00:00 "I'm the big fat panda."
00:02 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most awesome, legendary
00:07 moments from the Kung Fu Panda films.
00:10 Beware of spoilers ahead.
00:12 "Finally, a worthy opponent.
00:14 Our battle will be legendary!"
00:19 Number 10.
00:20 Oogway Ascends - Kung Fu Panda
00:23 Oogway is the wise tortoise master who taught Shifu the ways of Kung Fu and of life.
00:28 The elderly mentor is contemplating things beneath a peach tree when Shifu rushes up
00:32 in a panic about Tai Lung's escape.
00:34 "Tai Lung has broken out of prison.
00:36 He's on his way!"
00:39 "That is bad news."
00:41 Although Oogway is confident that the Dragon Warrior will overcome Shifu's former pupil,
00:46 Shifu has difficulty believing in Po.
00:49 Using the peach tree as a metaphor, Oogway suggests that Shifu helped Po to become the
00:53 best version of himself, not what Shifu envisions he should be.
00:58 "You just need to believe.
01:01 Promise me, Shifu.
01:04 Promise me you will believe."
01:06 And with that final lesson, Oogway, knowing his passing is imminent, instead rises to
01:12 the spirit world, disappearing in a breathtaking, blossoming fashion.
01:16 "Master!"
01:17 "I'm so sorry, Shifu."
01:32 The heartfelt life lesson, along with the gorgeous imagery and soundtrack, make this
01:37 quiet scene positively soar.
01:40 Number 9.
01:41 Po Plays With Li - Kung Fu Panda 3
01:45 The third film sees Po meet his birth father, Li.
01:48 Po shows his dad the Jade Palace and all of the priceless kung fu-related treasures contained
01:53 within.
01:54 "Sweet bride."
01:55 "Ahh!"
01:56 And since they have so much in common, Li doesn't have to work too hard to convince
02:00 Po to goof around and play with the various artifacts.
02:03 The duo's shenanigans are both heartwarming and hilarious.
02:06 "Go long, son!"
02:08 "Po!
02:09 I wasn't ready!"
02:11 The sequence is the two of them making up for lost time.
02:14 Plus, all the unique armor, weapons, and other accoutrements are quite creative and cool.
02:20 While Shifu and the Furious Five are less than enthused when they first catch them in
02:24 the act, we still think it's adorable.
02:28 "Hello?"
02:31 Number 8.
02:32 Po Trains With Shifu - Kung Fu Panda
02:34 After learning what he needs to do to unlock Po's potential, Shifu brings him to the birthplace
02:40 of kung fu.
02:41 "This is the birthplace of kung fu."
02:45 There, he channels Po's love of food to incentivize him during training.
02:50 The ensuing montage is exhilarating and entertaining.
02:53 However, the crown jewel of the sequence occurs when Shifu and Po engage in a duel using chopsticks
02:59 to fight over dumplings.
03:00 "You are free to eat."
03:02 "Am I?
03:03 Are you?"
03:04 Despite primarily featuring objects meant for eating, the choreography and speed of
03:09 the fight are surprisingly great.
03:12 Po finds himself satisfied enough to go without eating, and we find their battle similarly
03:17 rewarding.
03:18 "I'm not hungry."
03:19 "Master."
03:20 Number 7.
03:21 Battle At The Jade Palace - Kung Fu Panda 3
03:32 Kai, a former friend of Oogway, returns from the spirit realm after being banished there
03:36 by the aged master.
03:38 Focused on obtaining the chi of every kung fu master in China and demolishing all Oogway
03:43 built, he attacks the Jade Palace with jadefied versions of some of the Furious Five members.
03:48 "Now I will destroy everything he has created."
03:54 Kai's bladed chains make for some creative attacks, and there's a particularly great
03:59 long shot sequence as he battles Shifu and the other members of the Furious Five.
04:03 "How's that for a little kid?"
04:05 Kai ultimately converts most of Po's friends into his jade minions, and destroys the palace
04:10 using Oogway's own statue.
04:12 The bull's assault isn't very long, but it quickly establishes him as a threat.
04:17 "I will show you the true power of chi, brother."
04:22 "No!"
04:23 "No!"
04:24 "No!"
04:25 "No!"
04:26 "No!"
04:27 "No!"
04:28 "No!"
04:29 "No!"
04:30 "No!"
04:31 "No!"
04:32 "No!"
04:33 "No!"
04:34 "No!"
04:35 "No!"
04:36 "No!"
04:37 "No!"
04:38 "No!"
04:39 "No!"
04:40 "No!"
04:41 "No!"
04:42 "No!"
04:43 "No!"
04:44 "No!"
04:45 "No!"
04:46 Number 6.
04:47 Tai Lung vs. Shifu - Kung Fu Panda
04:48 Tai Lung is a great martial artist, and groomed him to dream of being the Dragon Warrior.
04:51 And when the Snow Leopard villain arrives, his confrontation with his old master is fraught
04:56 with emotion.
04:57 "Who denied me my destiny?"
05:00 The exchange of blows is suitably spectacular, with a great use of verticality and some truly
05:05 incredible moves.
05:07 How about that blade redirection by Shifu?
05:09 Tai Lung is as much a product of Shifu's teaching as he is of his own drive, and Shifu's
05:14 defeat is heartbreaking to watch.
05:17 The atmosphere, great use of the environment, and the charged emotions throughout help make
05:22 this one of the most narratively satisfying fights in the franchise.
05:25 "Tell me how proud you are, Shifu!"
05:28 Number 5.
05:29 Po and Kai face off - Kung Fu Panda 3
05:33 When Kai assaults the Panda Village, Po gets the drop on him, hoping to finish his foe
05:38 off with his wushi finger hold.
05:40 However, when that plan doesn't work, "It only works on mortals."
05:44 they fight on the ice, before the battle moves to the village.
05:48 With no other option, Po sends himself and Kai to the Spirit Realm by using the move
05:52 on himself.
05:54 There, Kai nearly defeats Po.
05:57 However, empowered by his family and friends, Po's chi takes the form of a dragon, and he's
06:02 able to turn the tides against the villain.
06:04 "I am the Dragon Warrior.
06:08 Get it?
06:09 Is he the giant dragon?"
06:11 This fight feels like a story in and of itself, with great progression from hopelessness to
06:16 a triumphant conclusion.
06:18 Kai may not be able to handle all that chi, but we cannot get enough.
06:22 "It's too much!
06:24 It's too much!
06:26 No!
06:27 No!
06:28 No!"
06:29 Number 4.
06:30 Tai Lung's Prison Break - Kung Fu Panda
06:36 Tai Lung is a phenomenal martial artist, and his introduction certainly leaves an impression.
06:43 After news emerges that the Dragon Warrior is being selected, Tai Lung uses a mere feather
06:47 to escape his binds.
06:49 He then proceeds to scale his impossibly elaborate prison, using practically everything the Rhino
06:55 Guards shoot or throw at him to climb higher.
07:03 Even with the ground crumbling beneath him, Tai Lung just doesn't stop.
07:17 It gets to the point where we almost root for the guy.
07:21 Incredibly epic and chock-full of incredible shots and comedy, Tai Lung's escape is a
07:25 real breakout scene.
07:27 "Fly back there and tell them, the real Dragon Warrior is coming home."
07:33 Number 3.
07:34 Who You Choose To Be - Kung Fu Panda 2
07:37 Following his confrontation with Lord Shen, Po is left floating in the river and confused
07:42 about where he came from.
07:43 Thankfully, he's rescued by the Soothsayer.
07:50 She reveals to him that he's in the village where he was born.
07:53 Seeking inner peace, Po meditates and recovers repressed memories of his mother sacrificing
07:58 herself to save him, putting him on the path to be raised by his adoptive dad.
08:03 With some advice from the clairvoyant goat - we don't often say that in a sentence - Po
08:08 realizes that it's his decisions that make him who he is, not his origins.
08:18 It's a scene loaded with strong feels, which sets up big emotions during Po's reunion
08:30 with his dad.
08:31 Cue all the tears.
08:45 Number 2.
08:46 Bridge Battle - Kung Fu Panda
08:49 Once Tai Lung breaks out, the Furious Five decides to intercept their former peer.
08:53 The Quintet confronts the Snow Leopard on a precarious rope bridge.
09:04 With the ropes cut, Tigress confronts Tai Lung in the middle while increasingly fewer
09:08 of her friends hold the structure up.
09:10 The sheer degree of creativity in this fight is incredible.
09:14 Tigress and Tai Lung fight on top of the bridge, underneath it, with it.
09:19 And when the other members of the Five get involved, their own unique styles and their
09:23 combination moves are just as great.
09:27 Tai Lung ultimately defeats the Five, but the fight they put up beforehand is one of
09:32 the best in the franchise.
09:41 Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions.
09:45 The Harbor Battle - Kung Fu Panda 2
09:48 This fight brings the fireworks.
09:58 Oogway and Kai's Battle - Kung Fu Panda 3
10:02 We love seeing the Tortoise Master in action.
10:17 Shen's Backstory - Kung Fu Panda 2
10:20 An intense tale told through stunning visuals.
10:34 Po in the Spirit Realm - Kung Fu Panda 3
10:37 Oogway and Po need more scenes together.
10:46 The Stuff of Legend - Kung Fu Panda
10:48 Po's dreams are the stuff dreams are made of.
10:51 The traditional animation is cool too.

11:17 Po Defeats Shen - Kung Fu Panda 2
11:22 Although Po's confrontation with Tai Lung is also worthy of mention, we feel that his
11:26 triumph over Shen is ultimately the best because it's personal.
11:40 Po faces down Shen's fleet.
11:43 Despite taking multiple cannonballs head-on, he manages to redirect them all, some of them
11:48 into Shen's ships.
12:00 On Shen's wrecked flagship, Po faces off against the Peacock himself.
12:04 Shen is incredulous that Po found inner peace, despite everything he did to him.
12:09 While their battle may not be the most impressive from a technical standpoint, it's arguably
12:13 the greatest from a character one.
12:26 Po is able to let go of the past and move forward, and Shen refuses to let go of his
12:31 mistakes, which ultimately proves to be his undoing.
12:35 We have chills.
12:37 Is there a Kung Fu Panda moment you found totally awesome but were disappointed we left
12:41 out?
