00:02 I'm Morit Riesewig.
00:06 And I'm Hans Block.
00:07 And we are the directors of "Eternal You"
00:09 that will be premiering at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
00:14 A protagonist of our documentary asks,
00:16 "If you had the chance to talk to someone who died
00:20 that you love, would you take it?"
00:23 What sounds like a fantasy from a science fiction movie
00:26 is already offered by companies today.
00:29 By using artificial intelligence,
00:31 these companies create avatars of deceased persons
00:34 so that their loved ones can interact with them.
00:37 The fact is, machines are getting better and better
00:45 at imitating human life, imitating emotions,
00:48 imitating specific personality traits
00:50 so that they become confusingly similar.
00:53 However, it harbors many risks, consequences
00:56 of which we do not yet know.
00:58 We had the opportunity to accompany
01:00 the first users of this technology
01:03 who seek comfort with these applications
01:05 and who would give everything to be able to talk
01:08 to their deceased loved ones again.
01:10 However, the film is not only about new technologies,
01:16 but also shows the extent of Western world's
01:19 transcendental homelessness in dealing with grief and death.
01:23 "I never wanted to be in a film."
01:28 After years of filming, not only in North America,
01:31 but also in places like South Korea or New Zealand,
01:34 we really feel like we captured a transformational moment.
01:38 And we would love to open a debate about the impact
01:41 of artificial intelligence on today's societies
01:44 here at the Sundance Film Festival.
01:47 We are super happy to share the film with you
01:49 and we hope you enjoy it.
