The Mercy of God
The mercy of God is one of His greatest and most apparent attributes. It is what causes Him to love His servants, have mercy on them, forgive them, and overlook their sins. God Almighty says:
"And My mercy encompasses all things." (Quran 7:156)
The mercy of God is boundless and immeasurable. It encompasses everything, even every creature in this universe, even the disbelievers and polytheists. God Almighty says:
"And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." (Quran 21:107)
Happiness in Drawing Near to God
One of the greatest causes of happiness in this world and the next is drawing near to God Almighty and obeying Him. The closer a servant draws near to God Almighty, the more He loves him and is pleased with him, and the more he will receive of His mercy and pleasure. God Almighty says:
"And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out * And He will provide for him from where he does not expect." (Quran 65:2-3)
Drawing near to God Almighty is achieved by performing acts of worship and obedience, such as prayer, charity, fasting, and pilgrimage. It is also achieved by doing good to others, helping the needy, protecting people from harm, and purifying the heart from hatred, envy, and malice.
There are many proofs from the Quran and Sunnah that drawing near to God Almighty leads to happiness in this world and the next. These include:
"Say, [O Muhammad], "By Allah's grace and mercy, and by this let them rejoice. It is better than what they accumulate." (Quran 10:58)
"And whoever fears Allah and is patient - then indeed, Allah does not waste the reward of the good-doers." (Quran 12:90)
"And those who have believed and done righteous deeds - We will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein. The promise of Allah is true, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise." (Quran 4:122)
In the hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger will enter the Fire."
Thus, drawing near to God Almighty is the secret to happiness in this world and the next. Whoever wants to be happy in this world and the next, let him strive to draw near to God Almighty and obey Him ..♥
