00:00 This is kind of a full circle moment
00:01 'cause you actually broke the news
00:02 that you got cast as Regina with the NET.
00:05 And I asked you,
00:07 what do you think Rachel McAdams' reaction will be?
00:09 Do you remember what you said?
00:10 - Oh my God.
00:11 - Mommy, I love her.
00:13 I love you, mommy.
00:14 In a respectful way.
00:15 - Yeah, mommy.
00:16 - Well, I phoned in a favor and we got her reaction for ya.
00:19 - What message would you give to the new Regina George?
00:21 - Oh my gosh, I don't think she can do any wrong.
00:24 She is amazing, you know?
00:26 And she's already got me beat with that voice.
00:30 So I'm just excited to see her incarnation
00:35 and it's such a great character.
00:36 It's so much fun to play.
00:38 So I hope she has a great time with it
00:40 and I can't wait to see it.
00:42 - She's so cool. - This is crazy.
00:42 - Come on.
00:43 - She's so cool.
00:45 She's so sick.
00:45 I saw this and I was so geeked.
00:48 - Oh, you did see it?
00:48 - Yeah. - Okay.
00:49 - Oh my God, I love her.
00:50 - I love it.
00:51 - Yeah, thank you.
00:52 You've got to Google Alet on her name.
00:54 - Alet, yes.
00:55 - My grandma sent it to me actually.
00:56 - Oh, of course.
00:57 I bet they're so proud of you.
00:58 - My grandma's so honest.
00:59 - We as women have to be able to support each other.
01:02 - Get in, loser.
01:03 - Get in, loser.
01:05 We're going shopping.
01:07 - Did either of you reach out to the OG cast members
01:09 for any advice?
01:10 - One of the most special things for me
01:12 was hearing Tina's memories from filming the 2004 movie
01:17 and asking her about what that was like
01:20 and then her telling us about it
01:22 and how that they didn't know what they were making
01:25 at the time and then sort of after the fact,
01:27 it like blew up. - It became a thing.
01:28 - Right, yeah.
01:29 - Shut up.
01:31 Shut up.
01:35 I didn't say anything.
01:36 - I want to know what your early memories are
01:37 of the OG Mean Girls because I'm sorry,
01:40 but y'all were toddlers in 2004, you know?
01:42 (laughing)
01:43 - Yeah, I was six.
01:44 - You were, okay.
01:45 So you remember me?
01:46 - Like post-toddler, no.
01:47 No, I don't remember when I first saw it.
01:49 - No?
01:49 - We were sort of all talking about it earlier.
01:51 It's like just always been around.
01:52 - It's just always on, isn't it?
01:53 - Yeah, my family, we had a little portable DVD player
01:56 and Mean Girls was one of the DVDs that we owned,
01:59 so I watched it over and over again
02:02 from about 2005 to 2009.
02:05 It was on rotation.
02:06 - There's a photo of me watching it.
02:08 So probably the first time,
02:10 'cause it was when I was four,
02:11 so and it came out in 2004.
02:13 Yeah, there's a picture of me in like a brown cowboy hat
02:18 and it's ridiculous.
02:20 Do you know what picture I'm talking?
02:21 - Yeah, I've seen it.
02:23 - I'll show 'cause it's quite funny
02:25 and I'm in an all like gray outfit
02:27 and I have like a stain on my shirt, huge,
02:30 and like big like sunglasses.
02:33 - That's how you're watching Mean Girls, huh?
02:34 - I guess.
02:36 I guess, I don't know.
02:37 Like Lindsay Lohan is in the background.
02:39 I was just serving.
02:42 - I believe it and I just love that there's photographic
02:44 evidence like of this moment.
02:45 - I know, it's very sus.
02:45 - I love it, it's awesome.
02:47 - Do you like gum?
02:50 - Sure.
02:51 - Oh no, I don't have any.
02:52 I was just.
02:53 - You're a mess.
02:54 - And Gary, how does it feel to be the ones
02:56 carrying on the legacy in this new form of the movie?
02:59 - I mean, yeah, there's a lot of pressure
03:01 because there are so many fans of the 2004 movie
03:05 and the musical and I am one of them.
03:08 So you know, you don't wanna let the fans down,
03:10 you also don't wanna let yourself down.
03:12 So it feels very important
03:13 and it feels like a big responsibility,
03:15 but it was something that I really wanted to do.
03:18 I mean, who says no to an opportunity like this,
03:21 to work with Tina Fey, to work with the music team,
03:25 to work with the directors.
03:26 So it was sort of, the fear didn't overcome me enough
03:31 to say no.
03:32 - It's one of those things that I feel like
03:33 you have to say yes, right?
03:34 Like this is "Mean Girls", right?
03:35 - Absolutely, yeah.
03:36 - And you know, obviously us fans,
03:39 we don't know what to expect, right?
03:41 'Cause it's not exactly a 2004 reboot,
03:43 it's not exactly a film version of the Broadway musical.
03:46 So Chris, how are you describing "Mean Girls"?
03:49 - It's sort of all of it, you know?
03:51 It's obviously story-wise similar,
03:56 like you sort of know where it's gonna go.
03:59 It's not--
04:00 - Surprise.
04:01 - Yeah, yeah, and you wouldn't, I don't think,
04:02 want it to be.
04:03 - No.
04:05 - But the path it takes is so different
04:09 and it takes influence from all these places
04:11 and it pays homage in the way it should,
04:14 but not like too much.
04:15 And it's still, these characters live in their own universe
04:18 and have their own lives.
04:20 - We're gonna make her pay.

04:29 [laughing]
04:30 - There will be music.
04:31 - 'Cause I know a lot of fans are concerned about that
04:33 when they saw the trailer.
04:34 I mean, what message do you have for those fans
04:36 who are like, "Where are the songs at?
04:37 "They're in it."
04:39 - I mean, they're--
04:39 - It wasn't even mixed yet.
04:40 - We did them.
04:41 - You did them?
04:42 - We did them.
04:43 - You did them?
