00:00 Hello there, welcome to your week ahead forecast. Looking through this festive period it does
00:06 stay unsettled over the coming days. So it is worth staying tuned to the forecast if
00:11 you are travelling. Good news is Christmas days where the fronts are moving out of the
00:16 way and for Boxing Day a brief ridge of high pressure starts to move in. So yes, a chilly
00:21 start to Boxing Day. Plenty of sunshine though to greet us first thing. A few icy stretches
00:26 across northern Scotland where wintry showers will continue to feed in from the north during
00:31 the day. But plenty of sunshine as we move through the day on Boxing Day though turning
00:36 increasingly hazy as clouds thicken from the south west. Parts of Devon and Cornwall are
00:40 seeing outbreaks of rain into the afternoon and this spreading a little further north
00:44 eastwards as we move through into the evening time. Temperatures a little nearer to normal
00:49 for the time of year, generally 4 to 6 Celsius across the north of the UK. Still a little
00:55 milder in the south, 9 or 10 Celsius. And then looking at the picture for Wednesday,
01:01 it is all change again. Low pressure starts to move in from the Atlantic bringing some
01:05 very strong winds, outbreaks of heavy rain and also the risk of some snow over the higher
01:10 ground of Scotland. So do take care if you are travelling on Wednesday. We already have
01:15 MetEvis warnings across the country. Strong winds around the coast in the south and the
01:19 west. We could see gusts of 50, 60, 70 miles an hour. Outbreaks of heavy rain as well,
01:24 the MetEvis warnings for rain across western parts of England and Wales. And then as the
01:28 rain bumps into the colder air across Scotland we could see some snowfall here too. So MetEvis
01:35 warnings in force here as well. So overall a very unsettled day. Do take extra care if
01:40 you are travelling. And temperature wise, well mild, 13 degrees across much of England
01:45 and Wales. Still chilly across the north, particularly over the higher ground of Scotland
01:50 where accumulations of snow will continue to build. As we move into Thursday, it stays
01:55 blustery. The main system moves out of the way but then we'll see showery rain. Tie-tie
01:59 sabars there continuing, particularly across England and Wales, indicating those winds
02:04 staying strong. So through the day on Thursday, plenty of showers across the country. Some
02:10 of them will be heavy but they should move through fairly quickly on that brisk breeze.
02:14 There will be some sunny spells in between. Temperatures in the north on the chilly side,
02:18 4 to 8 Celsius. In the south still mild, 11 or 12. But the strength of the wind generally
02:23 feeling cooler than the numbers suggest. And then as we end the working week, we'll generally
02:29 see it stays unsettled. Low pressure remaining in charge as we head into Friday. Again those
02:35 tight ice sabars indicating the winds will remain strong. So another blustery day. Sunny
02:40 spells and scattered showers across much of the country. Some showery rain at times too,
02:45 particularly across southern Scotland and northern England. In between some brighter
02:49 spells. Wintry showers still across Scotland where it will be a chilly feeling day with
02:54 that northerly breeze. Elsewhere, temperatures near average but still mild once again across
03:00 southern counties of England and Wales. To end the week and into the weekend, well low
03:05 pressure continues to dominate. It stays unsettled. We'll see further showery spells of rain at
03:12 times. Brisk winds are possible too. So it is an unsettled week to come. It is worth
03:17 staying up to date with the forecast if you are travelling through this festive period.
03:22 See you again soon.
