00:18 I had just discovered that ecoplex, that when you play, a tape goes round, but once it goes
00:27 around after a certain amount of time, you can add another guitar to it, and then you
00:33 can add another guitar to it, and wow, that was amazing.
00:37 [music]
00:53 I just made up a chord progression, and then I played...
01:04 The loop goes round, harmony, and so on, and I went like, wow, this is great, you know,
01:12 it sounded so good.
01:13 [music]
01:28 I recorded it on this cheap tape recorder I had, and on the way to Christmas with Phil
01:34 and the others, I remember at the Undercon station on the escalator, I switched it on,
01:42 and I said, "Hey, listen to this.
01:44 Wow, that sounds great.
01:48 Hey, Michael, can we meet somewhere?
01:50 Can we meet?"
01:51 And so Phil came over to my place.
01:54 I just moved in there, basically, and he came into my place, and I remember I had a table
02:01 here, Phil's sitting over there, I'm sitting over here, so he wanted me to play the chords
02:07 without the guitar so that he had something to figure out the melody for his vocals and
02:13 stuff like that, and so that's what I did, and then he took it home, and then basically,
02:19 we have done that with quite a few songs in general.
02:22 That was kind of our...
02:24 I would come...
02:25 "Try Me" was done exactly the same way.
02:27 I wrote an instrumental, and it ended up so good that Phil wanted to take out the instrumental
02:35 and just let him hear the chords and see what he can come up with, and he would come up
02:39 with something really good, and then we just started him singing over the same chords until
02:44 we got...
02:45 After two verses and choruses, we inserted the instrumental part of the song.
02:52 "Living, I'm on the run, so far away from you, you and you.
03:06 Living, I'm on the run, so far away from you.
03:16 Oh yeah, baby."
03:20 You know, to be honest, "Dr. Doctor," I'm not really sure how well people took that
03:28 song in the beginning, and I didn't focus on it either.
03:32 I mean, you know, we were playing gigs.
03:35 I wasn't there for "Dr. Doctor."
03:36 I was there because I enjoyed playing and playing lead guitar and so on, and you know.
03:45 It took about ten years before "Dr. Doctor" did anything, really, because I think once
03:51 it made it on the live album, I think that's when it took off.
03:54 "Living, I'm on the run, so far away from you, yeah."
04:02 "Living, I'm on the run, so far away from you, yeah."
04:30 "Yeah."
04:35 "Yeah."
04:36 "Yeah."
04:37 "Yeah."
04:41 "Yeah."
04:42 "Yeah."
04:43 "Yeah."
04:44 "Yeah."
04:45 "Yeah."
04:46 "Yeah."
04:47 "Yeah."
04:48 "Yeah."
04:49 "Yeah."
04:50 "Yeah."
04:51 "Yeah."
04:52 "Yeah."
04:52 "Yeah."
