00:00 Hi, I'm Sophia Lawi, I'm the writer/director of Animalia, my first feature that will be

00:12 premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Animalia is a supernatural drama about the

00:18 LFO world. It's about questioning our certainties and beliefs like mice like us. For me, it

00:24 is more topical than ever, given the environment when we live and what we're experiencing

00:30 today on a planetary scale. More than a supernatural film, it is for me a human odyssey, a note

00:37 to nature and to the question of the place of the human in this complex world. The idea

00:43 of the film came to life when I was coming back to Morocco, the country where I was born,

00:48 after living and travelling abroad for a very long time. I was confronted to the weight

00:53 of the religion, of the dogma, of the society, of the crazy relation that people had with

01:00 money, kind of second God in this modern society. But at the same time, I was completely obsessed

01:07 with aliens and the universe and all those questions. And I make So Why Do the Ghosts

01:12 Die, my last short film that premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, as a trial

01:18 of making a type of film that I wanted to make, using supernatural to question deeply

01:24 my society and my characters. Sundance Film Festival is an amazing place where it will

01:30 build new different voices and I'm super happy and super proud to be part of this selection.
