Labour: Govt slanging match over PPE processes is concerning

Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones has expressed concern over the "public slanging match" within government over its PPE procurement during the Covid pandemic.

Amid allegations of preferential treatment of ministers involving huge amount of taxpayer money, the Labour Party has called for an independent review of the procurement process. Report by Alibhaiz. 00:04 and conservative ministers about huge amounts
00:07 of taxpayers' money.
00:09 There are allegations that ministers gave special treatment
00:12 to Michelle Mone and to others,
00:14 gave them longer contracts than maybe they should have had,
00:17 and gave them more money than they should have had,
00:19 and maybe didn't get the quality of the equipment
00:21 they thought they were buying.
00:22 In the process, that's why we in the Labour Party
00:24 have called for an independent review
00:26 of what ministers knew and how the process was followed,
00:29 because only by getting an independent view of the facts
00:32 are we able to take an informed view.
00:33 But clearly, there are lessons to be learned here,
00:35 and it's just an unacceptable situation to be in
00:38 in the context of what was a global pandemic.
