00:00 Big flakes are falling tonight just outside of New York City.
00:03 While it's mixing in with rain, the combination is leaving a thick, slick layer on some surfaces,
00:10 like this parking lot.
00:12 With snow starting to fall mid to late afternoon Saturday, it melted on contact in many spots.
00:18 Puddles developed on sidewalks.
00:20 Roadways turned wet.
00:21 I could hear the pitter-patter of rain mixing in with snow on my car.
00:26 New York's Department of Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch tells me they'll be spreading
00:30 salt on roadways until the snow and rain stop in the Big Apple.
00:34 There hasn't been a significant snowfall in the boroughs and adjacent communities in nearly
00:39 two years, and some kids are still reminiscing about playing in the snow.

00:48 Last time it snowed, we actually went out in front of our building and we had played
00:54 in the snow.
00:55 We had a snowball fight and we built snowmen.
00:58 It was the children against the adults and I'm really excited because I want it to happen
01:06 again.
01:07 It's important to remember winter weather can cause slippery conditions.
01:10 Remember to slow down and keep an eye on your surroundings to keep you and other travelers
01:15 safe.
01:16 For AccuWeather, I'm Jillian Angelin.
