For many millions, Sir David Suchet is – and always will be – the definitive Poirot.
It’s a role he looks back on with enormous pride in an evening of reminiscences entitled Poirot And More: A Retrospective coming to Hastings White Rock Theatre on Wednesday, January 31 (0343 310 0031) and to Guildford’s GLive on Thursday, February 15 (0343 310 0055).

00:00 Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. It's an
00:04 enormous pleasure this morning to be speaking to Sir David Suchet, who is on the road with
00:09 Retrospective talking about your career, talking about the things you've done, but also hugely
00:14 talking about Poirot. And you're coming to Guildford, you're coming to Hastings, it's
00:19 Poirot and more. Now Poirot, you just must feel such pride at that part of your career.
00:26 I do. I'm excited to go out on the road. I've done this tour before earlier, and a number
00:34 of areas of Great Britain and the United Kingdom said, you never visited us. That's the reason
00:42 for this tour, UK tour, it's the best part of two months. And I'm looking forward so
00:47 much to coming to Guildford and to Hastings because actually, I relate a very amusing
00:52 story of what happened when I was filming in Hastings. So I hope the audiences come,
00:59 they won't be offended, but I think they'll be very amused at what happens to me in Hastings.
01:04 I shan't ask you to give that away. But the wider context is the fact, as you're saying,
01:10 that Poirot has never been more popular and it's 10 years since you finished filming,
01:14 the popularity has increased. Is it because you absolutely were accurate and authentic
01:21 and you were Christie's Poirot, weren't you?
01:24 Yes. And that's what I really wanted to be. Because when I first started reading the books
01:31 for the role, I realised that this little man that I was reading had never been portrayed
01:38 on the big screen. And that was my aim.
01:43 Hugely lovely to speak to you.
01:45 It's lovely to speak to you.
01:46 Thank you very much for your time.
01:47 A great pleasure. Thank you.
01:48 Thank you.
