00:02 >> What was the design on that last play?
00:07 >> Yeah, basically I got it, went to Trey, Vic was supposed to set a screen.
00:15 They ended up switching it and kind of doubling it, so I passed it to Vic.
00:19 And it was like they stunted at Vic and Trey was wide open in the corner.
00:22 I've seen Trey knock down that shot multiple times.
00:26 Told him keep his head up cuz at the end of the day, he's wide open,
00:28 shoot the ball, and that's a good look for us.
00:29 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:33 >> What was the key to your hot night tonight, 34?
00:37 >> I mean, I think just staying aggressive.
00:39 I think there's times when I might miss two or three shots and not shy away and
00:43 don't be aggressive.
00:44 And at the end of the day, the team needs me to be aggressive.
00:46 So my coaches, I say this all the time, my coaches and
00:49 teammates always put me in positions.
00:52 And Trey was firing me today, Vic, KJ, Jeremy, everybody was firing me tonight.
00:57 And when somebody got the hot hand like that, you just gotta find them and
01:00 feed them, and that's what they were doing.
01:01 >> Did you, from that Memphis game, you said you watched the film.
01:05 Was there anything that you saw in that that kinda helped you tonight?
01:08 >> Yeah, like I said, I don't know if I wanna get the secrets out though.
01:12 [LAUGH] >> But it helped.
01:15 >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, it definitely helped.
01:17 I just feel like certain times when I'm getting denied or
01:20 whatever the case may be, I just gotta be more aggressive to put myself into plays
01:23 and not just allow the defense to deny me the whole time.
01:26 >> Still on that last possession, you wanted to take it.
01:32 >> Yeah, I definitely wanted to get the shot, of course.
01:34 I'm not even gonna sit here and be like I didn't wanna get it.
01:36 But I mean, if it was perfect, it would have happened.
01:40 And that's not the NBA, that's not basketball.
01:42 So I mean, I feel like I made a good read to Vic.
01:46 Somebody's standing at Vic, Trey's wide open in the corner.
01:49 And we got a good look.
01:50 I mean, shoot, Giannis, we lived with Giannis shooting two threes back to back,
01:53 and he hit him.
01:55 So I mean, I would live with Giannis shooting those threes compared to him
01:58 getting to the basket every time.
02:00 >> What was it like getting Trey to that start tonight?
02:03 What kind of vibe did he bring to that start?
02:05 >> Man, it's huge.
02:07 Trey brings a different energy.
02:10 When we're on transition, he's always looking up and just trying to find others.
02:15 I mean, he knows when and where to find you.
02:19 Just a true point guard, and the energy he brings on both ends of the court is huge
02:23 for us, and I already knew he was gonna have a good game.
02:25 So shout out Trey, and if he sees us, keep it set up, cuz that's a good shot.
02:30 >> When you think about the future of this team,
02:32 what did it mean to have your 19 year old, I guess 20 year old team now,
02:36 kinda go toe to toe and make plays against an MVP like this?
02:40 >> Man, that last block kinda set it off for me.
02:43 I mean, they were going back and forth all game.
02:45 Giannis don't swing, Vic don't swing.
02:46 He only gets an and one, and he gets an and one, and he gets a three.
02:49 I mean, they were going back and forth all game, but
02:51 Vic showed the courage and heart that he had.
02:52 Cuz at the end of the day, Giannis, he wanted to try and dunk it at the end and
02:56 send a statement.
02:57 I think Vic sent a statement not only to Giannis, but to the whole league that
03:01 he's here and he's ready for the moment.
03:03 >> Not that y'all haven't been in close games before, but
03:07 do nights like these, games like these give you, especially with Vic in
03:11 the building now, does this give you a taste of something that y'all might be
03:15 looking forward to in the future?
03:18 >> Yeah, for sure.
03:20 We're trying to compete every game.
03:23 Us learning off this game, watching film and
03:25 seeing areas to where we could have did better.
03:29 Got maybe a better shot or got a stop or whatever.
03:33 That changes the game.
03:36 We only lost by three points, but if we got three stops,
03:39 it could be a totally different game.
03:40 If we would have got three more buckets, it would have been a totally different game.
03:42 So I'm just learning that, and we're gonna be good.
03:46 >> The last time you had a game like this,
03:48 obviously you guys were on the other side of this, beating the Lakers.
03:51 For you, what is the difference there between those two nights?
03:54 And what are the next steps for you and for this team?
03:57 >> Winning.
03:58 I could have 30, 40, 50, 60.
04:00 If we don't win, it really don't matter.
04:02 So at the end of the day, we just gotta win.
04:05 That's a great game from everybody.
04:08 I mean, everybody played their butts off.
04:09 And like I said, a couple plays here, a couple plays there,
04:12 it could have been a different game.
04:13 So we just gotta watch and film and learn and learn how to close out a game.
04:17 >> Vic had to play right through the alley-oop to himself.
04:21 Do you wanna tell us that you did the same thing later in the game?
04:23 >> [LAUGH] >> No, I didn't think about that one.
04:27 Vic was crazy cuz his hit the rim too.
04:31 I was like, nah, he ain't gonna catch it.
04:32 And then he still caught it.
04:33 I said, yeah, he's crazy for that.
04:34 Then KJ, go baseline, reverse windmill.
04:37 I'm like, okay, everybody dunking today.
04:39 So it was only right I got one, right?
04:41 [LAUGH] >> You've been around Vic for six,
04:45 seven months now.
04:46 As much as he likes to say he brings it every night,
04:49 do you sense that the back and forth he had with Giannis kind of brings something extra?
04:53 >> Yeah, I mean, he's a competitor and he wants to win and he wants to compete.
04:56 So when we're playing against the best, he wants to show that he's here and
05:00 he belongs.
05:00 And that's the type of, we're not backing down from nobody.
05:04 So from one to five, that's how it is.
05:06 And he just showed today, he ain't backing down.
05:09 >> Would you say that it's more not backing down or
05:11 he wants to prove, does he wanna prove something to Giannis or
05:13 prove something to everybody?
05:15 >> I think just prove it to the league.
05:17 I mean, I just say it like that.
05:20 And I think he's proving himself to the league right now,
05:22 especially even on minutes restriction for sure.
05:24 >> You mentioned a few highlight plays and after yours,
05:27 I noticed you kind of turned to the bench.
05:28 There was an exchange of positive energy.
05:30 Was this sort of one of those nights where it was like, when we have good energy,
05:33 we play well and then we have good energy and then we play better?
05:36 >> Yeah, I think we just gotta keep feeding off that.
05:38 There's a lot of teams in the league where when people are having good games or
05:43 it's hype, that bench is going crazy.
05:45 And we just gotta keep feeding off that, whether we get excited cuz Vic got a dunk
05:48 or Trey hit a three or Kelton got a dunk, whatever the case may be.
05:51 We just gotta feed off that energy.
05:53 We're a young group and we should have the most energy in the league every game.
05:56 So that's something that we just gotta keep building off of.
06:00 >> All those things considered, Dev, even in a loss,
06:03 might this be as well as you guys have played collectively all year long?
06:06 >> Good question.
06:08 I mean, this was a good game.
06:11 I gotta go back and really watch and see what areas we could improve in.
06:14 But I mean, I think it was a great game all around,
06:16 just couldn't come out with the dub.
06:17 >> Thanks, Dev.
06:19 >> [LAUGH]
