After a gap, a surge in COVID-19 cases in the Indian state of Kerala is causing concerns all over again. After a brief respite, the state is grappling with a sharp increase in active cases. Within just one month, active cases have surged from 33 to 768. The rise in cases come when several southeast Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia are reporting record surge in coronavirus cases. The reports of Kerala detecting the JN.1, a sub-variant of Omicron, have raised fresh concerns about COVID-19. Kerala is known for its robust testing and reporting practices. The Southern state now bears the highest burden of infections in the country, according to health experts.
