00:20 Welcome to the Rich Rabbit and today we will be talking about the Spanish tennis sensation Garbine Muguruza.
00:28 Muguruza was born in Caracas, Venezuela but moved to Spain at the age of 6.
00:34 Her father, Jose Antonio Muguruza is Spanish and mother Scarlett Blanco is Venezuelan.
00:40 And as a result, Garbine has dual citizenship of both Venezuela and Spain.
00:47 She started playing tennis at the age of 3 and underwent extensive coaching at the Bruguera Tennis Academy in Barcelona.
00:55 She idolized Serena Williams while growing up so it's no surprise that her game is just as explosive as the Americans.
01:04 After turning professional in 2012, Muguruza was given a wild card for her first WTA Tour main draw appearance at the Miami Open.
01:15 She was eliminated in the round of 16.
01:18 At the US Open, she qualified into the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
01:24 However, she lost in three sets to Sara Irani in the first round.
01:29 At the 2013 Australian Open, she lost to Serena Williams in straight sets in the second round.
01:36 After Wimbledon, Muguruza underwent a right ankle surgery and missed the rest of the season.

01:47 She ended that year as the world number 63 in singles and number 153 in doubles.

02:57 before falling to the eventual champion Serena Williams in three sets.
03:02 At the US Open, she recorded her first win at the tournament by defeating German Karina Witthoft in the first round.
03:10 However, she fell short to Johanna Konta in the following round in three sets.
03:15 The match lasted for three hours and 23 minutes, the longest women's singles match in that tournament's history.
03:23 Muguruza then travelled to Singapore for the 2015 WTA Finals, where she lost to eventual champion Rydwanska in the semis.
03:33 The Spaniard started her 2016 at Brisbane International when she had to retire in her first match of the tournament due to an injury.
03:42 At the Dubai Championships, Muguruza suffered another early loss as she fell to Alina Svitolina.
03:49 She kicked off the clay court season by participating in the Fed Cup against Italy.
03:55 She scored wins against Francesca Schiavone and Roberta Vinci to help Spain enter the World Group next year.
04:03 At the Madrid Open, she lost in the second round against Irina Kamilia Begu.

06:08 She then faced the previous year's runner-up and world number one Angelique Kerber,

06:16 She then defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova and Magdalena Rybarikova both in straight sets,
06:23 to advance to her second Wimbledon final.
06:27 And there she defeated Venus Williams in straight sets, clinching her second major title.
06:33 In doing so, she became the first ever player to defeat both Williams sisters in major singles finals.
06:41 Muguruza entered the US Open as a contender for the number one WTA rankings.
06:47 She beat Rybarikova in a rematch of the Wimbledon semi-final to reach the fourth round of the US Open for the first time.
06:55 But then she lost to Petra Kvitova in straight sets.
06:59 Despite the loss, Muguruza rose to the number one ranking after reigning number one
07:05 Karolina Pliskova's loss to Vanderve in the quarterfinals.
07:09 She became the 24th woman to achieve the ranking.
07:13 Muguruza and Rafael Nadal made Spain the first country since the US 14 years ago

07:31 She then lost in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan Open to Jelena Ostapenko and retired in the first round of the China Open.
