Marvan Atapattu, Atapattu made his test debut in November 1990, scoring ducks in his first two innings. He was dropped from the team, and he returned to first-class cricket, waiting for another chance. After 21 months, he got a second opportunity but couldn't make an impact, scoring 0 and 1 in his second test. Despite setbacks, Marvan persisted, scoring heavily in first-class cricket. 17 months later, he got another chance but failed again scoring zero in both innings. Despite selectors' criticism, he continued trying. 3 years later, he finally succeeded, embarking on an illustrious career, amassing over 14,000 runs, including 16 centuries out of which 6 were double centuries for Sri Lanka.
