00:00:00 Christmas is supposed to be a time when families come together and celebrate the
00:00:04 birth of Jesus Christ. But as we know through time Christmas has evolved to
00:00:09 be something totally different. Most people spend their time spending all of
00:00:14 their money to buy each other gifts. Gifts that for many are delivered in the
00:00:18 mail but lack the true meaning of Christmas. In my family things are no
00:00:24 different. I'm Lauren, the baby of the Ford family. I'm in my second year at the
00:00:29 prestigious Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia. I thought this Christmas would
00:00:33 be just like all the others. Me, my mama, and Christmas music. See my family has
00:00:39 never been big on Christmas since my father died five years ago. My mom has
00:00:44 not even put up one decoration. All we do is listen to music on Christmas Eve
00:00:50 alone. Although things are changing this year. Hi. What's cooking, baby?
00:01:00 Whatever you get in that kitchen and make. I guess I better get to it then. I guess you had better.
00:01:06 Make it happen, Captain. Hey. My mother found her a new man and she is in love. Out of all
00:01:13 the men in Atlanta, mama fell in love with Mr. Shepherd. The problem is my
00:01:19 family have been enemies with the Shepherds forever. All I know is that my
00:01:26 four brothers and sisters can't stand them and Mr. Shepherd's kids can't stand
00:01:31 us. Well, all except for Reed. Mm-mm-mm. Look at my future baby mama. That must be one of your new jokes, right? Funny.
00:01:40 Reed and I are both the babies of the family and we get along just fine.
00:01:44 Mama said we were too young when everything happened. Now my mom is one of
00:01:48 the most loving women I know, but even she didn't like the Shepherds. At least
00:01:52 until a few months ago. See, Mr. Shepherd's wife died a year ago and Mr.
00:01:57 Shepherd can't cook one bit. Oh, who are you talking to?
00:02:05 You see, this whole love affair started with Reed. Got tired of starving and started cooking at the firehouse for him.
00:02:16 My mom feeling sorry for him started selling plates over. Now everybody knows
00:02:21 the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Anyway, to make long story short,
00:02:28 Mr. Shepherd shows up with Reed so he could at least say thank you. After one
00:02:34 dinner together, the Ford-Shepherd feud was over.
00:02:39 So it's been a few months now and Mama has convinced Mr. Shepherd they should get the families together for the holidays.
00:02:55 See, Mr. Shepherd fell in love with Mama and asked her to marry him. So she said
00:03:00 only if they can get the families together and be cordial. Reed doesn't
00:03:04 think it's possible. See, when I say that our families hated one another, I mean it.
00:03:09 You would have thought that with all the fighting that somebody would have up and
00:03:12 moved, but Mr. Shepherd and Daddy were a lot alike. Both way too stubborn to give in.
00:03:18 I think differently. Like, I know that my family is a loving family and they miss
00:03:23 our Ford Christmases just as much as I do. All we got to do is get everybody here.

00:04:13 Laughing all the way, bells have popped out ring, making spirits bright
00:04:20 But fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight
00:04:25 Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
00:04:30 Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh
00:04:35 Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

00:05:05 Dashing through the snow, in a one horse open sleigh
00:05:10 Over the fields we go, laughing all the way
00:05:15 Bells have popped out ring, making spirits bright
00:05:20 But fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight
00:05:25 Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
00:05:30 You know you real bold, right? Stealing a dead man woman?
00:05:33 Now you know Mr. Ford turning over in this grave right now
00:05:36 What do you think Mrs. Shepherd is doing?
00:05:38 I know my Sammy, all he ever cared about was my happiness
00:05:41 As long as I'm happy, he has a smile on his face
00:05:45 And Richard was the same way
00:05:47 Y'all can believe that if y'all want to
00:05:52 But I'm looking for a fact that that man ain't smiling
00:05:55 And you down here kissing on this woman
00:05:57 You got another thing coming dad
00:06:00 Matter of fact, you better hope he don't take one of God's lightning bolts
00:06:03 And strike a few down on you
00:06:05 Uh, you move out the way
00:06:10 You're so silly, you surely will be on TV one day
00:06:16 No, no son of mine would pursue some comedic dream
00:06:20 A reed has one semester off and is back to school
00:06:22 To become a doctor like his brother Joey
00:06:26 Speaking of Joey, have you spoken to him about Christmas yet?
00:06:30 Uh, no actually I haven't sweetheart
00:06:33 Shows of Jacob Shepherd, now you promised me
00:06:36 Don't make me slide this ring back to you
00:06:38 Mom, have you talked to your kids about Christmas yet?
00:06:42 Yeah, what about that?
00:06:44 Honey, would you like some corn, baby?
00:06:47 How about we just do this right now?
00:06:49 I think between the four of us, we can get everybody here
00:06:52 Look, you obviously don't know the Shepherds
00:06:54 We've never celebrated Christmas
00:06:56 What? We just look at Christmas like a regular old day
00:06:59 Won't you stop being so negative and just help me call?
00:07:01 I'm just saying
00:07:03 I'm gonna call Antoinette
00:07:05 She loves Christmas and is dying to come home
00:07:09 I'll grab some chicken, Laura
00:07:11 Lauren! Hey baby sis, what's up?
00:07:22 Hey Antoinette, um, things could be a little better
00:07:26 Why, what's going on? Are you pregnant?
00:07:29 No, no, it's not me, it's mom
00:07:32 Is everything okay?
00:07:34 Mom went to the doctor the other day
00:07:37 But she won't say what's wrong
00:07:39 What?
00:07:41 Yeah, she's just been really sad lately
00:07:44 And laying in the bed not really doing anything
00:07:46 All I know is she said that
00:07:49 She wanted all of her kids here for Christmas
00:07:52 Oh my god, does anybody else know?
00:07:54 No, um, everybody was just too busy
00:07:57 Okay, hold on a sec

00:08:21 But I have-
00:08:23 Stacy, is it more important than your mother's health?
00:08:26 No, I guess not
00:08:29 Uh, Travis, look, I know you got your trip planned but reschedule
00:08:34 Oh, and you can bring that bratty girlfriend of yours too
00:08:37 I don't do all this
00:08:39 But I got the woods for Christmas
00:08:41 First of all, how about that tramp?
00:08:44 You're all nasty ass in the background
00:08:46 That's where the boys bring them

00:08:51 Anyway, I'll see you next week
00:08:54 Oh, and don't let your mother down
00:08:57 Thanks, Nett

00:09:11 Okay, I'll talk to you later
00:09:14 Oh, dang, Mr. Ford, you must have been putting in some work
00:09:22 Not too much, it was only in there for five minutes
00:09:25 Yo, Principal Robinson, you need to get with a thug like me
00:09:27 I could go for hours
00:09:30 Boy, give me that phone and y'all move along to class
00:09:33 Yo, Principal Robinson, how are you?
00:09:35 You know where to find me at?
00:09:37 Bruh, she don't want you, she want a real man
00:09:39 Man, you're no real man, Chuck
00:09:41 Yo, man, you're no real man, Chuck
00:09:43 We have to stop doing this
00:09:53 We'll get a divorce and then we can
00:09:55 Lauren Ford, what am I supposed to tell them is wrong with me when they get here?
00:10:00 Oh, no, tell them you're pregnant
00:10:03 Very funny
00:10:07 I don't know what you laughing for, you the baby daddy
00:10:10 Get on the phone and do what Lauren did
00:10:14 You guys are on in five
00:10:21 Thank you
00:10:23 What are you doing for the holidays?
00:10:25 I'm taking Alexa on a cruise
00:10:27 Trying not to be the world's worst father again this year
00:10:30 Come on, you're not that bad
00:10:32 The divorce played a key role in all of that
00:10:35 Look, I know that
00:10:36 I wish someone would tell her that, though
00:10:38 She just sees me as a workaholic
00:10:40 Okay
00:10:42 Excuse me, I gotta take this
00:10:44 Okay
00:10:46 What's good, little bro?
00:10:49 I'm about to go live, so make it quick
00:10:52 Jacob, oh man, I got some terrible news
00:10:56 See, dad needs a new heart and they said he's only got a week to live
00:11:01 What?
00:11:02 Yeah, I know, and all he asks for is that his family come home for Christmas
00:11:06 Spend time with him and be there for him during his final days
00:11:11 You know, before he can join mom in the afterlife
00:11:15 I'll be there
00:11:18 Just let me rearrange a few things here first
00:11:21 Are you okay?
00:11:23 I'll make it through
00:11:29 I'll make it through
00:11:32 I'll just see you next week
00:11:35 Yeah, see you next week
00:11:39 What is it?
00:11:43 There goes the cruise
00:11:45 Alexa is not gonna like spending Christmas in Atlanta one bit
00:11:50 Jacob, we're ready for you
00:11:52 Let's go, everybody, we're about to go live
00:11:54 Let's make it do what it do
00:11:56 Are you nuts?
00:12:02 You asked for it
00:12:04 Just wait till I finish this one
00:12:07 Christina Shepard, how may I help you?
00:12:12 Yeah, hey sis
00:12:14 Reed, I'm getting ready for a big meeting right now, how may I help you?
00:12:17 I already told you I'm not coming home, I have a huge marginal that I'm working on
00:12:22 And I hope no one's pregnant
00:12:24 Well, dad's got something growing in his stomach, but it ain't no baby
00:12:31 Reed, I do not have time for games right now
00:12:34 Christina, dad is over here dying, okay?
00:12:37 He's got a tumor in his stomach the size of a 10 year old baby
00:12:40 Tumor? What?
00:12:43 Why am I just not hearing about this?
00:12:45 He's a doctor, what does he want me to do about it?
00:12:49 All they said was he has one more week to live
00:12:51 And all he wants is for his family to be there for him on his final days for Christmas
00:12:56 So, can you just make sure you're there?
00:12:59 (music)
00:13:07 Hello
00:13:09 I know you guys say you couldn't make it home for Christmas, but dad really needs this during his final days
00:13:14 Final days?
00:13:16 He caught a staph infection in his penis and it's already moved through his whole body
00:13:21 The doctor said he's got one week to live
00:13:24 You remember that big booty nurse, Miss Jones?
00:13:27 Yeah, he finally gave in, poor old fella
00:13:31 Reed, I don't have time for this, okay?
00:13:33 I cannot believe that you guys aren't here with dad during his final days
00:13:39 Okay, y'all don't even know the pain that he's in right now
00:13:43 He screams every five minutes for no reason
00:13:46 (screams)
00:13:48 You know what? Just forget it, alright?
00:13:51 I'll let him know that you don't care about him
00:13:54 And I'll make sure he dies in peace
00:13:57 I just hope this doesn't haunt you for the rest of your life
00:14:01 I'll see you at the funeral
00:14:04 (music)
00:14:08 Oh my god
00:14:11 Oh
00:14:13 (music)
00:14:15 Whoa, whoa, whoa, calm down old fella
00:14:17 I had to make it believable
00:14:19 It's just a joke
00:14:21 Wait, Joseph, Joseph, sit down
00:14:23 Leave that boy alone
00:14:25 Come on, let me kiss him for you
00:14:27 Come on
00:14:29 Oh, feel better
00:14:31 Man, look at him, see?
00:14:33 He like that
00:14:35 Now you might even get lucky tonight
00:14:37 Hmm? A little sympathy loving?
00:14:40 Reed
00:14:41 What? What you think they do when you're here?
00:14:43 Besides, this ain't Bethlehem
00:14:46 And she ain't no Virgin Mary
00:14:49 Ain't got nothing else to do
00:14:51 Besides lay up underneath each other all day
00:14:53 That is none of your business
00:14:54 What me and Mrs. Shepard have going on
00:14:56 Look, I don't want to know y'all business, seriously
00:14:59 Y'all can keep that to y'all self
00:15:01 You need to just watch out for them lightning bolts
00:15:04 Excuse me, but just once
00:15:07 Don't be scared
00:15:09 (music)
00:15:17 I can't, nope, nope
00:15:19 Your father is sick, you need to be there
00:15:22 I'm not trying to eat bread out of his mouth
00:15:24 You know how he is
00:15:26 Hmm, Merry Christmas
00:15:30 What is that?
00:15:34 Go spend some time with your family
00:15:37 (barking)
00:15:39 I can't take that
00:15:41 No, can't do it
00:15:43 Well, you don't have much of a choice
00:15:45 You haven't been home since your mom passed away
00:15:48 That don't make no sense
00:15:50 Your father needs you
00:15:52 Go home
00:15:55 Thanks, Chris
00:15:57 Yeah, yeah
00:15:59 My father hates me
00:16:13 I'm the last person he'd want to see
00:16:16 Yes, I'm going home for Christmas
00:16:20 Wait, what?
00:16:22 Now, Christina, you know there's a lot of work to do
00:16:24 Yeah, I know, John, but I have to work from Atlanta
00:16:26 I know it's not ideal, but my father's dying
00:16:30 As soon as he dies, I'll be back
00:16:32 Look, I'll tell you what, I'll just go ahead
00:16:34 No, I don't need you to do that
00:16:36 I got this, okay?
00:16:37 Look, I hear what you're saying
00:16:39 I'm the one that got us this deal
00:16:40 I'm gonna be the one to close it
00:16:42 Alright, Christina
00:16:44 Then you're gonna make me partner
00:16:46 Well, hey now, all that feistiness is kind of making me hot
00:16:49 John, go have sex with your wife
00:16:51 Alicia, I'm in the library
00:17:03 Travis
00:17:06 Hang up
00:17:09 So, alright
00:17:11 So, you ready for the trip?
00:17:16 Yeah, about that, um
00:17:18 You're just gonna have to wait and do it on New Year's
00:17:24 My mom's sick, I gotta go home
00:17:26 Okay, what am I supposed to do?
00:17:28 You're gonna go with me

00:18:18 You were beautiful
00:18:23 Thank you, honey
00:18:24 Okay, but I've gotta book these tickets
00:18:25 Did you find out when your last performance was?
00:18:27 About that
00:18:29 I probably won't be able to make it home with you this Christmas
00:18:32 What?
00:18:33 Well, why not?
00:18:35 My sister called, something about my mom
00:18:38 I don't know
00:18:39 All I know is that we've been summoned home
00:18:41 Well, I mean, can it wait?
00:18:44 I mean, my family made plans
00:18:46 I know, but it's my mom
00:18:49 And if I don't go, then my sister, Nett, is gonna show up at your front door in Michigan
00:18:54 I mean, is it that serious?
00:18:56 I guess
00:19:01 Okay
00:19:03 I'll go with you then
00:19:06 You don't have to do that, honey
00:19:10 Yeah, I do
00:19:12 I mean, it's Christmas, I'm not gonna spend Christmas without you
00:19:15 I know, but I don't think it'd be a good idea
00:19:19 You mean you may not have told them yet
00:19:24 Stacy
00:19:27 Yeah
00:19:28 It's been two years
00:19:30 I know
00:19:31 So what's the big deal?

00:19:35 No, they are not racist
00:19:37 Okay, well then if you love me, then you will bring me home to meet your family
00:19:41 Doug, I do love you
00:19:43 Then when are we leaving?
00:19:46 They'll eat it when you do that
00:19:50 But you love it
00:19:52 Fine, Wednesday
00:19:55 Wednesday sounds great
00:19:56 Now, speaking of great, some food would be great for me
00:19:58 You're starving, did you just perform swan lake? I don't think so
00:20:02 Have you seen me? Mine's pretty good
00:20:04 I've seen you, I don't think it is
00:20:06 Look, I hear what you're saying, but my client's not gonna settle
00:20:09 Especially for that amount
00:20:12 Look, I gotta go
00:20:15 Something very important just walked into my office
00:20:18 Alright, I'll talk to you later
00:20:20 Hey, baby
00:20:22 Brought you some lunch
00:20:24 Right on time
00:20:26 Look at this dress, I think I've seen this one
00:20:29 Oh, you've seen it?
00:20:31 Mm-hmm
00:20:32 This looks so good
00:20:34 Mm-hmm
00:20:36 Mm-hmm
00:20:37 Uh-oh
00:20:38 What?
00:20:39 What do you mean what?
00:20:40 You know you only kiss me like that when you want something
00:20:42 I can't bring my man something to eat
00:20:45 Okay, what's going on, Antoinette?
00:20:48 Okay
00:20:51 Well, um, I know that we said that we would stay here for the holidays
00:20:56 Mm-hmm
00:20:58 But I need to go home
00:21:00 And I was thinking that maybe we could stay at my mother's
00:21:03 Your mother's?
00:21:04 Yeah
00:21:05 So you two talked?
00:21:06 No
00:21:08 Then I'm confused
00:21:10 Why would you want to go to your mother's and argue there?
00:21:12 She's sick, Robert
00:21:14 Yeah
00:21:17 I don't know how bad
00:21:19 But pretty bad based on what my sister said
00:21:22 I'm sorry to hear that, baby
00:21:25 You know I can't leave until Christmas Day, though
00:21:28 You can't take off just one day?
00:21:30 Baby, you know I can
00:21:33 Wow
00:21:34 Antoinette, you know what's on my plate right now
00:21:36 Mm-hmm, you sound a lot like my dad
00:21:39 You can't do this just one time for me
00:21:41 Look, I can't afford to lose this deal
00:21:43 Robert, we are fine
00:21:45 We're more than fine
00:21:47 We don't have any reason to be money hungry
00:21:49 God has given us plenty
00:21:51 Let me tell you something
00:21:52 You can never have enough money
00:21:54 Okay, that's how we pay for our lifestyle
00:21:56 How we take care of our children
00:21:58 Okay, that's why you and I are happy the way we are
00:22:01 You think I'm happy?
00:22:03 You think I'm happy with you working around the clock
00:22:06 Here all day, all night
00:22:08 While I'm the one watching the kids grow, raising the kids
00:22:11 Listen, didn't we make an agreement
00:22:13 That we would sacrifice what's important?
00:22:14 No
00:22:15 I am making sacrifices
00:22:17 I have sacrificed everything to be this ideal wife you want me to be
00:22:21 But no, Robert, I am not happy
00:22:25 Baby, you're married to a millionaire
00:22:29 Okay, now who wouldn't be happy about that?
00:22:31 Now who are you talking to?
00:22:32 What has money ever defined happiness for me?
00:22:36 But you know what, you want an out
00:22:38 So I'm going to give it to you
00:22:39 You stay
00:22:40 You be Scrooge
00:22:42 I'm sure your kids can figure out how to enjoy the holidays without their father
00:22:44 It is one stupid day
00:22:46 One stupid day to you!
00:22:48 It's Christmas to everybody else around the world
00:22:51 Only the biggest family holiday of the year
00:22:55 But hey, you've got money
00:23:00 So why don't you just rent yourself a family while we're gone?
00:23:04 (music)
00:23:08 For Sammy, finally seeing his kids again was all that he needed for Christmas
00:23:27 Unfortunately, he had to stand face to face with the man that filled his shoes on the field
00:23:32 and as a father in his boys' lives
00:23:35 Finally get to meet the man that's wearing my jersey
00:23:44 Good to meet you too
00:23:46 I enjoyed watching you play
00:23:48 Appreciate it
00:23:49 There you go
00:23:50 I saw you on the map
00:23:52 You want to come?
00:23:54 Yeah
00:23:55 Thank you
00:23:57 You're welcome
00:23:58 I'll have him back New Year's Eve
00:24:00 Alright
00:24:02 Okay, so my question is what's going to be for dinner?
00:24:05 Knowing my mother, everything
00:24:08 Perfect
00:24:09 Just...
00:24:10 Hey, you think they need some help?
00:24:13 Mm-hmm
00:24:14 That's what I'm saying, I shouldn't have to tell you like everything
00:24:17 You just have to be a good Samaritan, don't you?
00:24:19 Yeah, that's why you love me, right?
00:24:21 That's exactly right
00:24:23 Uh-huh, one of the reasons
00:24:25 (music)
00:24:28 What did I ask you to do?
00:24:30 What did I ask you to do? Tell me what I asked you to do
00:24:32 What did you ask me to do?
00:24:33 Get the boys a haircut, go pick up my laundry
00:24:36 and get the fucking wall changed and you can't even do that
00:24:38 It's your car, I don't want to do that
00:24:39 Yeah, whatever, okay
00:24:40 Okay, oh, it's my car since it don't fucking work
00:24:42 You guys need some help
00:24:43 Um, I don't even know what's wrong
00:24:46 Well, you want me to take a look at it?
00:24:48 Can you?
00:24:49 Yeah
00:24:50 Damn, baby
00:24:52 Shh
00:24:53 Get out
00:24:54 Man, shut up
00:24:55 Damn
00:24:56 I was running your mouth
00:24:57 (sigh)
00:24:58 So, what's going on?
00:24:59 I don't know what's wrong with this crap, man
00:25:01 Alright, so was it making noise or what?
00:25:03 It was like doing like a little noise
00:25:05 It shook a little bit
00:25:06 We pulled over, it cut off
00:25:08 Now it won't cut back on
00:25:09 Okay, so you guys cut it off, and now it just won't cut back
00:25:12 Yeah, he fucked it up
00:25:13 Man, shut up
00:25:14 I keep telling you about running your mouth
00:25:16 Okay, whatever
00:25:17 Do you guys have, uh...
00:25:18 Damn
00:25:20 Dali, we're not helping these people
00:25:22 Girl
00:25:23 We don't help shepherds
00:25:26 She's a shepherd?
00:25:27 Yeah
00:25:28 Oh, yeah, I am
00:25:29 Now, I see little Miss Stacy Ford here has jungle fever
00:25:32 Again
00:25:33 Doug, let's go before I have to scrape this hoe off the pavement
00:25:37 Oh, bitch, please try me
00:25:38 Bitch
00:25:39 'Cause, yeah, bitch
00:25:40 I got you, bitch
00:25:41 Yeah, 'cause today's a good day
00:25:42 Doug, let's go
00:25:43 Yeah, you know what?
00:25:44 My Ford, bitch
00:25:45 She sick as hell
00:25:46 Stupid bitch
00:25:47 Yeah, ignorant bitch
00:25:48 Tramp, bitch
00:25:49 What?
00:25:50 Bitch
00:25:51 Bitch with a white man
00:25:52 Bitch
00:25:53 Stacy
00:25:54 I got you, bitch
00:25:55 Yeah, you look...
00:25:56 Did this bitch really just throw a shoe at me?
00:26:01 Are you okay?
00:26:09 I'm fine
00:26:11 Look, I've just...
00:26:15 I've never seen you act like that before
00:26:17 I mean, so...
00:26:18 Aggressive
00:26:19 I'm black, Doug
00:26:21 There's a little bit of aggression in all of us
00:26:23 I'm just a little bit more aggressive
00:26:25 Daddy, I don't want you to be sick
00:26:30 Oh, thank you, baby
00:26:31 Granddad, I mean, you're a doctor
00:26:34 Why can't you just give yourself a shot?
00:26:36 I wish it was that simple
00:26:39 Dad, how long have you had this issue?
00:26:42 And why'd you let it get so bad?
00:26:44 Exactly
00:26:45 How does a doctor let a tumor grow so big?
00:26:47 Wait, tumor?
00:26:48 I thought it was a heart issue
00:26:49 We told us it was a staph infection from messing with Nurse Jones
00:26:52 Nurse Jones?
00:26:53 Nurse Jones
00:26:54 Nurse Jones
00:26:55 He made me do it
00:27:01 I'm missing my cruise for this line, old man
00:27:04 Couldn't you play sick another holiday?
00:27:06 Alexa, watch your mouth
00:27:08 Okay, that's enough
00:27:09 Now, I'm not sick
00:27:12 But, you know
00:27:13 Seems to be the best way to get you guys home for Christmas
00:27:16 Really, Dad?
00:27:17 You don't even like Christmas
00:27:18 Exactly
00:27:19 I do not like Christmas
00:27:20 It's Christmas
00:27:21 It's Christmas
00:27:22 Oh
00:27:23 And besides, I have something important to share with you
00:27:26 Yeah, what's up, pops?
00:27:28 Well, let's just wait till dinner
00:27:30 Promise you'll keep an open mind
00:27:33 Open minded?
00:27:35 Yeah
00:27:36 Dad, are you gay?
00:27:38 Gay?
00:27:40 Yeah, Daddy
00:27:41 We'll accept you no matter what
00:27:43 Speak for yourself
00:27:45 Well, I'm not accepting you
00:27:47 I'm supposed to be in Bora Bora right now
00:27:49 And I'm here
00:27:50 There better be gifts involved
00:27:51 Oh, oh, oh, oh, okay, okay, okay, okay
00:27:53 Stop
00:27:54 That's enough, all of you
00:27:55 Get out
00:27:56 Get out now
00:27:57 Go get dressed, or you're gonna be late
00:27:58 Come on
00:27:59 And Alexa
00:28:00 You say one more word
00:28:02 And Granddaddy's gonna take out his horse belt
00:28:04 And I'm gonna whip your tail
00:28:07 'Cause he will do it
00:28:11 Come in here and talk about I'm gay
00:28:14 Mama, how long have you been going through all this?
00:28:18 Oh, you know, I just kind of let myself go
00:28:21 You know, with Lauren away at school
00:28:23 I just kind of felt I didn't have that much to live for anymore, you know
00:28:27 Mama, why are you talking like that?
00:28:29 Yeah, Mama, what's really wrong?
00:28:31 Oh, well, it's a long conversation that we must have
00:28:36 And I'd like to do it over dinner
00:28:38 What you cooking, Grandma?
00:28:40 Boy, your Grandma not cooking anything
00:28:42 She's sick
00:28:43 Wait, then who's cooking?
00:28:45 'Cause I hope none of y'all
00:28:47 What you trying to say? Excuse you?
00:28:49 I'm just saying
00:28:50 He's trying to say that you cannot cook, Mama
00:28:52 Well, Lauren and I have made reservations
00:28:56 So we're going out for dinner
00:28:58 I'm just so glad you're all home
00:29:01 Now promise me one thing
00:29:03 What's that, Jeloma?
00:29:06 Promise me that you will all enjoy this Christmas
00:29:10 Enjoy it like we did when your father was here
00:29:15 It's already done, Mama
00:29:17 Y'all ready to eat?
00:29:22 Yes
00:29:24 Stacy, baby, hold up a minute
00:29:31 Am I in trouble?
00:29:34 Well, no
00:29:36 So, Stacy, tell me something, honey
00:29:39 What's that?
00:29:40 Who's that white boy you bring up in my house?
00:29:44 That's Doug
00:29:46 He's the, um...
00:29:49 He's the boyfriend that I was telling you about
00:29:54 Ah
00:29:56 Well, you know, Stacy, I've never known you to, uh...
00:30:00 I've never seen you with, uh...
00:30:02 someone who's...
00:30:04 White?
00:30:05 Yeah
00:30:07 But he sure is fine
00:30:09 You better hold on to that
00:30:11 He's gonna make me some beautiful grandbabies
00:30:13 Oh
00:30:15 I am so glad you approve, Mama
00:30:21 Honey, I just want you to be happy
00:30:24 And he makes me happy
00:30:26 Oh, good
00:30:27 Thank you, Mama
00:30:29 Now go get dressed
00:30:31 Oh, yes, I'm hungry
00:30:33 Love you, Mama
00:30:35 Welcome home, honey
00:30:37 It's so good to be home, Mama
00:30:40 [knocking]
00:30:42 Joy arrived just in time for dinner
00:30:44 And he even brought a friend from medical school
00:30:47 Grandpa, why are we sitting outside in the cold?
00:30:50 And who are we waiting for?
00:30:51 Yeah, we're waiting for some special guests
00:30:53 Who's coming?
00:30:54 Just hold on, you'll see, okay?
00:30:56 Wait, wait, wait
00:30:58 What's this?
00:30:59 Wait a minute, wait
00:31:01 Hmm
00:31:04 Is this a joke?
00:31:08 It must be
00:31:09 Because I'm not eating dinner with these monkeys
00:31:11 Who you calling a monkey?
00:31:12 I got your monkey right here
00:31:13 Jacob
00:31:15 Papa, he calling me a monkey?
00:31:17 Jacob
00:31:19 Trained him good
00:31:24 He deserves a Scooby Snack
00:31:25 Scooby-Dooby-Doo
00:31:27 Samuel, act like you have some home training
00:31:30 He can't do that
00:31:31 That's not funny
00:31:32 Because he doesn't have any
00:31:33 Listen, let's all just go inside, okay?
00:31:35 We're not eating with them
00:31:37 Ain't no way in hell
00:31:39 Samuel!
00:31:40 Papa, what is this about?
00:31:42 I thought we were supposed to be celebrating Christmas
00:31:44 Not spending time with the less fortunate
00:31:47 The only one less fortunate is your lonely ass
00:31:50 Answer that chill
00:31:51 What up, Travis?
00:31:52 Did you know each other?
00:31:53 Oh, yes, sir
00:31:54 We was line bros at Morehouse
00:31:56 I thought your face looked familiar
00:31:58 It's good to see you
00:31:59 Yeah, but what you doing here with?
00:32:01 Damn, you're not a shepherd
00:32:03 We're studying for our boards
00:32:05 You know, some of us do plan to succeed in life
00:32:07 Look, enough
00:32:09 Why are we here?
00:32:10 Well, I'm sure you're all wondering why we brought you here tonight
00:32:13 Now, we know that the shepherds and the fords haven't always been...
00:32:17 They've been around too long
00:32:18 But, since they've all been changed
00:32:20 Fords are the last thing on my mind
00:32:22 I mean, we all know that oil and water just don't mix
00:32:26 Where is all this coming from?
00:32:28 And why now?
00:32:30 Well, Mr. Shepherd and I have become friends
00:32:33 Yes
00:32:34 Dang, Daddy, are you that lonely?
00:32:36 No, I'm not lonely
00:32:38 Like Mary said, we've become friends
00:32:40 Close friends
00:32:42 Real close friends
00:32:44 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
00:32:46 Wait a minute
00:32:47 Are you two trying to say that you're an item?
00:32:50 Well, Mr. Shepherd and I have been seeing each other intimately
00:32:55 And we've fallen in love with each other
00:32:57 Aw, what?
00:32:58 And?
00:32:59 And?
00:33:00 And?
00:33:01 Oh, God, tell her
00:33:04 We're engaged to be married
00:33:05 Aw!
00:33:06 Tell her what you want to say!
00:33:08 Now, now, now, now, now
00:33:10 Now, we know we can't move forward with this unless these families settle this strife
00:33:15 Exactly
00:33:16 Pops, out of all the women in Atlanta, you couldn't find anyone else?
00:33:20 Excuse you?
00:33:21 Hey, what you trying to say about my mama?
00:33:22 Exactly what I said
00:33:23 Probably that my father shouldn't have to stoop to your level
00:33:27 I mean, we are shepherds, you know
00:33:28 Say one more thing about my mother
00:33:30 And I will throw another shoe at you
00:33:32 Say, what you gonna do?
00:33:33 I will throw another shoe at you
00:33:34 What you gonna do?
00:33:35 Please, please, please
00:33:36 Hey, man, don't talk to my sister
00:33:37 Or what?
00:33:38 Hey, hey, hey
00:33:40 Hey, knock it off
00:33:42 Stop it!
00:33:43 Knock it off
00:33:44 I said stop that!
00:33:45 You're all acting like a bunch of animals
00:33:48 Now, I know you've all been trained better than this
00:33:51 This is ridiculous
00:33:53 Ridiculous, indeed
00:33:56 No
00:33:57 Mom
00:33:58 No, uh-uh, uh-uh, uh-uh
00:33:59 Don't you see they just want to be happy?
00:34:01 All they asked you to do was come here and be cordial with one another
00:34:04 And you can't even do that
00:34:07 And y'all, y'all don't even come to check on her no more
00:34:13 Exactly
00:34:15 Y'all got your own lives
00:34:17 And things that make y'all happy
00:34:20 All they want is the same
00:34:26 Are you a shopper or a Ford?
00:34:32 How in the world did this happen?
00:34:34 I just wish he would have picked somebody else
00:34:37 I mean, a Ford?
00:34:39 Guess that's what happens when you get old
00:34:41 You get desperate
00:34:42 I'm sorry, last time I checked, you're not a Ford
00:34:45 Not yet
00:34:47 All we can do is respect it
00:34:48 Think about it, it ain't affecting us
00:34:50 Y'all all gonna still have the same lives when this is done
00:34:54 Well, look here, can y'all at least fake it till Christmas is over?
00:34:58 I mean, we all gonna go back to living our regular lives and not be bothered by any of this
00:35:04 I'm gonna need plenty of liquor to get through this Christmas
00:35:08 And I'll do it for Mom
00:35:10 The next day, everyone followed through with the plan
00:35:13 The women were all set to be in the kitchen with Mama
00:35:15 While all the men were going to get a Christmas tree with Mr. Shepherd
00:35:20 Antoinette, where is my son-in-law?
00:35:23 He's not coming, Mama
00:35:24 He had a lot going on at work, so couldn't step away
00:35:27 You mean to tell me he couldn't take a few days to step away and spend time with his family?
00:35:32 Like I said, Mama, he had a lot going on
00:35:35 You know, the holidays are a special time when families are supposed to be together
00:35:39 I personally wouldn't mind a man that works
00:35:42 Should I sacrifice not seeing him on the holidays for a man that can actually take care of his family
00:35:47 Instead of letting a woman do all the work?
00:35:49 I always thought a man's first priority was supposed to be taking care of his family
00:35:53 It definitely is one of them, Lauren
00:35:56 Maiden, when you find the right man, he'll have a balance and know how to take care of his family
00:36:02 You see, a man puts God first, then his family, then his business
00:36:07 Mom, it's 2014. That man does not exist anymore
00:36:10 God has created the perfect man for each and every one of you
00:36:14 Now it's up to you to find him
00:36:17 It may take some time, you know, and you may go through, you know, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
00:36:27 I'm just saying
00:36:30 You know, Ms. Ford, with everything in life nowadays, it's hard
00:36:35 Okay, loving a man is freaking hard
00:36:39 I mean, I should know, I've been through it all
00:36:42 Sometimes you have to settle or you end up alone
00:36:48 They say love is supposed to feel good
00:36:54 But love hurts
00:36:57 It hurts bad
00:37:00 Alright, ladies, take a seat
00:37:03 I'm going to teach you a few things about love
00:37:05 Alright, ma'am
00:37:06 Get your glasses on, y'all
00:37:07 Y'all about to get schooled
00:37:09 You too
00:37:10 Loving a man, baby, is different
00:37:13 It's very different
00:37:15 But the most important thing is that you love yourself
00:37:19 See, I'm feeling like that's my problem
00:37:21 You know, me just loving myself way too much
00:37:24 You know, sometimes things seem perfect, but they're just not meant to be
00:37:28 You know, being in a relationship, it's like having two puzzle pieces
00:37:32 You can't force the fit, but the right pieces fit together perfectly
00:37:37 Now, what you all need to know are the five P's of love
00:37:42 Five P's?
00:37:43 Yes, ma'am
00:37:44 What are they, mama? Tell me
00:37:46 Well, there's pure, and there's passionate, powerful, poisoning, and priceless
00:37:55 Mama, did those come from a song?
00:37:57 No, I did not get them from a song
00:37:59 You probably did
00:38:00 I did not
00:38:01 Let me explain
00:38:03 Now, see, pure
00:38:06 See, when I was a young girl, I met Percy
00:38:11 Now, we were both young and inexperienced and each other's first
00:38:18 And our love was pure
00:38:20 It was untarnished
00:38:22 Now, Percy, he was the perfect gentleman
00:38:26 He did everything his mother asked him to
00:38:29 And he held my heart and guarded it as I did his
00:38:36 What happened?
00:38:37 Well, Percy joined the Army, and he was killed
00:38:42 He loved planes, and he dreamed of being a pilot
00:38:46 See, his grandfather was one of the first Tuskegee Airmen to die
00:38:50 And like him, he died in war
00:38:53 And I still have his dog tags to this day
00:38:57 Passionate
00:38:59 See, later, I met Calvin
00:39:03 Whoo! He was the sexiest man I had ever seen, and I quickly fell in love with him
00:39:10 Oh, now, ooh, the sex
00:39:14 We had so much sex
00:39:17 I couldn't, what?
00:39:19 So what happened to Calvin?
00:39:21 Well, see, passion, it just can't survive without the other four Ps of love
00:39:27 It's the kind of love that helps you get past the milestone, you know, maybe a broken heart
00:39:34 And it helps you fall in love all over again
00:39:37 But you see, the passion that Calvin had for me, he shared with Betty Lou Watson
00:39:46 Adele Louise, and I had a great time
00:39:50 Adele Louise Davis, oh yeah, yeah, yeah
00:39:53 And Willie Mae Scott, oh yeah
00:39:57 That was him
00:39:59 Oh, okay, powerful
00:40:03 Now then, there was Henry
00:40:09 Now, Henry and I shared a powerful love
00:40:14 Oh, see, Henry, he was a son of the first black doctor in our area
00:40:20 And he wanted to be just like his father
00:40:23 Oh, Henry, now see, he was going places
00:40:27 He always knew how to dress
00:40:30 And when I was with him, I felt like the first lady
00:40:35 And anything he needed, I gave him
00:40:39 I mean, I was even willing to break laws for this man
00:40:42 What do you mean break laws?
00:40:44 Well, that's the kind of control he had over me in every way
00:40:47 Oh, I loved Henry
00:40:50 But his father, his father did not love me
00:40:53 You know, he told him, "You can't marry that farm slave"
00:40:59 What?
00:41:00 Yes, that's what he called me
00:41:03 He said that my kind had a slave mentality
00:41:09 And that I wasn't worthy of being with one of the talented ten
00:41:13 But Henry and I defied him, and we saw each other secretly
00:41:18 But you know, Henry idolized his father
00:41:22 And after a while, I saw him less and less
00:41:25 And our powerful love, it just died
00:41:30 Died to love?
00:41:33 Yes, poisoning
00:41:36 Now see, this is the kind of love that you all need to be aware of
00:41:40 Because it is something that gets addictive
00:41:45 And if you're not careful, it can kill you from the inside
00:41:50 And you'll feel you'll never be able to love again
00:41:54 Now, the love I had with William, it was poisoning
00:42:00 See, William was a white man
00:42:02 He was white?
00:42:04 Yes, man, yes he was
00:42:06 And back in my day, a black woman and a white man
00:42:10 It was not unseen, but it was not popular
00:42:14 And William introduced me to cocaine
00:42:18 Yes
00:42:20 And drugs in a relationship, it can be deadly
00:42:25 That drug, the feeling of it was like nothing else
00:42:29 And it made me feel that I loved William more and more
00:42:33 But you know, they say God looks after babies and fools
00:42:38 And he surely was looking after me
00:42:41 Because, see, William was a drug dealer
00:42:44 And he was killed by a supplier that he owed money to
00:42:49 And after that, I woke up
00:42:52 And I left that place, and I left that poison
00:42:55 And moved on with my life
00:43:00 Priceless
00:43:02 See, this is a love that is delivered by God
00:43:06 And when God delivers you a love
00:43:10 You will do everything you can to hold on to it
00:43:16 Because this is a love that is pure
00:43:21 Making you feel like a young girl
00:43:25 It will be passionate
00:43:28 A passion that goes far beyond the bedroom
00:43:32 It's powerful, making you feel like the first lady or the queen of England
00:43:39 But you'll be submissive, as any woman would, for the right man
00:43:44 But it will also be a little poisonous
00:43:47 But just enough to keep you addicted to him
00:43:50 And not some drug or glamorous lifestyle
00:43:55 I had a priceless love with your father, Samuel Ford
00:44:01 There is not a day that goes by
00:44:06 That I don't think about that man
00:44:12 Wishing he would walk up and put his hands on my shoulders
00:44:20 Wishing I could touch him again
00:44:26 He was the father of my children
00:44:29 And he raised his kids like a man should raise his family
00:44:37 When he left
00:44:41 What was it like?
00:44:55 It's okay
00:44:58 Well
00:45:01 You know, they say that God made woman for man
00:45:08 But I think it's the other way around
00:45:11 I think that God made man for woman
00:45:14 You know, he made Adam first because he needed to school him
00:45:17 And get him ready for his greatest creation
00:45:21 Woman
00:45:23 He is the woman
00:45:26 Cheers
00:45:29 Well, I dated a guy three years
00:45:32 I thought he was the one
00:45:35 I had kids the whole nine
00:45:38 But he just
00:45:41 He couldn't deal with my work ethic
00:45:43 He couldn't support my dreams
00:45:45 Never supported my career
00:45:47 Well, honey, maybe he was the one right before the one
00:45:51 Who's your priceless love
00:45:53 You know, but he's a man
00:45:55 Men are stubborn and bullheaded at times
00:45:59 It takes a very, very special man
00:46:02 To follow behind a woman
00:46:04 And in these changing times
00:46:06 Men and women, they just don't play the same role
00:46:09 But a woman is still not supposed to take care of a man
00:46:12 Definitely not
00:46:13 Not at all
00:46:14 And if he hasn't
00:46:15 God will deliver you
00:46:18 The right man at the right time
00:46:20 I promise
00:46:22 But just remember something
00:46:24 Don't be a fool for love
00:46:26 If it doesn't walk like love
00:46:30 If it doesn't talk like love
00:46:33 If it doesn't feel like love
00:46:37 Then baby, it's not
00:46:41 Everybody got that?
00:46:43 All right, cheers to love
00:46:45 Mama talking about Santa Claus
00:46:51 Ain't no fat man coming down that small chimney
00:46:54 We ain't even got a chimney
00:46:56 I know there's a gift series somewhere
00:47:01 We need to find them
00:47:03 Let's go
00:47:05 Merry Christmas
00:47:15 Ho, ho
00:47:17 Excuse me
00:47:19 Hey, I'm Santa Claus
00:47:21 I have a bunch of Christmas gifts
00:47:23 For all the children here
00:47:24 And everybody else here
00:47:26 And I got something for you
00:47:28 No, I'm here
00:47:31 [phone ringing]
00:47:33 So you're reneging on your promise?
00:47:46 I'm not reneging
00:47:50 I understand that our families are different
00:47:55 Just so much going on right now
00:47:57 That it's actually peace
00:48:00 Dorian, I don't understand why we gotta do this right now
00:48:08 I mean, we're not married yet
00:48:11 That's besides the point
00:48:21 Our plan was to do this before we started our residency
00:48:26 To be able to live our lives
00:48:28 But your mom knows
00:48:33 She's looking down right now
00:48:35 You're right
00:48:39 I'll do it after Christmas
00:48:44 Let's just get through the holiday first
00:48:47 And I'll sit down with my father one on one
00:48:56 And tell him
00:48:58 You promise?
00:49:03 I promise
00:49:06 Let's get out of here before somebody suspects something
00:49:20 So paranoid
00:49:25 [music]
00:49:27 Daddy always said, "Dorian was sweet"
00:49:42 Yeah, he's peppermint sweet
00:49:44 Speaking of peppermints
00:49:47 I want one
00:49:49 Come on, let's go find those gifts
00:49:53 [music]
00:49:55 Do you love me?
00:49:58 Do you want to keep me?
00:50:02 You got to get me
00:50:06 [singing]
00:50:11 La la la la la la la la la
00:50:14 It's the season to be jolly
00:50:18 La la la la la la la la la
00:50:22 Oh my gosh
00:50:24 Oh my gosh
00:50:27 I wanted to wait until Christmas Day but
00:50:34 We were never going to my parents
00:50:38 I had a cabin for us
00:50:41 Stacey Ford, I love you with my whole heart
00:50:43 I even love the crazy black girl side
00:50:46 I don't want anything else but for you to be my prize
00:50:53 Prize?
00:50:55 And by prize I mean my wife
00:50:58 Oh, that's very good
00:50:59 You're a grand prize to God
00:51:01 Stacey
00:51:03 Will you marry me?
00:51:05 Yes
00:51:07 [applause]
00:51:10 [laughter]
00:51:12 [applause]
00:51:14 [laughter]
00:51:16 [applause]
00:51:18 Okay, this is for Stacey
00:51:20 I am a bestie
00:51:24 [laughter]
00:51:26 Congratulations, son
00:51:28 Thank you, thank you, thank you
00:51:30 Get over here, get over here
00:51:32 Oh, you did good
00:51:34 I did alright, right?
00:51:36 Hey, hey, hey
00:51:38 [laughter]
00:51:40 This is great
00:51:42 It looks like they're really enjoying themselves
00:51:45 This is great
00:51:47 So it looks like the Shepherd Ford family is finally coming together
00:51:50 Definitely
00:51:52 [applause]
00:51:54 Joey, Joey, Joey, Joey
00:51:57 Sing your favorite Christmas song
00:51:59 Oh, come on, Dad, I was five years old
00:52:01 I'm not going to sing that song
00:52:03 Sure you can
00:52:04 Come on, Joey
00:52:06 Joey, Joey, Joey, Joey, Joey
00:52:12 [applause]
00:52:14 [applause]
00:52:16 [applause]
00:52:18 All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth
00:52:22 [laughter]
00:52:24 Come on, come on, Joey, Joey, Joey
00:52:26 Do it like you used to
00:52:28 Do it like you did when you were young
00:52:30 Two front teeth is not all that Joey wants for Christmas
00:52:33 What you talking about, Zay?
00:52:35 His sweet, soft, little boyfriend
00:52:37 Zay, that's not a funny joke
00:52:39 You said it was a joke
00:52:41 Tell them, Uncle Joey
00:52:43 Now is a perfect time
00:52:47 What's he talking about?
00:52:49 He's right, he's right
00:52:54 I wanted to find the right time to tell you, but
00:52:58 I definitely think it would be now
00:53:02 [sigh]
00:53:03 So here you go
00:53:05 Dorian is not just a friend from medical school
00:53:12 He's my boyfriend
00:53:15 [gasp]
00:53:16 [laughter]
00:53:17 Um, kids, uh, kids?
00:53:20 What you doing in the kitchen with Jay, Ma?
00:53:22 We'll get you a cookie
00:53:24 Be good, yeah?
00:53:25 Don't fight
00:53:26 All right
00:53:27 I'm sure
00:53:29 [sigh]
00:53:31 Daddy?
00:53:34 Ain't no son of mine gonna be with a man still carrying my last name
00:53:46 You look me in the face and you tell me you're gay like a man
00:53:52 I'm gay, Dad
00:53:55 [gasp]
00:53:58 Daddy?
00:53:59 No, no
00:54:00 You all right?
00:54:01 No, I'm all right
00:54:02 I'm all right, I'm all right
00:54:03 I'm all right
00:54:04 Oh, God
00:54:07 Get the hell out of my sight
00:54:10 It's Joey
00:54:14 Really, Dad?
00:54:18 It's like that?
00:54:20 So you don't love me anymore?
00:54:24 Huh?
00:54:26 Huh?
00:54:27 So tough, huh?
00:54:31 I used to be your favorite son
00:54:35 The young you, right?
00:54:37 You want everything to be so damn perfect
00:54:41 Well, I'm not perfect
00:54:44 You want me to change my name?
00:54:48 You want me to erase 25 years of my life?
00:54:55 [music]
00:54:57 All right, I'll erase it
00:55:03 But when you're in your deathbed
00:55:06 A miserable old man
00:55:08 Don't bother to call me
00:55:10 Joey
00:55:12 I won't be there
00:55:13 Really, Daddy?
00:55:17 It's 2014, okay?
00:55:19 And gay people do exist
00:55:21 He is still Joey
00:55:24 [music]
00:55:26 Yeah, it's 2014
00:55:30 And you're still dancing on the pool
00:55:33 Taking care of a man who could never know how to love you
00:55:36 Why?
00:55:38 Your children
00:55:39 They have no discipline
00:55:41 Your mother's up in heaven crying her eyes out
00:55:44 Right now
00:55:45 Love you
00:55:46 Don't do this
00:55:47 Don't do this
00:55:48 You
00:55:50 You run away every man
00:55:51 Because you're so power hungry
00:55:52 You don't know how to be a wife
00:55:54 You must be gay too, huh?
00:55:55 Pa!
00:55:56 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
00:55:58 That's not it, that's not it
00:55:59 Your issue is
00:56:02 You can't keep a man because of all the abortions you've had
00:56:05 To keep your career afloat
00:56:06 Daddy!
00:56:07 You can't have children anymore
00:56:09 What man wants a sterile woman?
00:56:11 Pa!
00:56:12 You are going too far
00:56:13 You
00:56:15 You had a great family
00:56:17 But you put everything else before them
00:56:19 Your own daughter doesn't even respect you
00:56:22 Well ain't that the pot calling the kettle black?
00:56:26 Alexa, let's go
00:56:30 So much for boarding school, huh?
00:56:36 And you think your family is so...
00:56:38 Joseph!
00:56:39 Now, I know you're upset
00:56:42 But being hurtful is not gonna heal anything
00:56:48 No, Mary
00:56:49 It's not enough
00:56:51 We created these monsters
00:56:53 And it's up to us to tame them
00:56:56 Before we leave this earth
00:56:57 What are you talking about?
00:56:58 All of you
00:57:01 Have drained your mother of everything
00:57:04 Your mother's in so much debt
00:57:07 From all of the schools that she's paid for and sent you to
00:57:11 And you can't even pass the damn bar
00:57:14 What is it now?
00:57:17 Four times you've missed it?
00:57:18 Yet you call home to get money from your mother
00:57:21 To spend on this gold digging hussie
00:57:24 Joseph!
00:57:25 Antoinette
00:57:28 You got a degree from Yale
00:57:30 Yet you choose to be a housewife
00:57:32 And after all the sacrifices they made to send you to that school
00:57:37 Stacy
00:57:39 You've been on Broadway for what?
00:57:41 Four years?
00:57:42 And not once did you send home one penny to your mother
00:57:45 Joseph, what are you doing?
00:57:46 To pay for your Juilliard education
00:57:48 Not to mention the child support payments
00:57:50 Your mother's been paying for your secret child
00:57:53 Joseph!
00:57:54 Got your mother paying child support for a grandchild
00:57:59 She may never even see
00:58:01 Stacy, is this true?
00:58:04 I can't believe you, Mom
00:58:08 Stacy
00:58:09 Stacy
00:58:11 Stacy
00:58:15 And you're so proud to carry your father's last name
00:58:18 Yet your addiction to heroin
00:58:21 Cost your mother so much pain it nearly killed her
00:58:24 You have no right to judge my past
00:58:29 You don't know my pain
00:58:31 You have no idea what I had to go through
00:58:34 Amen
00:58:35 I lost my career
00:58:36 My wife
00:58:37 My kids
00:58:39 I lost every damn thing
00:58:43 And a man is supposed to fight for what he wants
00:58:47 You don't cower down
00:58:49 Real men endure pain
00:58:53 Real men let their struggle be their strength
00:58:57 Don't you know that's why your wife left you, son?
00:59:00 What kind of an example are you setting for your own son?
00:59:06 Oh, but wait
00:59:08 Don't go nowhere, have a seat
00:59:10 Oh, the real climax is coming
00:59:13 Let me tell you about your father
00:59:15 Joseph, what are you doing?
00:59:17 This is enough
00:59:20 No, Mary
00:59:22 It's not enough
00:59:24 You need to stop holding this all in
00:59:28 They need to know
00:59:30 You may all have felt like your father
00:59:33 Was a great man
00:59:36 But all he left you, when he left
00:59:40 Were pills
00:59:42 Mama, is that true?
00:59:44 Mom
00:59:46 Yes, honey
00:59:50 I tried to keep it going, but it just got too hard
00:59:56 Oh, but that's not it
01:00:02 That's not it at all
01:00:04 When your father slipped into a coma
01:00:06 And when he died
01:00:07 The doctors were looking around for somebody to pull the plug
01:00:10 That was not a decision that your mother made
01:00:13 You see, the truth is
01:00:15 Your father was never legally divorced
01:00:17 Yeah, he had another wife
01:00:20 By the time your mother found out what was going on
01:00:23 The first wife
01:00:25 Slipped in like a thief in the night and pulled the plug
01:00:28 Now, Lauren
01:00:31 Why don't you go ahead and tell your family why you asked me for $40,000?
01:00:35 $40,000?
01:00:36 $40,000?
01:00:38 The house is in foreclosure
01:00:42 I was trying to save the house
01:00:45 She took everything
01:00:51 She took the money
01:00:53 She took the insurance
01:00:56 The pension fund
01:00:58 Everything
01:01:00 All she left, Mama, was the house
01:01:04 You see, life for the Fords isn't as great as you thought
01:01:07 Now, is it?
01:01:09 I trusted you
01:01:19 I trusted you
01:01:25 How could you do this to me?
01:01:31 Grandma
01:01:32 How could you do this to me?
01:01:35 Look, I already know, Dad
01:01:48 I never make anything out of my life
01:01:52 Hell, I barely even graduated high school
01:01:56 You don't gotta say what you say every day to me
01:02:00 You talk about being a man
01:02:02 What kind of man does something like this?
01:02:05 Tear down his whole family because they don't fit his ideal image
01:02:09 You never wondered why we are how we are?
01:02:14 It's because of how strict you were to us back then
01:02:18 You never let us do anything
01:02:20 All you ever told us was work, work, work
01:02:23 And that's exactly what we're doing
01:02:25 But we're not your little puppets anymore
01:02:29 We have our own lives to live now
01:02:31 Everything you did for us, you were supposed to do because you're our father
01:02:35 You brought us in this world
01:02:37 And from that point on, you owed us everything you could ever do for us
01:02:41 But that don't mean we owe you anything
01:02:44 Old man, we don't owe you nothing
01:02:48 We're grown and we can live our own damn lives
01:02:51 Yeah, that's right
01:02:53 I said damn
01:02:54 And I mean it
01:02:57 It's because you're a miserable old man
01:02:59 Don't mean you have the right to destroy our hearts and kill our spirits
01:03:02 And since you want to air out everyone's dirty laundry
01:03:07 Why don't you go there and tell us how mom really had a stroke
01:03:11 Yeah, that's right
01:03:12 Mom had a stroke because of this man right here
01:03:15 Our father, Joseph Jacob Shepard
01:03:18 Papa was a rolling stone
01:03:25 Couldn't keep his hands off them damn nurses
01:03:27 Mom even walked in on him in the nurse's office one day
01:03:32 And you know that broke our poor little heart
01:03:36 And that's why you're so angry
01:03:39 Because you know you single-handedly killed my mother
01:03:43 Now it's time for you to let the rest of your life wear that badge of guilt
01:03:49 And for you to be a man
01:03:51 I just pray you can handle it
01:03:55 (Groans)
01:03:56 God please forgive my father
01:04:09 For he has yet sinned again
01:04:12 I pray that he owns up to his faults
01:04:16 And I pray that the guilt demons in his head
01:04:20 That control his spirits
01:04:23 Don't kill him
01:04:24 Before he can truly repent for his sins
01:04:27 I'll let you say amen
01:04:38 That's what a real man would do, right?
01:04:41 (Sighs)
01:04:42 Just so we're clear
01:04:58 You're fucking dead to me
01:05:01 (Footsteps)
01:05:03 See I knew this would be a complete waste of time
01:05:30 We could be in Paris right now
01:05:32 Alicia not now
01:05:33 Or we could at least be with my family
01:05:34 We love each other
01:05:35 We could have a nice, happy, friendly holiday
01:05:37 Alicia
01:05:38 Oh my god
01:05:39 Not right now
01:05:40 This is what it's like to be in families that have financial problems
01:05:43 You know they just don't even know how to get their shit together at all
01:05:46 Alicia!
01:05:47 Repeat what you just said
01:05:51 (Clears throat)
01:05:54 I
01:05:59 I just uh
01:06:00 I guess this is what it's like
01:06:04 In families that just have financial problems
01:06:07 But listen
01:06:09 I got a secret
01:06:10 Me and you, we're gonna be well off babe
01:06:12 We're not gonna be like your family
01:06:14 Get out of my momma house
01:06:15 What?
01:06:17 My sisters was right
01:06:19 You ain't nothing but a gold digging
01:06:22 High maintenance
01:06:23 (Gasps)
01:06:24 Psycho
01:06:26 Get out of my mothers house disrespecting my family like this
01:06:29 Travis
01:06:31 Travis you can't be serious
01:06:33 What do you mean leave?
01:06:34 Alicia this is not a joke
01:06:36 I mean get all of this shit
01:06:38 And go back to your rich family and tell them I'm not taking care of you no more
01:06:42 That was expensive
01:06:44 I just had to process that
01:06:45 Um
01:06:46 What do you mean leave?
01:06:49 Like
01:06:50 Hmm
01:06:51 And how exactly am I supposed to get to the airport?
01:06:53 Figure it out
01:06:56 Get out
01:06:57 You're gonna regret you said that to me
01:07:23 (Music)
01:07:25 Joseph
01:07:41 I know you're angry
01:07:44 And I know you're upset
01:07:46 But what you did
01:07:50 In there was wrong
01:07:52 That wasn't love
01:07:53 That was bitterness
01:07:57 And resentment
01:07:59 And your own bruised ego
01:08:02 That's not the man I love
01:08:08 The man I love
01:08:11 Is caring
01:08:13 And compassionate
01:08:15 And loving
01:08:18 How could you
01:08:20 Betray me like that
01:08:22 How?
01:08:24 Mary
01:08:25 I told you those things in confidence
01:08:26 Mary
01:08:28 And you used them to hurt me
01:08:30 Mary
01:08:31 You have got to fix this
01:08:33 And I don't even know if you can
01:08:35 You made a mess
01:08:39 Of everything
01:08:41 Oh no no
01:08:44 What are you doing?
01:08:45 Mary what are you doing?
01:08:47 I don't think I can move forward
01:08:48 No
01:08:49 No no no no no
01:08:50 No Mary
01:08:51 No baby
01:08:52 Goodbye Joseph
01:08:54 Mary
01:08:57 (Music)
01:09:01 It just seems like
01:09:17 No matter how hard you try
01:09:19 Certain things in life just won't be perfect
01:09:21 I'm just so ready to move to LA
01:09:24 And get away from all of this
01:09:26 So I can focus on myself and my career
01:09:29 You know
01:09:31 Lauren
01:09:32 You should come with me
01:09:33 And do what?
01:09:35 And sing
01:09:36 What else?
01:09:37 You're not going to let that gift go to waste are you?
01:09:39 Or you just want me there to support you through your struggle
01:09:42 You know while you're playing and all
01:09:46 We should be the real Ford/Shepard couple
01:09:49 Okay see whatever is in that flask
01:09:51 Has really got you tripping
01:09:52 What you doing?
01:09:54 Woah

01:10:24 You've been keeping this frame thing so secretive so long
01:10:28 I don't know what else to say
01:10:31 (Chuckles)
01:10:33 (Beeping)
01:10:35 (Beeping)
01:10:36 Merry Christmas little Ford
01:10:41 Merry Christmas for you Shepard
01:10:44 So
01:10:46 What are we going to do now?
01:10:47 Move down there and get married
01:10:49 No
01:10:51 (Laughs)
01:10:52 Without our families
01:10:53 We can't just let Christmas be like this
01:10:55 I don't think there's nothing else we can do
01:10:57 I mean
01:10:58 My family's already packing up their stuff at home
01:11:00 Okay then

01:11:15 You sure?
01:11:17 Yeah I'm good
01:11:18 Okay
01:11:19 Besides you talk more than me anyway
01:11:20 Just a lot of stumbling going on there
01:11:23 I'm good
01:11:24 So
01:11:26 What exactly did that kiss mean?
01:11:28 Everything
01:11:30 What do you mean everything?
01:11:32 Everything I've been meaning to say for the past few years now
01:11:35 I just
01:11:36 Didn't know how to say it
01:11:38 Are you really okay?
01:11:43 Yeah I'm fine
01:11:44 Chill

01:13:43 I missed you so much
01:13:44 Come here, come here
01:13:46 Come here
01:13:47 Oh honey
01:13:48 Mom
01:13:49 Oh hey
01:13:50 Michael hey
01:13:53 Hey son
01:13:54 How you doing?
01:13:55 What are you guys doing here?
01:13:56 Well I needed to be around my baby you know and it's Christmas
01:14:00 I just had no idea you were going to be so far away like Atlanta
01:14:04 Veronica I can explain
01:14:05 Oh no, no need
01:14:06 You have no duty
01:14:07 Everything I need to make sure you never see him again
01:14:11 Hello Veronica it's good to see you
01:14:13 And you
01:14:14 Sammy let's go have a seat with you so your parents can talk
01:14:18 Come on baby
01:14:19 I got you
01:14:20 Yes
01:14:21 Veronica he is fine so don't make a scene
01:14:26 A scene?
01:14:27 This line was ordered by the courts to keep my children in the state of Florida
01:14:32 And what do you do?
01:14:33 What do you do when I finally give you a chance?
01:14:35 You go and you break the law
01:14:37 You know I should really have you put in jail except it is Christmas right?
01:14:41 I had to be here
01:14:42 No, no, no Samuel, Samuel save it for the courts
01:14:45 So what?
01:14:46 I put my brother through hell already
01:14:48 He's just trying to do the right thing
01:14:50 When your mother's out here she wants her father to do the right thing
01:14:53 It's cute, you're humming his ass, just wants him to suffer
01:14:56 Oh well you've always been very unspoken and opinionated
01:14:59 It's very cute thank you
01:15:00 Babe we didn't come here to ruin anyone's holiday
01:15:02 No I did not, I absolutely did not but I do want you to understand something Samuel
01:15:07 My son has a father and his father takes very very good care of us
01:15:14 Better than a drug addict ever could
01:15:16 You brought this on yourself Samuel
01:15:18 If you hadn't been kicked out of the league for using steroids you would still have your family
01:15:22 I never wanted my child to be around a sorry excuse for a man
01:15:28 I didn't, I wanted him to have a certain standard of cooth and class and you never fit the bill Samuel
01:15:35 I'm sorry you didn't
01:15:36 Why, why am I still standing here and reliving my dreadful past?
01:15:41 I am so happy that my last name is no longer Fort
01:15:46 But you can uphold the legacy of a Fort woman
01:15:48 You lack class
01:15:50 Okay yeah please, so says the dancer, let's go, let's go honey, let's go, say goodbye, come on
01:15:54 Okay
01:15:56 Come on, hurry Sammy, come on, let's go
01:16:03 No wait, this isn't right, no
01:16:05 Excuse me?
01:16:07 On the contrary to how you feel about my dad, I love him
01:16:10 Now don't get me wrong, Michael you're a great father and you do take care of me but I'm a Fort and I'm proud of it
01:16:18 That's great
01:16:20 Being here this Christmas has really taught me the true meaning of the whole holiday itself and more importantly being a family
01:16:28 Samuel, we're your family
01:16:31 But they are too
01:16:33 I know that you and dad have problems but that has nothing to do with me
01:16:37 He fought for three years in court just to see me, three years
01:16:43 And that just shows how much he loves me
01:16:45 And right now he needs me
01:16:48 So I'm staying here
01:16:50 Samuel, this is not an option
01:16:52 Love, he does have a point
01:16:55 The anger that you feel for his father shouldn't stop him from having a relationship
01:16:59 Now I love being a stepdad and his mentor but I want to see him happy
01:17:03 So as your husband I am telling you to let him stay
01:17:06 Now stop being so disagreeable
01:17:09 No I didn't mean to say that
01:17:13 In the car, I'll be right there
01:17:16 It's Christmas time baby
01:17:21 Thank you so much
01:17:37 Thank you
01:17:38 Have a happy holiday
01:17:39 You too, Merry Christmas
01:17:41 I'm going, it's going to be a long ride home with my wife
01:17:44 How are you son?
01:17:45 I'm okay
01:17:47 What happened?
01:18:07 I lost control of the wheel
01:18:09 Lauren, we just
01:18:11 She's unconscious and not responding
01:18:13 No, no
01:18:15 But will she be okay?
01:18:17 It's too late to say anything right now
01:18:20 I've got to get back
01:18:22 I'll update you as soon as I can
01:18:24 What did you do Reed?
01:18:29 What did you do?
01:18:31 Reed man, tell me it's not true
01:18:33 Robert said the officers found a bottle of alcohol in your car
01:18:37 Or you could go to jail
01:18:39 I told him that it was my car and my alcohol sir
01:18:43 I didn't want him to get in trouble
01:18:45 Thank you
01:18:47 Look it's not what y'all think
01:18:52 I promise
01:18:53 I promise
01:18:56 I'm sorry
01:18:58 I'm going to go talk to your mom real soon, okay?
01:19:04 Okay
01:19:06 Listen
01:19:11 I know the last thing you want to talk about right now
01:19:14 Is more stuff that's going on
01:19:17 And I understand where you're at and there's a lot of stuff going on here
01:19:20 But I didn't exactly want to find out what I found out
01:19:24 I don't know anything about the situation
01:19:28 And I'm going to be honest with you
01:19:30 When I found out
01:19:32 I mean I was pissed
01:19:35 It doesn't even bother me so much
01:19:40 That there is somebody else
01:19:42 That's a part of your past
01:19:44 It hurt me
01:19:47 To know that either you felt like you couldn't tell me something
01:19:50 Or that you had to hide something from me
01:19:52 Doug that's-
01:19:53 No listen, listen
01:19:54 Let me finish what I had to say
01:19:56 Now I had made up my mind
01:19:59 Before we came here today
01:20:01 That I didn't want to go through with it
01:20:03 But when I thought about that it could be you in there
01:20:06 I don't know what I would do if I lost you
01:20:19 But if there's anything else
01:20:22 Whether it's a secret
01:20:25 Or you just love Cheetos or anything
01:20:28 And you want to tell me
01:20:30 It's not the time to joke
01:20:32 Is there anything else?
01:20:35 It's not that I love you
01:20:38 Baby you came
01:20:41 Well you said you were going to leave me
01:20:43 So I didn't have much choice now did I?
01:20:45 Let me tell you something
01:20:47 You are the most important thing in the world to me
01:20:50 I love you
01:20:52 I know I work hard but
01:20:55 I just want to make you happy
01:20:57 Baby loving my life with you
01:20:59 Making memories with you
01:21:01 Is what makes me happy
01:21:02 Not money
01:21:04 Okay, I'm going to change
01:21:06 I promise
01:21:08 Now your mom is right
01:21:10 You definitely need to do something with that degree
01:21:13 Okay?
01:21:14 Make me some money
01:21:15 You want me to make you money?
01:21:17 I don't know about that
01:21:18 Can I do that?
01:21:19 Make you a lot of money?
01:21:20 Okay
01:21:21 I love you
01:21:22 I love you
01:21:23 Come on let's go check on your sister
01:21:26 Yeah
01:21:27 What happened?
01:21:38 Your brother was drunk and driving
01:21:41 That's what happened
01:21:43 Were you drinking?
01:21:46 Only had a little bit
01:21:48 I swear
01:21:50 Mrs. Ford
01:21:59 Yes
01:22:01 Lauren's body is under a lot of stress right now
01:22:07 She has a lot of internal injuries and her
01:22:10 Her organs are slowing down
01:22:12 We're going to have to go in and repair her liver
01:22:15 Surgery?
01:22:17 If we wait, her liver will fail
01:22:20 And so will the kidneys and so on
01:22:24 So she can die?
01:22:27 Yes ma'am
01:22:29 Do the surgery
01:22:40 I'm sorry
01:22:42 Can we see her?
01:22:50 I'll see what I can make happen
01:22:52 We don't have a lot of time
01:23:07 I can't lose my baby
01:23:10 Yo Trey, Zay

01:23:34 Yes we are, your brother is fine
01:23:35 My brother is fine and his friend is not
01:23:37 I don't want to hear that
01:23:39 I'm not going to get off of you
01:23:41 What's wrong with you?
01:23:42 You keep running your mouth
01:23:44 Come on, we're leaving
01:23:49 Let's go
01:23:51 Daddy I'm okay
01:23:53 Yo, put that down, that's your mother

01:23:59 I'll kill you
01:24:01 No, why?
01:24:03 Calm down
01:24:05 Is it too much to ask that you be civilized for once?
01:24:09 My daughter is fighting for her life
01:24:12 Where are your priorities?
01:24:14 Mrs. Ford you can see your daughter but you've only got five minutes
01:24:20 I'm okay, I'm okay

01:29:15 All is calm

01:29:27 Round yon virgin mother and child
01:29:35 Holy infant so tender and mild
01:29:46 Sleep in heavenly peace
01:29:57 Sleep in heavenly peace
01:30:05 So many people pass on by me
01:30:22 I see their sadness in their eyes
01:30:26 I only wish for them to find true happiness and love inside
01:30:36 Every day is Christmas day
01:30:44 May your heart show you the way
01:30:49 Could you reach deep within
01:30:53 In the strength to ease the pain
01:30:58 Every day is such a gift
01:31:02 Close your eyes and imagine
01:31:06 Please believe me when I say
01:31:11 Every day is Christmas day
01:31:17 I knew that somehow the holiday spirit would truly bring the Fords and the Shepherds together
01:31:22 I just didn't realize it would require for me to almost lose my life
01:31:27 But they say God will use you to make a miracle happen
01:31:30 This is how I truly know that this union was meant to be
01:31:34 Mr. Shepherd put in a lot of work mending Mama's heart
01:31:37 He finally got her to agree to marry him again on Valentine's Day
01:31:41 He surprised her by getting everyone to come home again
01:31:44 Well, all except for Joey
01:31:46 Mrs. Shepherd and Joey are better but they have got a lot of rebuilding to do
01:31:51 The weird thing is now it seems like the Shepherds and the Fords have gotten too close
01:31:58 All in all the feud is over
01:32:00 The Shepherd and the Fords are happy
01:32:03 I love my family no matter how dysfunctional they are
01:32:07 Stacey and Doug are set to be married in the summer
01:32:10 Me and Reed are weirdly still an item
01:32:14 But I'm trying to figure out a way to let him down easy so we can just be friends
01:32:19 He's a great guy but there is only room for one Ford-Shepherd couple
01:32:25 We really learned a lot this Christmas
01:32:29 We learned how to be happy for each other and how to love each other
01:32:33 This was truly a Christmas to remember
