00:00 Three days after an attack police have described as horrendous, officers moved in on their
00:07 suspect.
00:09 To break into a nursing home you are only going to find vulnerable people living there.
00:14 So it beggars belief that someone would do this.
00:17 Police allege 29 year old Hayden Carl Skinner placed a stocking over his face and gained
00:23 access to a Coffs Harbour aged care home through a courtyard in the early hours of New Year's
00:28 Day. He's then accused of entering the room of a 76 year old woman and sexually assaulting
00:33 her. Police say she fought back, kicking her attacker in the groin and scratching his face.
00:39 Physically she has bruises and scratches. She's well supported by family but as you
00:45 can understand an attack like this in the security of your own bed is very difficult
00:50 to come to terms with.
00:52 People in the area have been shocked by the allegations.
00:55 We heard and saw a few deputies and obviously detectives the past few days and whatnot so
01:01 I guess hearing more about it was pretty, pretty confronting today.
01:05 This street isn't known for that sort of thing. There's quite good people living in this street.
01:11 The nursing home emailed residents and their families on New Year's Day detailing increased
01:17 security and the support it was making available.
01:20 In a statement the aged care facility said it's working closely with police and is grateful
01:26 for their swift action, support and cooperation. Those with loved ones there have told the
01:31 ABC they're reassured by the home's response to the incident.
01:35 The alleged offender did not apply for bail and the case will return to court on Monday.
01:40 on Monday.
