00:00 If you didn't see them, you probably heard them.
00:08 Summer Nats had its opening ceremony today.
00:10 The city crews up Northbourne Avenue and back and it brought out the crowds.
00:15 Methanol, the smell of petrol, the smell of rubber, high RPMs, all of it.
00:21 There'll be over 120,000 spectators through the gates over the next four days, bringing
00:26 $35 million worth of economic impact to the ACT in what would otherwise be a fairly quiet
00:31 time of year.
00:32 Organisers say 85% of those attending are from out of town.

00:59 we have plenty of room to store as many vehicles as we can.
01:03 Today's program featured burnout competitions and the first round of the modified lawnmower
01:07 racing.
01:08 I'd probably do about 140, 150.
01:16 While many come for the atmosphere, others have been working towards this weekend for
01:20 decades, and tonight the fruits of those labours of love will finally be revealed.
01:25 We've got the Meguiars unveiled, 25, never seen before, beautiful, elite cars have been
01:30 in the build for 5, 10, 15, sometimes 20 years.
01:33 But this is just the beginning with plenty more to come over the next few days.
01:38 Summer Nats also has several iconic cultural events.
01:41 Mullet Fest is back.
