Artificial intelligence, A-I, is going to change the way we work, and employers know it. A new study by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Access Partnership reveals that 73% of employers are prioritizing the hiring of AI-skilled talent, but three out of four say they are unable to meet their talent needs. Jenni Troutman, Director of Products and Services at AWS Training and Certification, is joining us live from Houston this morning with more details about the types of cloud computing skills employers are looking for and how you can take advantage of free training. 00:00 Artificial intelligence or AI is going to change the way we work and employees
00:04 know it. A new study by Amazon Web Services and Access Partnership reveals
00:10 that 70% of employees are making sure to hire AI skilled talent. Well last week I
00:15 talked with Janine Trotman about the types of skills employees are looking
00:21 for. Good morning Janine, how are you doing? I'm fantastic, thank you for having
00:29 me. Good, all right this is such an important topic right now because a lot
00:32 of people are kind of confused out there what AI is and how it's impacting the
00:37 world. So can you explain a little bit before we start talking of course about
00:41 what you guys are doing with AI? Yes, so AI or artificial intelligence is the
00:47 field of computer science that's dedicated to solving problems that
00:52 traditionally required human intelligence. So things like recognizing
00:56 speech or images, playing games, even driving a car. AI powered tool that most
01:03 people are familiar with is when you go on amazon.com and shop those
01:07 recommendations around what you might be interested in that are always changing.
01:11 That's AI at work. It's changing what is surfaced to you based on your behaviors
01:16 and other data that comes in around behaviors of others. Yeah I like it
01:21 because it helps me because you know I might be looking for something that
01:23 exactly knows what I'm kind of looking for which is good. And that brings up the
01:26 next thing about of course generative AI. I think I'm saying it right. Yeah
01:31 generated AI and the difference there. What's the difference from that?
01:36 Yes, so generative AI is really just the next step in artificial intelligence. It
01:41 uses AI powered tools to generate information. So that's the term. So it
01:48 might be generating a story based on a couple questions or prompts that you
01:51 might have, generating pictures, music. If you go online and you're looking for
01:57 help and the chat box pops up that you ask a question and it provides an
02:01 answer and then as your additional questions evolve the answers and
02:05 information they provide about that's generative AI in action. Got it. I like
02:10 that. Okay let's talk about the study that was just done about this. Yes, so at
02:16 Amazon Web Services AWS we recognize that the way people work is changing.
02:21 Businesses are evolving what they're doing, leveraging AI and just the way
02:25 people work individually is changing with these tools. And so we partnered
02:30 with Access Partnership to do some research to understand what would be the
02:34 value to people of building skills in AI. And what we found was pretty staggering.
02:40 First of all, almost all companies in the US are either using AI technology today
02:46 or plan to use it in the next few years. And 73% of employers are actively
02:51 prioritizing hiring AI skilled talent right now, but three out of four of them
02:56 can't find it. So building those skills is highly valued to finding jobs that
03:03 are high paying. They're also willing to pay for those skills anywhere from 35 to
03:08 47% more in salary across different roles, not just technical roles. It's also
03:14 business roles, HR, finance, marketing. So we at AWS want to provide the tools for
03:21 anyone who wants to learn to be able to build those skills and tap into that
03:25 opportunity. I like that. All right let's talk about possible job that are
03:30 available for people who do have technical skills. Yes, so AI is
03:36 underpinning lots of different roles. For one, specialized roles in AI are things
03:41 like data engineers, data architects, scientists, anything related to data and
03:47 analytics because data is what powers artificial intelligence. But also other
03:53 technical roles like software developers who have AI skills and know how to use
03:59 tools that make them more productive are also highly valued. So at AWS we have a
04:05 coding companion called Amazon Code Whisperer that what we found is when a
04:09 developer uses Amazon Code Whisperer to help them generate their code, they
04:14 actually develop their applications 57% faster. So knowing how to effectively use
04:19 those tools in a software development type role is also highly valued. But it's
04:24 not just technical roles. Business roles, as I mentioned before, also get a lot of
04:29 value out of AI powered tools. And so we encourage everyone to go out and learn
04:36 what AI and generative AI is and how it can help you in your specific role to be
04:43 more innovative, creative, and productive. Wow that's so great and I know right now
04:47 like you said it's a great time for you to go learn, see what's going on. So where
04:51 can we find more information about the study and of course about possible jobs
04:54 in AI? Yes, so if you go to about amazon.com/29million you will find all
05:02 kinds of resources for anyone from if you're in the workforce looking to build
05:07 AI skills or other cloud technology skills all the way to programs and
05:12 initiatives for college high school students that are just starting to move
05:16 into the workforce and even children to get exposed to this technology because
05:20 it's not going away. It is the future of how we work. It is definitely. Jenny, thank
05:25 you very much for joining us this morning. This is great information and
05:28 again we'll have the website for people to go check it out. Awesome, thank you. I
05:33 appreciate you having me on the show.
