00:05 and all the exciting things that come with it.
00:08 The Christmas markets are filled with people looking for delicious festive food and last
00:13 minute gift ideas, and Christmas pantomimes and events are taking place across the city
00:18 region.
00:20 Every year families and friends gather to celebrate Christmas and for some it's an
00:24 annual tradition to take part in certain activities or prepare specific food for the big day.
00:31 We asked people in Manchester about their Christmas traditions.
00:35 Well it's always family with us, a lot of family get together every year and we celebrate
00:42 the ones that have gone as well.
00:46 It's just family all get together.
00:49 Apart from the fact that my boys don't live near to me and it's nice when they can come
00:54 at Christmas and help celebrate Christmas and enjoy all the festivities and the food
01:03 and my grandchildren as well.
01:04 So it's a nice time of the year for families.
01:10 Mine is more Mediterranean food because my husband was Cypriot so it's a lot of Mediterranean
01:17 food as well and they sort of go to church very late at night and come home, have a Greek
01:26 soup and then they have the celebration the next day.
01:30 Not generally, generally go to meet my mum for Christmas dinner apart from that really,
01:34 no other traditions.
01:35 We sometimes go out on Christmas Eve, we go to the cinema and have a meal, but just family
01:43 really.
01:44 We've got a little grandson this year as well who's a year old so it'll be a bit different
01:49 this year.
01:50 So yeah, that'll be nice.
01:51 Bowling with the children over Christmas and Christmas markets.
01:57 I'll be working Christmas day, well Christmas night so it'll be a quick dinner, early dinner
02:02 and then off to work.
02:03 Normally we do Christmas markets, we've been abroad in the past but now we're in this country
02:08 due to Covid and all that so we thought we'd come and visit Manchester today.
02:13 Just family together, we take turns with different families and yeah so we just Christmas dinner
02:18 really, traditional.
02:19 Yeah, lots.
02:20 Lots, you want to tell me a little bit about them?
02:23 Yeah, we go to mass on Christmas Eve and we have lamb tagine, so I put it in the oven
02:31 before we go to mass and then it cooks for as long as mass takes, carol service and when
02:37 you get back that's what we have on Christmas Eve.
02:40 My daughter's 22 but I still have to hide all the Christmas presents and pretend that
02:45 Father Christmas has had the sherry, the mince pie and the bits of coloured paper for the
02:52 reindeer, still do all that.
02:54 My house, yeah, all the time, I do all the cooking, lumbered with it as usual.
02:59 No, yeah we do, it's a bit less each year to be honest but yeah we do, we do.
03:04 We used to be a big family but it's getting a bit lower now but it's more low key but
03:08 we still celebrate it.
