00:00 "Mikaela's lies have cost me $10,000."
00:04 TikToker Mikaela Noguera is being called out online.
00:07 One TikTok user claimed that the beauty guru promised to give a review of his product,
00:10 but never actually did, costing him thousands.
00:13 Illusion Bronze CEO Matthew Stevens took to TikTok when he believed that notable lifestyle
00:21 content creator Mikaela Noguera deceived him of giving an honest review of his product.
00:25 In a viral video, Stevens details how he stocked up on the product when a potential review
00:30 would drop to hopefully garner massive sales, but it never actually happened.
00:34 It's Anil Wani reporting.
00:35 Now, in this video that has nearly 3 million views online, Stevens details how he recently
00:39 created a unique and brilliant self-tanner that has 125 shades that match customers based
00:45 on their eye color, hair color, and skin tone.
00:48 As of late, a major beauty competitor, as Stevens claims, was targeting his fan base
00:51 and attempting to take his potential customers.
00:53 "After seeing I had gone viral with my concept, this brand put a quiz on their website asking
00:58 people for their eye color, hair color, and skin tone, and they would suggest one of four
01:03 colors.
01:04 So it basically cheapened and simplified my idea, obviously, because I have 125 customizable
01:09 colors."
01:10 Stevens at first thought it was a coincidence that a new product was coming up on the scene,
01:13 but when they started targeting those creators who had already reviewed his product, he knew
01:17 something was a bit fishy.
01:18 "I convinced myself that it was a coincidence, but there were a few girls who went viral
01:22 from reviewing my product that were genuine, authentic reviews.
01:25 And this multi-million dollar brand went after them, paying them to do reviews of their brand
01:30 and mention the things that were unique about my product, but instead say it about theirs."
01:36 From there, Stevens made a video asking Nagiera to review his very own product.
01:40 He claims just four short days later, she reviewed his competitor online, who only had
01:44 their product out on the market for a mere six months.
01:46 "Not that I was blaming her.
01:48 I didn't think it was her fault.
01:50 But I thought, 'Wow, this company has already gone after the small influencers who blew
01:54 up my brand and paid them.
01:57 They must have seen my video to Mikaela and now paid her too.'"
02:00 Now after some time, the two were able to get in contact with the beauty guru, saying
02:03 that the situation was merely a coincidence.
02:06 In October, Nagiera sent multiple messages back and forth with Stevens, and the two even
02:10 hopped on a phone call, where she claims she would never intentionally try to hurt a small
02:13 business and promised she would actually do a review of his product.
02:16 "For a second I really thought, 'Wow, maybe this misunderstanding is turning into a friendship.'
02:22 Well in October she told me she was posting it ASAP, and then two months passed by.
02:29 I really just had grieved the idea and moved forward.
02:33 I was like, 'Damn, it's unfortunate that she really is the person that people say she
02:38 is.'"
02:39 Now after those months and several fans asking for a review on her profile, Mikaela messaged
02:42 Stevens in December, claiming she would be posting the video the next day.
02:46 "Mikaela texted me almost immediately, 'I don't know if you mentioned me or something
02:49 somewhere, but I'm getting so many comments about trying the tanner and I'm actually using
02:53 it this weekend.'
02:54 She says, 'I'll be posting a video about it tomorrow, December 7th.'"
03:00 And yes, Stevens said he took out a $10,000 loan with Shopify to stock up on the product
03:04 for the review, which never came.
03:07 "Refreshing my TikTok feed, and when she finally posted, she clearly had a tan on, but it was
03:14 hideous.
03:15 Talking like, beyond orange."
03:18 Mikaela posted photos and claimed she had tried the product, but Stevens didn't believe
03:22 it.
03:23 Mikaela claimed she tried the product and slept in it for many hours, but Stevens claimed
03:26 she actually got a spray tan and lied to him.
03:28 The founder told Nagiera how much product he had at his house and really how much he
03:32 was stressed about the situation, in which she responded saying she would review the
03:36 product.
03:37 Yet after New Year's Eve and the months of January passing by, with Stevens seeing multiple
03:40 spray tans from the artist, she never actually did end up posting a video.
03:44 Stevens said Mikaela blocked and commented back on people who requested the Illusion
03:47 Bronze review on her profile.
03:49 There has been no public comment from Stevens or Nagiera on the matter as of this time.
