?
03:20 It's really about helping with a cause.
03:23 But I noticed that your voice is beautiful.
03:25 Thank you.
03:26 You're a good reporter.
03:28 Thank you. I hope so.
03:30 Alright, tell us about your journey.
03:33 How did you become a part of Hiyas ng Pilipinas?
03:36 Well, it was really great.
03:38 We had our skinning in August.
03:40 And from the very beginning of our screening up until now,
03:44 we really feel the love and the care of our organization, Hiyas ng Pilipinas.
03:49 And of course, with our dear chairman, Mike Sordilia, who has been taking care of us,
03:53 not just with all of us five, but with all the candidates.
03:56 And that is really something that we would love to share with all the ladies out there.
04:01 So with the upcoming screening of Hiyas ng Pilipinas, stay tuned.
04:06 Stay tuned. Please follow and like the page of Hiyas ng Pilipinas for updates.
04:11 Vanessa understands that you're a counselor, right?
04:15 She's a municipal counselor.
04:17 She's a queen of the hall.
04:20 Queen of the hall.
04:22 So how are you arranging your schedule?
04:25 Because you have a lot of projects in your constituents and you're also joining badges.
04:30 Yes. Actually, being a municipal counselor, it was never my plan.
04:36 But I strongly believe that that's God's plan for me.
04:40 And I work to address the needs of our constituents, my constituents in Basista.
04:46 And at the same time, my commitment and responsibility of Hiyas ng Pilipinas is very important.
04:54 And it requires a careful time management.
04:57 Because you have a lot of activities. Fatima is a med tech, right?
05:02 Med tech.
05:03 But now that the pageant is over, what are your plans? Future plans?
05:09 International competitions, maybe?
05:11 I was crowned as Minister of Ceremonial Philippines.
05:14 So I will be representing the Philippines on February.
05:18 Actually, maybe it will be held on UK because the owner is from UK.
05:21 Good luck.
05:22 Yeah, this time I'm representing the Philippines and I'm very excited.
05:25 I just also want to add that Hiyas ng Pilipinas is a national pageant that is based in Cebu.
05:30 So our chairman, Mike Serdile, is from Cebu.
05:34 But the screening process, I'm really going to Lazon, Visayas, and Mindanao to highlight all these girls.
05:41 To really get who will really best represent Hiyas ng Pilipinas.
05:45 So good luck with your competitions.
05:49 But I want to know, of course, what are your personal advocacy in joining this competition?
05:54 Well, me personally, as an only child and I actually don't have parents anymore,
05:59 this advocacy chose me for the circumstances that happened in my life.
06:04 I've been independent for the longest time, surviving and thriving through life despite the circumstances.
06:11 So I am an advocate actually for children who've been abandoned and are struggling with disabilities
06:17 and have actually been bedridden their whole lives.
06:20 So I've done personal initiatives myself, even being alone because, you know, honestly,
06:26 there was a time in my life where I self-reflected and I thought to myself,
06:31 I feel like we all feel this way sometimes, "Oh, my own problems, this is how I feel."
06:36 But if you really put a broader picture and really look outside, there are a lot of people who are struggling.
06:43 There are a lot of people who have less than you.
06:45 So what's important for me and especially for all these girls and our chairman, Mike Sordilia,
06:50 is to make sure that you don't focus on yourself but to really give back,
06:54 put yourself in other people's shoes and make sure that every little step makes a big difference.
07:00 How about you, Jhulie?
07:03 My advocacy is actually really close to my heart because it's also part of my story.
07:07 I grew up as an eldest child and we grew up in a poor family.
07:11 So it was really hard for me to have access to nutritious food and quality education.
07:17 So it's really one of the things that I advocate for right now, quality education and food security.
07:23 It's really something that will really help everyone.
07:27 And it's two things that will lead to success.
07:30 And with this, it will really help the children, especially in the Philippines.
07:36 And having access to these things should be really important because this should be a right, not a privilege.
07:44 Okay, Miss Tara, can you tell us more about your advocacy?
07:48 I don't know if you're familiar with Maya Angelou.
07:50 She was a poet, a woman of color and also a victim of discrimination.
07:55 And her story is actually the foundation of my advocacy, which is anti-discrimination.
08:00 A lot of young girls out there are experiencing bullying from just being different.
08:06 So just like her, I wanted my life to be a testament to all young girls out there that being different is okay.
08:12 And of course, Queen Sihala, what is your advocacy?
08:16 My personal advocacy is that empowering generations, promoting intergenerational support and well-being.
08:23 Which is centered around creating a society where everyone, the children, women and men, elders and LGBTQ+ community can thrive together.
08:32 Because I believe that with the Hias ng Pilipinas, we will create a unity and empowerment that defines the true spirit of Hias ng Pilipinas.
08:40 I feel like the Q&A was really hard for the judges.
08:43 They were really good, very eloquent and they expressed their personal advocacy and what they wanted to share.
08:50 How about you, Fatima? When you go to your international pageant, what will you push through?
08:55 I'm a registered medical technologist by profession.
08:58 And then at the age of 17, actually, I started volunteering in various medical missions and even initiated my own relief operations.
09:04 And working in the hospital, I have witnessed how difficult for our PWDs because they have lack of opportunities.
09:11 They find oppressions, discrimination. That is why I am advocating for persons with disabilities.
09:17 So that is why I'm working with an organization that aims to help all persons with disabilities across the Philippines.
09:22 And together with Hias ng Pilipinas, I know that we can touch so many lives of our PWDs.
09:27 That is why during my homecoming in Sarangani province, we also have two recipients of a wheelchair.
09:33 That is why I'm very thankful, of course, because we got to collaborate with different organizations, non-government organizations around the Philippines together with Hias ng Pilipinas.
09:41 Your advocacy is very good, especially when it comes to the issue of accessibility for persons with disabilities.
09:49 Well, thank you so much, ladies.
09:51 Thank you very much. Congratulations again for your achievements.
09:54 And I hope that you will make your international competitions a great success.
10:01 Thank you so much. We are now joined by Fatima Pisan, Miss Tourism World Philippines 2023 from Sarangani.
10:08 Juvial Anzaluta, Hias ng Pilipinas Miss Continental World.
