The world's biggest otter fan meets an otter called Ozzy in Birmingham

  • last year
This is the adorable moment an otter-obsessed pensioner comes face-to-face with the UK’s only rescued pair in captivity.
Self-confessed ‘otter-holic’ Mary Heathcote has spent more than 60 years helping to protect the animals.
Her 500-piece collection of otter memorabilia, including jewellery, clothes, ornaments and even a 6ft wooden statue, is crammed into her home in Somerset.
The 70-year-old was made guest of honour at Birmingham’s Sea Life Centre where she met Ozzy and Ola – the very first pair of sea otters to be rehomed in the UK.

00:08 Since they arrived three years ago,
00:11 I've wanted to come and see the only UK sea otters.
00:16 And no dreams come true today.
00:20 All otters are my favorite animal.
00:23 And I support them every way which I can.
00:28 Every species of otter is perfect and priceless.
00:34 I never dreamed I would see an otter.
00:37 I saw my first future otter in 1991.
00:42 And I couldn't see it for tears in my eyes,
00:44 looking through binoculars.
00:46 And these two came along, Ozzie and Ola.
00:51 I knew I had to meet them, that it had to be.
00:56 It was in my-- obviously in my stars
00:58 that I would meet them one day.
01:00 Oh, amazing.
