Labour’s Emily Thornberry says that a likely UK general election in May 2024 is the “worst kept secret in Westminster”. On Wednesday, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced that the date of the Spring Budget would be 6th March, fuelling speculation on the date of the general election, which must be held before 28th January 2025. Ms Thornberry added that the country is “crying out for an election”, and that the current Conservative government is “done”. Report by Jonesia.
