It’s still going to be some time before the James Bond movies find a new face to present to the public. The scrum of actors looking to test for this role of a lifetime is beginning to comment to the press just what their 00-hopes and dreams would look like. Asteroid City’s Rupert Friend is one of the latest potential candidates to do so, and in a recent chat, he shared with me what his ideal portrayal of 007 would feel like.

Meanwhile, his co-star and Bond veteran Jeffrey Wright has told us why he’s excited for Friend to potentially land the role, and both of these men have me even more excited for the future.

00:00 "Rupert, I would be a fool to let you go without talking about James Bond with you,
00:03 because you've made recent remarks about not only turning down the Casino Royale edition,
00:08 but now feeling you have like the bruises and the scars to do the role. So on the continuum of
00:13 Roger Moore to Timothy Dalton, where would you think your Bond would land, hypothetically?"
00:17 Oh, that's the spread?
00:20 Yeah, like more sort of being like the more camp, more jokey side, like sort of the more humoristic
00:25 versus Dalton who was very straightforward with Fleming. I mean, to me, it's Connery. That's
00:31 the greatest Bond of all time. It's somewhere between the danger and the twinkle. It's not ham
00:36 and it's not overly serious. It's somewhere in the middle. And it's, as I said, danger with a
00:41 twinkle. That's Connery just nailed it. What would you think of a Rupert Freeman James Bond?
00:46 I'm down with that. Rupert's a wonderful actor, super dashing guy, lovely guy,
00:53 kind of trustworthy, has a trustworthiness about him. I think I'd vote for Rupert. Yeah, rock and
01:00 roll.
