LIV Golf Year in Review

00:00 It's been another tumultuous year in golf, highlighted by two big things.
00:05 One is back in June, on the 6th of June actually, when the PGA Tour announced a surprising agreement
00:14 with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.
00:17 After a year of fighting, the Tour secretly had been negotiating with the DP World Tour
00:23 and the Sovereign Wealth Fund that backs Live Golf to enter into a framework agreement
00:30 that would see the parties come together in an alliance and bring peace to the game.
00:35 Well, six months later, that deal has still yet to be confirmed.
00:40 A deadline of December 31st was put in place, and where it goes from here is still up in the air.
00:48 The other big thing that occurred, John Rahm, the Masters champion, decided to move over to Live Golf.
00:55 So what does that mean?
00:57 After more than a year of saying he didn't like the format, he didn't need the money,
01:01 he apparently decided he was okay with the format and the money was too big to turn down.
01:07 Nine figures guaranteed, plus all the prize money he can earn on Live in 2024.
01:13 So what's ahead? Well, in 2024, it's probably going to be more of the same.
01:17 PGA Tour is going to play its schedule. Live Golf is going to play its 14 tournament schedule.
01:23 Will there be peace? Well, that's still up in the air.
01:27 Does the PGA Tour and the PIF come to some sort of agreement? That's undecided.
01:32 If they do, whatever they decide and however these organizations are to somehow align,
01:39 it's very unlikely anything could change before 2025, if even then.
01:44 Monumental, the task ahead to bring these parties together, to bring some sort of peace,
01:50 to get it all worked out, even in time for 12 months from now.
01:54 What if there isn't a deal? Well, then we're looking at going these separate paths again and the game will be divided.
02:02 The PIF very likely will sign more PGA Tour players. The game will be divided even more.
02:08 It seems that it's in both parties' interest to get a deal.
02:12 The Tour doesn't want to have its players be taken away and not playing in PGA Tour events other than the major championships.
02:19 And the PIF would like to have the credibility of being associated with PGA Tour,
02:24 which would open up other avenues for them and possibly make Live Golf a little bit more viable
02:31 in some sort of structure that is under the PGA Tour ban.
02:35 Can all of that happen? That's what we're still waiting to find out.
02:39 And why 2024 could be just as tumultuous as 2023.
