The Eyes of Tammy Faye is a 2021 American biographical drama film directed by Michael Showalter from a screenplay by Abe Sylvia, based on the 2000 documentary of the same name by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato of World of Wonder. The film tells the story of Tammy Faye Bakker (played by Jessica Chastain), from her humble beginnings growing up in International Falls, Minnesota, through the rise and fall of her televangelism career and marriage to Jim Bakker (played by Andrew Garfield). Cherry Jones and Vincent D'Onofrio also star. The film is produced by Chastain's production company, Freckle Films.

00:01:18 The PTL also operates Heritage Village in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

00:01:22 The largest Christian campground in the U.S.

00:01:24 They are among the best known figures in the world of television evangelism,

00:01:29 but tonight they are out of business.

00:01:31 Following the scandal that led to founder Jim Baker's resignation last week.

00:01:35 There's debate about how much the Baker scandal will hurt all the television ministries.

00:01:39 And quiet concern.

00:01:40 Warfare among the TV preachers.

00:01:42 In this electronic age the stakes are high.

00:01:44 Millions of followers.

00:01:45 Caught up in the fighting are their fellow evangelist Jimmy Swigert, Oral Roberts, Jerry Falwell.

00:01:49 Now about what some people around here are calling Pearly Gate.

00:01:52 Pearly Gate is the story of Jim and Tammy Baker.

00:01:54 It's remarkably like Watergate, which tainted the name politician.

00:02:00 And such an episode is bound to taint the name preacher.

00:02:06 The Bakers couldn't even get out of their car, there were so many people waiting to see them.

00:02:09 After three months of scrutiny.

00:02:10 Broken by busloads of tourists hoping to get a glimpse of the elusive evangelist,

00:02:15 but they had no better luck than the waiting news people.
