00:00 Tarush Jindal is only 11 but is already South Australia's under-15 state champion.
00:07 You need a little bit of creativity. It takes a lot of hard work and it takes a lot of sacrifice
00:16 time.
00:17 Tarush only moved to Australia from India with his family early this year. He's already
00:22 one of the state's best hopes at the upcoming Australian Junior Championships.
00:27 My aims and goals for the championship is to get in the top three and then my further
00:32 goals are to just become the under-12 champion.
00:36 Tarush only started playing chess during the pandemic and practices four hours a day. He
00:41 recently jumped into the top 20 in the country for his age group.
00:46 I'm really looking forward to becoming a good, great chess player after 10 years.
00:51 Adelaide twins Charlotte and Cindy Chen are also tipped to go far. Cindy is the current
00:57 national under-10 champion and earlier this year both girls won state titles. They say
01:03 chess is a game for everyone, irrespective of their ability, experience or age.
01:09 I love the challenges and I love learning from my mistakes. I love how there are so
01:16 many possibilities that you can play on the board.
01:19 Cindy and Charlotte will both compete for the title in the under-12 girls tournament
01:23 starting January 13. The senior chess championships will also be held in Adelaide earlier in the
01:29 month, for the first time in 20 years.
01:34 Checkmate.
01:36 Beginning January 2, hundreds of hopefuls from across the country will compete in the
01:41 senior tournament, while the Chen twins hope the junior event will help attract more young
01:46 people to the game.
01:48 Lots of people in the state play. I really hope that this chance will allow more people
01:53 to play more chess.
01:54 The prize pool for the tournaments is worth more than $30,000.
