00:00 We saw that two days ago, Mazaher Ali Akbar Naqvi resigned and today Supreme Court Senior Judge Justice Aijaz-ul-Ahsan has resigned.
00:08 Sir, what reasons do you think are there?
00:11 First of all, it is a very sad news because Supreme Court of Pakistan is an ultimate arbiter where decisions reach their logical conclusion.
00:20 And for a judge there to resign without any reason, which we can see, is a very sad thing.
00:27 And in such a situation, I think, which is visible, that the affairs of the Supreme Court, the way they were being carried out,
00:34 the way Chief Justice was running them, they might not have agreed with that.
00:38 And in that, one thing was revealed, that a Supreme Judicial Council case, a few minutes before that, they wrote letters to each other,
00:45 in which a little discussion was seen. So I think this is a very sad thing.
00:49 And I can tell Aijaz-ul-Ahsan sir because I started my lawyer with him and did all the work with him.
00:56 He is a very good man, a very capable man, from a foreign qualified cornel, and a self-made man.
01:04 And his departure from the Supreme Court, or his leaving from the Supreme Court, is a big loss for Pakistan.
01:10 Because a judge, he does not have only a constitutional side, that he has to decide on the constitution of the country.
01:15 Along with that, he has a civil side, a commercial side.
01:18 And undoubtedly, at this time, in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, I think that Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Aijaz sir,
01:23 are among the two most capable judges. And if they have to go like this, then I think it is a big loss for Pakistan.
01:30 Rest, now whatever the underlying factors of this are, whatever we can do, we can do.
01:33 So Ahmed sir, what do you think, that there was some mishandling, some misunderstandings, which became the reason for all this?
01:39 I think that the way the affairs of the Supreme Court are being run, and yes, in the Supreme Court,
01:46 because before this, the allegation was that we are making a thought-bench, and this and that happens.
01:51 At this time, if you see, there are specific benches, which are listening to the cases.
01:55 I am not used to this kind of commentary. I respect all the judges as much as I respect a single judge.
02:01 But still, if you sideline the judges, and do not give them a chance, then eventually this will happen,
02:07 that the Chief Justice in the making of Pakistan, has to resign.
02:11 And in October, he was about to become the Chief Justice.
02:14 This is a very important thing. Chief Justice of Pakistan should put a detailed inquiry on this,
02:19 that why is he such a senior judge? I mean, no one resigns at this stage.
02:23 Every person, every lawyer, has the ambition to become a judge, and then become the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
02:29 Now, if he is leaving it at this stage, then this matter has to be seen.
02:32 And if, somehow, this matter, God forbid, goes against him, or goes against the law,
02:35 then in both ways, the investigation is very important.
02:38 Because otherwise, this stigma will remain on Pakistan.
02:41 And the way that the judges are being ridiculed on social media,
02:45 especially those judges, who are not linked to the Chief Justice,
02:49 that now, next in the making, another person will resign, and this sort of thing.
02:53 This is not appropriate. The Supreme Court District of Pakistan is divided.
02:57 And this will not benefit Pakistan in the longer run.
03:00 Today, we may be very happy with this. Some parties may be very happy with this.
03:03 But in the longer run, this will become a source of harm for Pakistan.
03:08 And the harm of Pakistan is a harm for all of us.
