00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are grabbing our tissues and looking at 10 times GTA made
00:10 us cry.
00:11 Whether it's a beloved character losing their life or the GTA 6 trailer just making us weep
00:15 tears of joy, everything is on the table.
00:18 Let's do it.
00:19 Hold my hand.
00:20 Before we continue, we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:25 the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:29 Lance's Betrayal
00:41 In GTA Vice City we were introduced to our tightest compadre Lance Vance.
00:46 Lance Vance was cool, calm and had a deep rooted knowledge of the criminal underbelly
00:49 of Vice City, a quality and a partner that we desperately needed.
00:54 Experiencing the sting of betrayal from someone you considered a trusted companion could be
00:57 a deeply painful and disillusioning ordeal, and our character Tommy Vercetti and therefore
01:02 us as the player undergo a similar heart wrenching revelation as Lance takes an unexpected turn
01:07 by aligning himself with Don "Sonny" Farelli.
01:10 In a pivotal moment as Tommy diligently readies counterfeit funds, Lance seizes the opportunity
01:15 to abscond with the authentic currency crafted by Tommy.
01:19 The ensuing confrontation culminates in Lance meeting his demise amidst a fiery shootout.
01:24 RIP Lance you beautiful piece of shit.
01:37 The Tragedy of Johnny Klebitz
01:39 The GTA series is renowned for its portrayal of tragic destinies befalling main characters
01:44 and a substantial example unfolds in the story of Johnny Klebitz.
01:48 Once a beloved protagonist in Grand Theft Auto 4's expansion, his narrative takes a
01:52 somber turn as the gang he once led dwindles to a mere handful of members following a clash
01:57 with a rival crime family.
01:59 Johnny resurfaces as a minor character in Grand Theft Auto 5 where he becomes entangled
02:03 in a feud with Trevor, one of the protagonists of GTA 5, culminating in a fatal confrontation
02:08 that sees Johnny meeting a tragic end with his head brutally stomped by Trevor.
02:13 This moment is incredibly upsetting for players who loved Johnny, but also a terrifying set
02:17 up for Trevor.
02:22 Trevor Phillips is a deeply disturbed man, we see this many times throughout the game.
02:26 His frantic nature combined with his deep well of emotion makes him a tragic and sad
02:30 figure to watch develop across the game.
02:33 We get hints at his childhood, but when we finally meet his mother, we finally meet his
02:37 match.
02:38 In this rare encounter Trevor experiences an unusual fear simply being near her, prompting
02:43 him to uncharacteristically comply with her orders.
02:46 The emotional climax unfolds upon his return with the truck, only to discover his mother
02:51 absent from his RV.
02:52 In a moment of vulnerability, Trevor breaks down, crying out and desperately calling for
02:57 his mother, yet receiving no response.
02:59 Speculations arise suggesting that Trevor might have been hallucinating his mother,
03:03 with the haunting image emerging as a manifestation of his guilt stemming from previous neglect.
03:11 Yeesh.
03:16 The End of the Lost and Damned
03:25 The DLC for GTA 4 titled The Lost and Damned delves into the unforgiving existence of the
03:29 motorcycle gang known as the Lost Motorcycle Club in Liberty City.
03:34 Spearheaded by the ruthless and arrogant Billy Gray, the main character in this narrative
03:38 is Johnny Klebitz, a key player in the games conflict against a rival faction in the city.
03:43 Due to a pivotal event, Johnny finds himself compelled to take the lives of several members
03:48 of the Lost, including Jim Fitzgerald, someone he deeply respected.
03:52 The conclusion of the DLC reveals the tragic demise of Jim, serving as a poignant and impactful
03:57 conclusion to the storyline, and giving us a deeper look at Johnny and the pain he feels
04:02 due to his own existence.
04:05 Abandoned Michael
04:06 Each of the three protagonists in the game have their own storyline of highs and lows,
04:18 brutal ups and crashing downs, however a significant portion of the gameplay in GTA 5 centres around
04:24 Michael DeSantis journey, as arguably the focal protagonist.
04:28 He endeavours to shift from a life of crime to that of a family man, unfortunately this
04:33 endeavour takes a disastrous turn when echoes from his past resurface, reigniting the criminal
04:39 instincts within him, much to the dismay of his family.
04:43 After his son Jimmy resorts to drugging him and upon returning home in a disoriented state,
04:47 Michael discovers a note left by his wife.
04:50 As he reads it aloud, frustration builds, leading him to crumple the note and curse
04:53 himself for causing the implosion of his family, a family who up until this point we felt he
04:58 could take or leave.
05:00 Left abandoned and isolated, Michael aimlessly wanders through his home, devoid of motivation.
05:06 This was an impactful moment for the player, as we saw another side of Michael we didn't
05:09 expect.
05:10 All we could do was send good vibes to him via the controller.
05:18 Vic Finds Louise
05:43 Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories was the better of the stories games and gave us a
05:47 closer look at some of the characters we'd met in the original journey in GTA Vice City.
05:52 At the beginning of the game, our protagonist Victor Vance connects with a character named
05:55 Louise Cassidy Williams, who evolves into a romantic interest.
05:59 GTA has one rule for its characters though, don't fall in love, it never ends well.
06:05 Louise falls victim to abduction by Victor's adversaries and she endures physical abuse
06:10 before ultimately being shot to death.
06:12 In her final moments she speaks with Victor expressing her regret that they could not
06:16 share a future together.
06:32 Trevor Phillips
06:49 GTA 5 introduced to us one of the worst human beings we've ever met in a GTA game, Trevor
06:54 Phillips.
06:56 Even though his behaviour was reprehensible and his morals were basically non-existent,
06:59 we somehow still came to love him as the unpredictable wild card he turned out to be.
07:04 At the end of GTA 5, players are left with three ending options, one of which is to kill
07:09 Trevor.
07:10 When Franklin confronts Trevor in a secluded spot, Trevor attempts to escape upon realising
07:15 the threat that Franklin poses.
07:17 Unexpectedly, Michael intervenes, deliberately crashing his own vehicle into Trevor's truck.
07:21 The collision results in a gasoline spill soaking Trevor in fuel.
07:26 Frustrated and visibly angered by the betrayal from his best friend and newfound ally, Trevor
07:30 curses and screams in the face of this unexpected turn of events.
07:34 His begging for them to kill him as he burns alive is something straight out of a Saw film
07:38 and we hated to see it.
07:55 Big Smoke's Betrayal
08:02 Big Smoke is a character that left his mark on GTA players for one of the biggest betrayals
08:06 in GTA history.
08:08 Big Smoke begins the game as a supportive and wise figure from the moment CJ arrives
08:12 back in town.
08:13 He preaches a better community, a rise in love with his fellow gang members and getting
08:17 drugs off the streets he loves so much, all while peddling, betraying and killing in secret
08:23 on the side.
08:24 Not only that, but he joins up with Officer Tenpenny to get it done.
08:27 The moment we learn that Big Smoke is no longer on our side is during the infamous green saber
08:32 reveal which indicates that both he and Ryder had a part to play in CJ's mum's death.
08:37 Big Smoke is a deeply complicated character and a huge part of the game's DNA.
08:42 His betrayal sets the game up as one that is going to have many brutal heart-wrenching
08:46 moments.
08:48 Franklin Betrays Michael
08:57 Killing Trevor is hard, we do grow to love him and seeing him get taken out in such a
09:00 brutal way is heartbreaking, but betraying and killing Michael is even worse.
09:06 Many of the greatest things that have happened to Franklin are a direct result of Michael
09:09 taking him under his wing, and seeing the two become enemies in these final moments
09:13 is too much for our little hearts.
09:15 As one of the game's saddest cutscenes, players find themselves gripping Michael's arm as
09:20 he hangs precariously from the top of a water tower.
09:23 Faced with a pivotal choice between letting him fall or pulling him to safety, the latter
09:27 option unfolds into a heartbreaking sequence.
09:30 Unable to forgive Franklin for attempting to take his life, Michael retaliates by striking
09:34 his head against Franklin's, ultimately causing his ending to be the same as he falls backwards
09:39 and to his death.
09:41 Michael was the heartbeat of this story, and seeing him just suddenly being no more is
09:45 hard to come to terms with.
09:48 Roman's Wedding
09:49 In a wild turn of events, the player is given two options at the end of GTA 4 of whether
09:59 to take a deal from antagonist Raskolov or reject it.
10:02 Either choice made affects this pivotal moment in Nico's story in equally upsetting ways.
10:07 It truly doesn't matter which way you go, you're going to get your heart broken.
10:11 Opting for the deal, Nico loses Kate's respect, leading to her absence at Roman's Wedding.
10:16 Subsequently, Raskolov dispatches an assassin to kill Nico, resulting in Roman's tragic
10:21 demise.
10:22 Alternatively, choosing revenge sees Kate attending the wedding only to become the target
10:26 of mob boss Jimmy Pegorino, who supported the deal.
10:30 Both outcomes unfold as ironic tragedies.
10:33 Adhering to Roman's wishes leads to his death and honouring Kate's results in her demise.
10:38 Losing Roman is deeply upsetting for the player, and losing Kate is deeply upsetting for Nico.
10:43 Both endings break our main character and in the process, our hearts.
