00:03 Per ITV, in a statement shared by his lawyers
00:07 during a three-day hearing in London,
00:09 the royal gets candid about his fight for security
00:12 in his native country for himself, Meghan Markle,

00:19 According to the outlet, his statement reads,
00:22 "It was with great sadness to both of us
00:24 "that my wife and I felt forced to step back from this role
00:28 "and leave the country in 2020.
00:30 "The UK is my home.
00:32 "The UK is central to the heritage of my children
00:35 "and a place I want them to feel at home
00:37 "as much as where they live at the moment
00:39 "in the United States.
00:41 "That cannot happen if there is no possibility
00:43 "to keep them safe when they are on UK soil."
00:47 Harry, who did not appear in court, then adds,
00:50 "I can't put my wife in danger like that.
00:52 "And given my experiences in life,
00:55 "I'm reluctant to unnecessarily put myself
00:58 "in harm's way too."
00:59 Back in 2020, Harry and Meghan lost access
01:03 to the police security that usually accompanies members
01:06 of the royal family after stepping back from their duties
01:10 amid their move to America.
01:12 Then in May 2023, the High Court in London ruled
01:16 that Harry's lawyers could not move forward
01:19 with a judicial review that would explore
01:21 whether he could pay for the protective agents himself.
01:24 The decision to take away the publicly funded security
01:27 was made by the Executive Committee
01:29 for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures,
01:32 also known as RAVC.
01:34 According to the BBC, at the time,
01:36 the judge said in his ruling that RAVC was not incorrect
01:39 in their decision and that allowing payment for protection
01:43 would be against public interest.
01:45 This came one week after Harry, Meghan,
01:48 and her mom, Doria Ragland, were involved in a quote,
01:51 "near catastrophic car chase" with quote,
01:54 "highly aggressive paparazzi," per the couple's rep,
01:57 after attending a gala in NYC.

02:03 in a statement, "There were numerous photographers
02:05 "that made their transport challenging.
02:08 "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived
02:10 "at their destination and there were no reported collisions,
