00:03 I think people living in Regent Park
00:14 recognize that they were probably
00:17 residing in one of the biggest assets of real estate
00:21 in the downtown core.
00:23 We got the construction men, and they came over
00:26 and gave us a bunch of bricks.
00:28 And I don't want to cry.
00:31 People are not buying the fact that a mixed community is
00:39 leveling on the playing field.
00:41 What about the whole issue of gentrification?
00:43 Gentrification is when you pour people out
00:47 and you put in rich people.
00:49 That's what gentrification-- when you mix incomes.
00:52 That's about city building and healthy communities.
00:55 But there is a lot of newcomers.
00:56 They don't understand the sense of the community.
00:59 You're telling me that my quality of life
01:01 is going to get better because you're
01:03 putting somebody else to live with me who lives better.
01:06 Then it's hard, right?
01:07 Because you're telling me that I'm below that person.
01:10 The same type of crimes are still happening in community.
01:14 Some people are going to tell you that the crime has
01:16 increased.
01:18 Since the spring of last year, we've
01:20 seen a significant spike in ugly gang violence.
01:27 It's concerning that with such a shortage on housing stock,
01:33 public housing stock, that we've cultivated
01:37 a mixed income community where we're actually
01:39 reducing public housing.
