Foreigners march to police station to lodge complain, instead get hauled up by Immigration Dept

More than 170 Bangladeshis who walked together on a road near the entrance of Teluk Ramunia Bayu Damai, in Kota Tinggi, Johor on Dec 20 had grabbed the attention of the public.

The group, walking in a single file on the road shoulder, was caught on a video posted by a social media user who questioned the public’s safety due to their presence.

00:24 Kota Tinggi OCPD Superintendent Hussein Zamora in response said the 171 Bangladeshi men were
00:30 documented individuals who were brought into the country legally for work.
00:35 However, he said it has been more than three months since their agent provided them with
00:40 any work.
00:41 He added the Bangladesh nationals then decided to walk to the Bayu Damai police station,
00:46 about 10km away from their accommodation, to lodge a police report.
00:50 It is learned that the foreigners did not manage to lodge a police report as police
00:54 found out that the agent had yet to find suitable employment for them.
00:59 In a twist of events, he said a police report was made by the army against the foreigners
01:04 on the same day.
01:05 The foreigners, aged 19 to 43 years old, have been detained by the Immigration Department
