WHO Technical Lead on Covid-19, Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, says that globally there are still around 10,000 deaths from Covid-19 reported each month. She stresses that this numer reflects data from 50 countries and that the actual number is probably higher, due to other countries not reporting deaths.

00:00 We still have around 10,000 deaths per month.
00:03 And that's only data from 50 countries.
00:07 Among those 10,000 deaths reported in December,
00:10 more than half were reported from the United States of America,
00:13 a thousand from Italy.
00:16 So we are missing
00:18 deaths in countries from around the world
00:20 because countries aren't reporting deaths doesn't mean that they're not happening.
00:23 By the end of 2023, 31st of December, more than seven million people
00:29 have been reported to WHO as having died from COVID-19.
00:34 We know that that number is certainly higher.
00:37 So we expect that the actual true number is at least three times higher.
00:43 So those seven million deaths are COVID only,
00:46 which is truly astonishing.
