00:00 Brock.
00:01 Brock, I think you finished with 12 assists,
00:03 all eight in the second half and nine in the second half.
00:06 What were you seeing and what worked so well for you tonight?
00:08 I mean, we just got so many guys
00:09 that are so good off the ball, cutting, back cuts.
00:11 That opens up threes, open up layups.
00:13 So many cutters, I mean, that just makes my job
00:15 so much easier.
00:16 They know I'll get them the ball, they'll cut.
00:17 So, great cutters, great players.
00:19 That's just so much fun to play with.
00:21 A couple nasty no-look passes tonight from you.
00:25 Is that something that you kind of had to develop,
00:27 having the eyes in the back of your head kind of thing?
00:30 Or is it just kind of a feel?
00:31 How does that work for you?
00:32 I've always kind of been a pretty good passer,
00:34 but then just watching a lot of film,
00:35 a lot of the coaches like to watch film,
00:37 and that just, we see what the tendencies are.
00:39 The other teams, that makes my job easier.
00:41 Like I said, guys cutting, I know where they're gonna be,
00:44 and they know where I'm gonna get them the ball.
00:45 So, just kind of knowing spots.
00:47 What has this transition been like for you coming to college?
00:50 What have been the challenges on the court,
00:53 and I guess the ways that you feel like you've excelled?
00:56 Just kind of each game growing more and more.
00:59 I mean, guys are physical.
01:01 A lot of guys, they've been trying to back me down.
01:02 I'm just trying to fight the post,
01:04 getting better on defense.
01:06 I was a pretty good defender in high school,
01:07 but it's a whole different level in college.
01:08 So, learning how to guard on the ball,
01:10 get rebounds, box out,
01:11 just adjust into that part of the game.
01:13 The offensive game's been pretty not terrible.
01:17 Do you feel like you had--
01:18 Is this what you should expect from you
01:19 for the next few years?
01:21 I mean, I just think we got a really good team,
01:25 and a lot of good players.
01:26 So, if they're going to keep cutting,
01:27 I'm going to keep getting on the ball,
01:28 and we're going to have a lot of wins
01:30 in the next couple of years.
01:31 How much fun is it when you're just throwing the ball around,
01:33 seeing Tony get the dunk on the break,
01:35 just feeding Josh, all those guys?
01:36 How fun is that for you?
01:37 I mean, we're all so close off the court.
01:39 That just makes playing on the court that much more fun.
01:41 Tony dunks, stares the guy down, starts laughing at him.
01:44 That just gives everybody else energy,
01:46 building off each other's energy.
01:47 It's just such a fun team to play with.
01:49 Do you feel like you had to maybe come in
01:51 and give this team a spark tonight?
01:53 I mean, I feel like every game I come in
01:55 and bring a lot of energy, get up on defense,
01:57 control the game on offense,
01:58 try to get the game going a little quicker.
02:00 So, coaches have just been stressing to me
02:02 to do that every single game,
02:03 and I feel like I've done a pretty good job
02:04 of that so far this year.
02:06 Do you have any idea of the most assists
02:07 you've gotten in any sort of game anywhere?
02:11 No, not really.
02:13 I typically don't count them.
02:14 I just kind of just go.
02:17 Tony said you were aware when you had eight and eight.
02:19 Yeah, he kept telling me.
02:20 He was telling me.
02:22 So you had no idea?
02:23 No, it's just him.
02:24 He counts them all.
02:26 He said that on that layup that gave you ten,
02:30 he was thinking about it.
02:31 Were you at all at that moment?
02:32 He was telling me in the timeout before,
02:34 and then I was running behind him,
02:35 and normally he's going to try to finish that,
02:37 but I think just my first time,
02:39 he just wanted to get me the layup.
02:40 So, really, when you got leaders like that,
02:42 that makes this team so much fun to play for.
02:45 Brock, I mean, some guys struggle transitioning
02:47 into motion offense when they aren't used to really running it,
02:49 but it just seems like game after game
02:50 you've continued to embrace it and even lead in it.
02:52 I mean, what do you kind of attribute your ability
02:54 to kind of run this motion offense
02:56 despite being so young right now?
02:57 In high school, we played really fast.
02:59 We kind of ran a motion game and off and tied the ball
03:01 a lot more, creating a lot of stuff,
03:03 but just the biggest adjustments has been new guys,
03:06 figuring out what these guys like to do,
03:07 and, I mean, we've been with each other since June
03:09 and had the overseas trips,
03:11 so just we've been building as a team more and more every game,
03:13 figuring out where guys like to be, get their shots,
03:15 and I think you see that as the season's going on.
03:18 I know you've been asked about kind of your workouts
03:20 like after the games, but, like, when did that start, I guess?
03:23 Like, how long have you been kind of doing
03:26 those types of things?
03:27 I mean, my parents have always stressed to me,
03:29 like, if you want to be good at something,
03:30 you got to put the work in.
03:31 I'd say COVID's really when my mind kind of flipped.
03:34 I thought I was a pretty good player my freshman year.
03:36 I played varsity my freshman year,
03:37 but the biggest jumps were after COVID.
03:39 Like, I started to work out a lot,
03:41 and I just -- I'm angry if I figure out
03:44 somebody's working out more than me,
03:45 so it's just kind of hardwired into me
03:47 to try to be the hardest worker out on the court every night.
03:50 You mentioned that hard work.
03:52 You played a lot of minutes tonight,
03:53 but it seemed like you were still able to go no matter what,
03:57 whether it's a turnover from them,
03:58 you're able to get down and go for a layup.
04:00 I mean, is being in shape part of that emphasis
04:05 of working hard, too? Yeah, for sure.
04:07 I mean, I've always kind of played a lot of minutes
04:09 my whole life until this year, 15 minutes or whatever,
04:12 but, I mean, games like tonight,
04:14 I mean, I've just always kind of ran up and down.
04:16 My offensive -- my high school, we ran all the way --
04:19 ran up and down the court,
04:20 and then the court's getting a little bigger,
04:22 so just getting more in shape.
04:23 Our strength guys are really good, keeping us in shape,
04:26 keeping us strong during the season,
04:27 so that's been really good so far.
04:30 What kind of routine do you expect to have --
04:32 What kind of routine do you expect to have with the break?
04:35 I mean, you're going to go home, I assume,
04:37 and then, you know, do you have, like, a set time
04:40 when you're going to go work out?
04:41 Yeah, I mean, typically, I don't like to sleep in too late
04:45 because then I kind of wake up angry
04:46 that I didn't work out already, so I'll probably wake up --
04:49 I'll probably sleep in until, like, 7 and work out at 7
04:52 and then probably go from there,
04:54 hang out with my family a little bit,
04:55 and then probably get some shots up after that
04:59 and then probably some light strength stuff
05:00 just to not lose a lot of the strength
05:03 that I've built so far this season,
05:04 so probably two to three workouts over the next four days
05:08 or whatever it is at home.
05:10 All right, thanks, Brian.
05:12 Thank you, guys.
05:13 >> All right, let's see, JD's got the head up.
