00:00 I arrived on scene. I was first officer.
00:02 I observed that the vehicle was on fire
00:04 when Fraser officer Cameron Reaper
00:05 pulled up to this scene off of Hayes
00:08 just South of 15 last Saturday night.
00:10 He knew immediately what to do.
00:11 Pull the driver out.
00:12 There was flames in like the bed
00:14 area of the truck and then the
00:16 engine compartment was just
00:18 starting to catch on fire.
00:19 He says the driver was disoriented
00:21 and kept grabbing the steering wheel,
00:23 but he never stopped trying to get her out.
00:25 She appeared confused,
00:26 wasn't really answering any questions.
00:27 She was still inside the vehicle,
00:29 so I opened the door,
00:30 took her safety belt off and
00:32 tried to get her out of the car.
00:34 Reaper was once a firefighter,
00:35 so his instincts kicked in.
00:37 Her safety became his top priority.
00:38 She was an elderly female.
00:40 It's really unknown if she had a
00:42 medical issue or if that would exactly
00:44 happen for the original crash.
00:46 Officer Reaper tells us that the
00:47 woman is currently recovering in
00:49 the hospital from non life threatening
00:51 injuries, but he offered up tips
00:53 on what to do when you see these
00:55 kinds of situations. Do your best
00:57 to try to assist the driver.
00:59 You know whether yelling to them
01:01 to get out of the car,
01:02 informing our dispatch exactly
01:03 what's going on just for we have
01:05 accurate information when we get
01:07 on scene and we kind of know what
01:09 we're walking into. Reaper says
01:10 he's no hero, but he's grateful
01:12 he was able to help her.
01:13 I'm glad she's OK.
01:14 Glad that she didn't get hurt or
01:16 injured too bad and that she's
01:18 living in Frazier. Lauren Edwards.
