00:00 There is an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis in Baguio City.
00:04 This is the first news of Jasmine Gabriel Galvan of GMA Regional TV, One North Central Luzon.
00:09 I would like to officially declare that we have an outbreak of gastroenteritis.
00:18 That declaration was made by the Mayor of Baguio City,
00:21 just after the unusual diarrhea cases in the city, according to their health service office.
00:27 To date, 1,602 cases of food and waterborne diseases have been reported in the city of Pines.
00:34 More than 200 establishments and 80 houses are affected.
00:38 14 members of the Kirubin family were infected from Rizal and visited Baguio last holiday season.
00:46 They were brought to the hospital after experiencing nausea, stomach pain and vomiting.
00:51 According to Mary Grace, they climbed to Baguio on January 5 and ate in a food establishment.
00:57 They were given service water.
01:00 They were still required to go to the hospital but they were able to go home.
01:03 However, the pain of some of them did not end there.
01:06 It's hard to go home.
01:07 Our trip was long, almost four hours.
01:11 We reached home in five hours because all of the staff members were over there.
01:14 We stopped.
01:15 Some of the patients were from Itogon, Tuba and Latinidad,
01:20 who ate in another food establishment in Baguio City.
01:23 According to Mayor Magalong, he and some of his relatives and friends were also infected by diarrhea.
01:29 The local government held an emergency meeting due to the continued increase in the number of cases of diarrhea.
01:35 The investigation of the City Health Services Office is extensive and in-depth.
01:39 The first thing that is being looked at is the possible contamination of water.
01:42 More than three establishments and houses will get water samples for water testing.
01:48 We will be up on our toes and doing a lot of water testing.
01:53 Actually, we are now, from the meeting with the mayor this morning,
02:00 we are now partnering with the BCPO to help us also do the water testing as fast as we can
02:06 so that we can screen the water and if it's positive, then we will now subject it to bacteriological examination.
02:14 The medical facilities in the city are ready in case the number of cases of diarrhea increases.
02:19 I think the hospitals can accommodate it since they don't usually stay in hospitals.
02:25 So you are just an OPD?
02:26 Yes, we are just an OPD.
02:28 Until Friday, the results of the water tests are expected to be released.
02:32 But while the results are not yet released, drinking water from the tap is temporarily prohibited.
02:39 This is the first news. Jasmine Gabriel Galvan of One North Central Luzon for GMA Integrated News.
