A multiday severe weather threat, including the risk of tornadoes, will unfold over the southern United States throughout the weekend.
Transcript
00:00 It's a relatively quiet start to the
00:02 day here in the South Central States,
00:04 but I want you to look closely
00:06 at the satellite and radar.
00:07 Do you see it?
00:08 I'm talking about the white lines.
00:10 They're coming up from the South
00:12 up from the Gulf that my friends
00:14 that southerly flow of air is
00:15 bringing in more moisture and more
00:17 warmth. You're going to feel it
00:19 today across cities like Dallas.
00:20 Look at the temperature 78 degrees
00:22 as your high and your accurate
00:24 or exclusive forecast is going
00:25 to be 82 in Corpus Christi.
00:27 It certainly does not feel like December,
00:29 but you'll also notice if you look
00:31 closely at the map that it's not
00:33 just sunshine today, more sunshine
00:35 back through central and West Texas.
00:37 But as you look toward Houston,
00:38 Jackson, Mississippi,
00:39 there's some rain in your forecast today.
00:41 Here's a look at that stripe.
00:43 There's just enough Gulf moisture
00:44 and enough energy that we could
00:46 get not just some showers,
00:47 but a couple of thunderstorms today
00:49 and a few of them could pack a punch.
00:51 We have a some risk for severe weather
00:54 back towards cities like Springfield,
00:55 Fort Smith and even Little Rock,
00:57 Arkansas as well.
00:58 It's a some risk,
00:59 meaning some spotty severe weather is possible.
01:01 It's not a big severe weather outbreak
01:03 we're concerned about,
01:04 but severe weather, severe weather,
01:05 hail and gusty damaging winds are possible.
01:07 Please make sure that you're
01:09 staying weather aware now.
01:10 As we turn into the weekend,
01:12 we have more problems across the
01:13 Gulf Coast stretching all the way
01:15 back into the lower Ohio Valley.
01:17 Look from Louisville to Lexington,
01:18 Evansville all the way back to Houston
01:20 down toward Lafayette and even Mobile.
01:22 Across I-10,
01:23 that's how wide are severe weather
01:25 threat is as we start the weekend.
01:27 You'll also notice we've added a
01:29 moderate risk here for more numerous
01:31 storms back toward Jackson, Tennessee,
01:32 back toward Jackson, Mississippi,
01:33 Memphis all the way to Shreveport.
01:35 That potential for a few extra
01:37 severe storms to spark.
01:38 What are we looking for this time?
01:40 Well, the answer is kind of everything,
01:42 and that's the problem.
01:43 Wind and hail.
01:44 Those are the two biggest concerns,
01:46 but flooding and tornadoes.
01:47 The risk is low, but it's not zero.
01:49 Make sure you have the active
01:51 weather app on your phone.
01:52 Have those push notifications
01:53 turned on for your location.
01:55 That way you'll get watches and
01:56 you'll have the palm of your hand
01:58 and you don't have to disrupt.
01:59 Your Saturday plans.
02:00 The goal is not to disrupt your day,
02:02 it's just for you to be prepared if
02:04 severe weather does come into your area.
02:06 Now I'll tell you this much
02:07 after the front leaves,
02:08 it's all about the cooler air and
02:10 you'll feel it on Saturday really
02:12 into North Texas back through
02:13 Oklahoma and even heading through
02:15 the central states.
02:15 The northern plains going to feel
02:17 awfully chilly just as an example.
02:19 Check out Dallas.
02:20 Remember we're going to be
02:21 nearly 80 degrees today.
02:22 We're back down to 61 on Saturday
02:24 and then 56 for your high temperature
02:26 on Sunday. Speaking of Sunday,
02:28 let's talk about a little Sunday night football.
02:30 I've got the Eagles playing the Cowboys.
02:32 I'm staying out of this one big match
02:33 up here and I don't want to get
02:35 in the middle of it, but I'll tell you
02:36 if you are walking to the stadium,
02:38 it's going to be a beautiful but
02:39 chilly night bundle up as you're
02:40 heading out the door.
