Piers Morgan denies hacking after Harry's court victory

  • last year
Piers Morgan has denied any involvement in phone hacking as he accused Prince Harry of being on a mission to destroy the British monarchy. The High Court ruled that Mr Morgan knew about and was involved in phone hacking when he was editor of the Daily Mirror as the Duke of Sussex won damages of £140,600 against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN). Speaking outside his London home, Mr Morgan said "I had then and still have zero knowledge of how that particular story was gathered."

“I also want to reiterate, as I’ve consistently said for many years now, I’ve never hacked a phone or told anyone else to and nobody has provided any actual evidence to prove that I did,” he added.

00:00 To be clear, I had then and still have zero knowledge
00:03 of how that particular story was gathered.
00:06 All his other claims against the Daily Mirror
00:08 under my leadership were rejected.
00:10 With regard to the judge's other references to me
00:13 in his judgment, I also want to reiterate,
00:15 as I've consistently said for many years now,
00:18 I've never hacked a phone or told anybody else
00:20 to hack a phone, and nobody has produced
00:22 any actual evidence to prove that I did.
00:26 He talked today about the appalling behavior of the press.
00:30 But this is a guy who's repeatedly trashed his family
00:32 in public for hundreds of millions of dollars,
00:34 even as two of its most senior and respected members
00:37 were dying, his grandparents.
00:40 It's hard to imagine, frankly,
00:42 more appalling behavior than that.
00:45 As for him saying this is a good day for truth,
00:47 the Duke has been repeatedly exposed in recent years
00:50 as someone who wouldn't know the truth
00:52 if it slapped him around his California-tanned face.
00:55 He demands accountability for the press,
00:58 but refuses to accept any for himself
01:00 for smearing the royal family, his own family,
01:03 as a bunch of callous racists
01:05 without producing a shred of proof
01:07 to support those disgraceful claims.
01:10 He also says he's on a mission to reform the media
01:13 when it's become clear his real mission,
01:15 along with his wife, is to destroy the British monarchy.
01:19 And I will continue to do whatever I can to stop them.
