00:08 You're squinting and rubbing, but your tired eyes continue to torture you.
00:12 And it's no wonder they're sore.
00:14 How many hours a day do we all stare at a screen?
00:16 Well, before you reach for yet another bottle of eye drops,
00:20 why not give these strain-relieving eye exercises a try?
00:23 Starting with...
00:25 1. Eye Rolling
00:27 To do this exercise, you'll need to hear someone say something that really annoys you.
00:31 I'm kidding!
00:32 To start off with, you can either sit or stand.
00:35 Relax your shoulders, straighten up your neck, and look ahead.
00:38 Look to your left, and then slowly roll your eyes up towards the ceiling.
00:42 Keep rolling them to the right and from there to the floor.
00:45 Do it clockwise five times, and then the other direction another five times.
00:50 Repeat three of these cycles.
00:52 To achieve even better results, close your eyes as you're rolling them.
00:56 This helps lubricate your eyes and eases the strain on the muscles.
01:00 2. Eye Flexing
01:01 Flexing isn't only for strengthening your body muscles and showing off.
01:06 You can also use it to make eye muscles stronger.
01:08 And here's how you do it.
01:10 Sit on a comfortable chair and look straight ahead.
01:12 Then move your eyes up without changing the position of your neck.
01:15 After that, move your eyes down.
01:17 Do ten reps for this one.
01:19 Once you've done that, look to the left as far as you can without moving your neck.
01:23 Keep it straight, then look to the right as far as you can and repeat ten times.
01:27 Do this whole eye flexing cycle four times.
01:30 3. Eye Pressing
01:32 Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes while taking a deep breath.
01:36 Place an index finger on each eyelid and apply very light pressure for ten seconds.
01:41 Let go for two seconds and then press gently again.
01:44 That'll be one rep, and you'll do ten of them.
01:47 As you can guess, it's important to be very careful while performing this exercise.
01:51 You can hurt your eyes if you press too hard.
01:54 4. Blinking
01:55 Constantly staring at the computer or a mobile screen can make you forget to blink as often
02:00 as you should.
02:01 That's why your eyes get red, sore, and irritated.
02:04 But I'm not going to just tell you to remember to blink.
02:07 There's a special way to do it to relieve tired eyes.
02:10 Find a blank wall to eliminate any possible distractions and sit in front of it.
02:14 Keep your neck straight and your shoulders low.
02:17 Close your eyes and wait for 30 seconds before opening them.
02:20 Do that ten times.
02:21 And if anyone asks why you're sitting and blinking in front of a blank wall, just tell
02:25 them you're exercising.
02:26 You wouldn't be lying.
02:28 5.
02:29 Sideways Glancing
02:30 Find a comfortable position sitting, standing, or lying down and look straight ahead, without
02:35 moving your head or neck.
02:37 Look to the left as much as you can.
02:39 Keep your eyes in that position for three seconds.
02:41 Now look in front of you for a second.
02:43 Move your eyes to the right as far as you can and hold them there for three seconds.
02:48 Repeat this whole set ten times.
02:50 Keep your hands together and you'll look like you're scheming some evil plot.
02:54 Hehehehe.
02:55 6.
02:56 Bouncing
02:57 Imagine that your eyes are bouncy balls.
02:59 Uh, that's horrible.
03:01 Stop it!
03:02 All jokes aside, this exercise is a fun one and you can do it even while chilling in bed.
03:07 So take any position that's comfortable for you and look ahead.
03:11 You can do this exercise either with your eyes closed or open.
03:14 Your task here is to start moving your eyes up and down as quickly as you can.
03:19 Do it ten times and then take a five-second break.
03:22 Repeat this cycle three times.
03:23 7.
03:24 Eye Massage
03:25 Massage is great for relaxing the muscles in your body, but you can't forget about
03:29 your little eye muscles, too.
03:30 They could really use a nice relaxing massage after a tough day of, well, seeing stuff.
03:36 Plus, this one is really good for dry eyes.
03:39 Anyway, to do it, sit in a comfortable chair and loosen up your shoulders.
03:43 Tilt your head back a bit and close your eyes.
03:46 Then put your index and middle fingers on each eyelid and start moving them in circular
03:51 motions.
03:52 But here's where the magic comes in.
03:53 Move the fingers on your left eye in a clockwise direction, but the other fingers on your right
03:58 eye counterclockwise.
04:00 After ten reps, switch up the direction on each eye.
04:03 8.
04:04 Shifting Focus
04:05 If you've ever had problems with focusing, then this exercise is definitely for you.
04:10 Place a chair near a window and take a seat.
04:12 Put your right arm in front of you and stick your thumb out.
04:15 First, you should focus on the tip of your thumb for two seconds.
04:18 Then focus on the window for the same amount of time, but don't move your hand.
04:22 And lastly, focus on some object out the window for two seconds, like a building or tree.
04:28 Then shift your focus back on your thumb.
04:30 Do this cycle ten times.
04:31 9.
04:32 Palming
04:33 I'm sure you've heard of face palming, but what about eye palming?
04:36 Well, it's a little different, of course.
04:38 Your eyes need to rest from all the stimulation they get from light, and that's what this
04:42 exercise is good for.
04:44 Not to mention, it's just so calming and relaxing.
04:47 First, and rub your hands together for a bit to make them warmer.
04:50 Then put your elbows on the table in front of you and place your palms over your closed
04:54 eyes.
04:55 Take deep and steady breaths and relax as you feel the tension leave your eyes.
04:59 To achieve the best possible result, do this exercise for five minutes.
05:03 10.
05:04 The Moving Pencil
05:05 This exercise is like a real workout for your eyes.
05:08 For this one, you'll need a pencil.
05:10 A pen, of course, will do, too.
05:12 Stand in a comfortable position on a chair and keep your neck and head straight.
05:16 Hold the pencil in your right hand and press the eraser end to the tip of your nose.
05:20 Focus your vision on the eraser.
05:22 Then, start slowly extending your arm while keeping your eyes on the pencil.
05:26 After that, bring your arm back to its starting position, all the while keeping your focus
05:31 on that pencil.
05:32 Again, ten reps will do the trick.
05:34 11.
05:35 Figure 8 Tracing
05:36 This exercise will beef up the flexibility of your eye muscles.
05:39 To do it, you'll need a blank wall and a bit of imagination.
05:43 Sit in a chair about ten feet away from the wall and imagine a giant number 8 written
05:47 on it.
05:48 Then, rotate that number sideways and start slowly tracing it with your eyes.
05:52 But keep in mind that you shouldn't move your head.
05:55 Trace the 8 upright for two minutes and then sideways for another two minutes.
05:59 12.
06:00 Double Thumbs Up
06:01 To keep toning up those eye muscles, extend your arms to the fullest and stick both thumbs
06:05 up, holding them directly in front of you at both sides.
06:09 Rest your vision on the tip of your right thumb for five seconds.
06:12 After that, look at some distant object that's located in the space between your two thumbs
06:16 for another five seconds.
06:18 Finally, move your eyes to the left thumb for five more seconds.
06:22 When you're done, go back to the distant object and then the right thumb.
06:25 You'll do that ten times as well.
06:28 13.
06:29 Invisible Writing
06:30 Again, sit in front of a blank wall about ten feet away and get ready to use your imagination.
06:35 What you'll do is write invisible words on the wall using only your eyes.
06:40 You can start with something simple like your name, and after some time, go to full but
06:44 short sentences.
06:45 You can even write secret messages.
06:47 Hey, nobody will know what you're writing with your eyes.
06:49 That's the fun of it!
06:51 14.
06:52 The 20/20/20 Exercise
06:53 The best way to keep your eyes healthy and your vision sharp is to avoid things that
06:57 lead to eye strain.
06:58 Of course, I'm not going to tell you to chuck your computer, phone, or tablet.
07:03 Let it be utter nonsense, but at least you can change your working routine to give your
07:06 eyes some regular rest from being glued to a screen.
07:09 If you have to work in front of a computer for long periods of time or you're on yet
07:13 another YouTube marathon, take a break every 20 minutes and look at something 20 feet away
07:18 for 20 seconds.
07:20 See?
