You may recognize some of the cast of the new Netflix teen series “XO, Kitty” as it's a TV spin-off of the popular “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” franchise. Narcity’s Morgan Leet sat down with stars Anna Cathcart (Kitty) and Anthony Keyvan (Q) to talk about what it was like filming the show in Korea and how their off-screen dynamic was just as wholesome as the onscreen chemistry. Cathcart also reminisces about filming the previous movies in her hometown of Vancouver, and how it compared to this new series.

00:00 - Well, I was still in high school when I was shooting the movies,
00:02 and I could go to school on my off days.
00:03 And that experience was so vastly different
00:06 than moving to the side of the world and living in Korea
00:09 for four months and kind of, I mean, honestly, like Kitty,
00:12 taking this big step of going on this big adventure.
00:15 - Okay. Did the Kitty and Q dynamic come naturally for you guys,
00:19 or was it something you discovered once you were on set?
00:21 - A little bit of both. - Yeah, I think so.
00:24 - Honestly, when I was in the casting process for all of this,
00:28 I obviously knew Anna was attached.
00:31 It was known to the world that she is Kitty.
00:33 So I knew of her, but we only had met over Zoom.
00:37 - For like 15 minutes. - Literally.
00:39 - And it was just reading the scenes. - It was just like two scenes,
00:41 and there was no getting to know each other whatsoever.
00:42 - Not at all, no. - So I was like, "Oh my god,
00:44 I really don't have a feel for her."
00:46 And I'm sure she didn't have a feel for me either.
00:48 So when I got to Korea, it was like, "Oh my gosh."
00:50 But honestly, we meshed so well. It was so easy.
00:53 We are always on the same page about things,
00:55 and it was one of those things where we didn't have
00:58 to communicate how we were feeling if we were in a scene
01:00 and it didn't feel right. - Same wavelength.
01:01 - Yeah. - Exact same wavelength.
01:03 We could fill in the blanks for each other,
01:04 of just the look of like, "Yeah, we knew what that meant,"
01:07 or like, "Oh, should we do this?"
01:08 - "Let's tweak this." - That helps so much,
01:10 and it's so comforting to know
01:12 that we have each other's back as well.
01:13 And I also agree that Q and Kitty's relationship
01:16 is one of my favorite dynamics on the show.
01:18 I feel like everyone wants a friendship like that.
01:20 I know I do, so it is a special one,
01:23 and I feel like I was so lucky to have you as my Q,
01:26 like, completely. - I feel the same.
01:29 - My favorite part about the show
01:31 is all of the relationships.
01:33 So dynamic, everybody likes everybody.
01:36 Who did you guys ship in the show?
01:38 Maybe after watching, who were you really rooting for
01:41 to get together?
01:42 - I am a huge fan of the "Enemy's to Lovers" trope.
01:45 I will say it over and over again.
01:47 - So am I. - Honestly, that's one
01:49 of my favorite things about the show,
01:50 so I really want to see her kind of navigate
01:53 this newfound idea that she has now that Mino has,
01:58 wait, are we gonna spoil it?
02:00 Is this post?
02:01 - Yep, yeah. - Okay, okay.
02:03 Now that Mino has made this declaration
02:05 of his love for Kitty, I think that was like,
02:08 kind of came out of left field, you know?
02:10 It was one of those like, will they, won't they dynamics.
02:12 So I'm curious to see how Kitty can figure out
02:16 her feelings towards that,
02:18 especially now that she's come to terms
02:19 with leaving Kiss, too.
02:20 So it's a lot of things up in the air,
02:22 and I'm really excited to see what she does.
02:24 - And you guys both, you know, traveled to Korea
02:26 to film this, which is a huge deal.
02:28 How was filming different for you, Anna,
02:31 from "To All the Boys I've Loved Before,"
02:33 which was in your hometown of Vancouver?
02:35 - I mean, that already is a huge determining factor
02:37 of the experience.
02:38 One, I was like, in my own bed when I went home.
02:41 Like, I was in my family house.
02:43 I was still in high school when I was shooting the movies,
02:44 and I could go to school on my off days,
02:46 and like, that experience was so vastly different
02:48 than moving to the side of the world
02:50 and living in Korea for four months,
02:52 and kind of, I mean, honestly, like Kitty,
02:55 you just have, like, taking this big step
02:56 of going on this big adventure
02:57 and facing new challenges and meeting new people.
02:59 So definitely was a whole new experience,
03:01 and also just a different position
03:03 of who my character was in the show
03:05 and what that meant for me as an actor
03:06 and me as a person and the things that came with that
03:08 and the responsibilities were majorly different.
03:11 So it was a very steep learning curve,
03:13 and I'm very proud of Kitty and of myself.
03:16 Definitely feel very, very grateful that I got the chance.
03:19 - I've been an actor since I was five years old,
03:21 so I kind of had the mindset
03:23 that I really knew what I was doing,
03:24 and I was proven so wrong.
03:26 I had so much to learn,
03:28 and I'm really grateful for the experience because of that.
03:30 I feel like, yeah, I've grown so much as a brother,
03:34 as a friend, as an actor, as an artist.
03:36 I feel like that experience in Korea
03:39 has really transformed me as a person,
03:41 and I'm really grateful to that experience because of that,
03:43 and also the fact that it was, like,
03:45 a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity
03:47 to go travel to a foreign country for four months
03:49 and live there and work there.
03:51 It's not something every actor gets to do,
03:54 so I feel really blessed that we got to do that.
03:56 - Congratulations again.
03:57 Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me.
03:59 - Thank you so much. - Thank you.
04:00 - Nice to meet you. - Good talking to you.
