00:00 We're back at CES, one of the world's largest tech conventions.
00:03 And this year, we've seen everything from wild car concepts to robots that clean up
00:07 spilled milk, accessibility tech that will make everyday tasks easier for a whole host
00:11 of folks, and of course, lots and lots of TVs.
00:15 But only a few products really stuck out to us in this year's show.
00:18 So here are our picks for the best of CES 2024.
00:26 Here's what I want to take home from Vegas this year, a Hyundai Ioniq 5 with wheels that
00:30 do this.
00:31 It's easily the best thing I saw at CES 2024, because everyone hates parallel parking, and
00:38 this solves it with a snap of a finger.
00:39 Oh, and no more getting stuck in parking lots with no way to turn around?
00:43 No more swerving around highway obstacles, perhaps?
00:46 I don't want a TV or monitor from CES, I just want these wheels.
00:49 It's called the Hyundai Mobi's e-corner system.
00:52 While they haven't quite tested it at speeds over 50 miles per hour yet, the chief engineer
00:56 told me he's got a couple of years to get to freeway speeds before they take this amazing
01:00 prototype to market.
01:01 Cars should arrive as soon as 2028.
01:04 He even claims it shouldn't cost much more than an ordinary steering system.
01:08 They'll be marketing it to automakers globally, not just Hyundai.
01:11 It is only for EVs, and I think EV makers are going to have a tough conversation about
01:16 whether they're willing to ship cars that don't have sports car speeds in order to get
01:20 these amazing wheels.
01:22 The biggest and most important trend in the smart home is smart energy.
01:27 Smart lighting is fun and useful, robot vacuums are life-changing, and who doesn't love a
01:31 smart toilet?
01:33 But what makes it worth connecting all the things is smart energy management.
01:38 Enter the Delta Pro Ultra, a whole home battery generator, and its pal, the smart home panel
01:45 2.
01:46 With these two gadgets, you can keep the lights on when the power goes out, and the system
01:51 can intelligently manage the loads in your home to help save you money and energy.
01:56 There are a few similar options on the market today, and they're all excellent systems,
02:00 but what I really like about the EcoFlow is that it's really simple to install.
02:04 You just need an electrician to hook it up.
02:06 And it can also double as a portable generator, so you can power your RV or off-grid cabin
02:12 in the woods.
02:14 It's also modular, so you can start small and slightly more affordably, and build up
02:19 to a whole home power management solution.
02:22 This is a real shift in what's possible for home energy management, making it easier and
02:26 more practical, something everyone can benefit from.
02:29 There are a lot of OLED monitors at CES this year, but one really stood out to me.
02:35 Dell's Alienware AW3225QF, what a name, has a Samsung Quantum Dot OLED panel for 240Hz
02:44 high refresh rate 4K gaming.
02:47 It's a 32-inch glossy OLED monitor with a slight 1700R curve and an anti-reflective
02:53 coating.
02:54 32 inches is the ideal 4K monitor size to me personally.
02:58 I'm not an ultrawide fan, and I've gotten used to using a curved 32-inch monitor for
03:02 years to play competitive and single-player games.
03:06 I'm personally looking forward to an OLED upgrade for the response times, the image
03:10 quality and of course, the motion performance.
03:14 Dell's 32-inch OLED monitor is also actually available to buy right now, priced at $1,199.
03:21 If you're worried about burning, there's a 3-year warranty that covers this.
03:25 There are also still lots of other OLED monitors on the way in 2024, but most don't have
03:30 firm release dates yet or pricing.
03:32 Still, I'm keeping my eye out for Asus' 32-inch 4K 240Hz OLED monitor that can also
03:39 double as a 480Hz 1080p OLED screen.
03:43 It looks like it's going to be a great year for OLED monitors.
03:47 So smart rings, there were a ton of them at CES this year, but my pick for best wearable
03:52 is the EV Ring by Movano.
03:55 It's a smart ring that's geared towards women's health.
03:58 The design is very clever.
04:01 It's got an open gap at the top, so when you are bloated or you're hormonal or your fingers
04:07 are just swollen for whatever reason, it's going to be easy to take off because like,
04:12 look, it's not coming off, right?
04:14 The other thing that I really like about Movano is how dedicated they are to accuracy.
04:20 The bonkers thing is that they don't actually need FDA clearance for the features on the
04:25 ring.
04:26 They're kind of flexing and saying, "Hey, we're so accurate that everything that we
04:30 have meets FDA standards.
04:32 You can trust us."
04:33 Accuracy is pretty important for health tracking, so I'm super excited to get one in to test.
04:39 My best pick for health tech is Dexcom's Stelo Continuous Glucose Monitor.
04:44 It's designed for people who have type 2 diabetes but don't need insulin, and it's meant for
04:49 them to have an affordable way to manage their condition and monitor their blood glucose
04:53 levels on a day-to-day.
04:55 So the combination of being affordable for people who don't have good insurance coverage
05:01 and also targeting a underserved population within that community, it's very cool.
05:07 It's getting FDA clearance now.
05:09 It's expected to ship later this year.
05:11 It's something that could positively affect the millions of people who have diabetes in
05:15 this country.
05:16 You'll have to see it.
05:17 So those are my two best of picks, and I'm really excited to review the EV ring.
05:23 And I'm also excited that people with type 2 diabetes who don't need insulin are about
05:28 to get a more affordable option.
05:30 So the best car to show this year are actually two different cars, and I'm lumping them together
05:35 for reasons that will become clear in just a second.
05:37 So the first is the Kia PV5, which is a futuristic modular electric vehicle that can change its
05:43 size, it can change its interior.
05:45 Take out the steering wheel, it becomes a robo-taxi.
05:48 Take out the back half of it, it becomes a mini electric truck.
05:51 Endless possibilities.
05:52 And the whole idea behind this is that Kia thinks that this is going to be perfect for
05:56 businesses, like ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft, all sorts of things are envisioned
06:01 as being some of the possibilities for the PV5.
06:03 In fact, Uber has already signed a deal with Kia to be one of the first customers for the
06:08 PV5 when it goes into production in 2025.
06:11 The second one I wanted to highlight is the Honda Space Hub, which is part of the new
06:15 Honda Zero Global EV series that was first announced at the show.
06:20 It's a boxy van type thing with no rear window, but plenty of glass to give passengers a panoramic
06:27 view of the outside world.
06:29 It's weird, it kind of looks like a vintage vacuum cleaner, but I think it has a lot of
06:33 potential.
06:34 Yeah, I think minivans are back, baby.
06:37 You know, I have no idea if either of these things are ever going to go into production
06:40 or how much they're going to cost, but as a middle-aged dad with two kids, I just love
06:46 seeing the minivan coming back into style.
06:48 Coming into CES, I was expecting a pretty slow year for TVs without any major news,
06:53 but what do you know?
06:54 It turned out to be a really fun show after all.
06:56 It seems like each year we see OLED TVs get brighter than we ever thought possible.
07:00 Mini LED TVs are everywhere.
07:02 We even saw some awesome projectors this year from LG, which has the retro, stylish Cinebeam
07:07 Cube, and Samsung's latest projectors can turn any surface you point them at into a
07:11 touchscreen.
07:13 Pretty nuts.
07:14 There were even a lot of good speakers thrown in this year.
07:16 Many of you were excited about Samsung's music frame, which looks like a picture on your
07:19 wall.
07:20 I think a lot of people love tech that just doesn't look like tech.
07:23 Now we can't talk about TVs at CES without talking about LG's OLED T. That's the transparent
07:28 TV that's made all the headlines this week.
07:31 I saw it up close and it's really cool.
07:33 And it's nice to see years of prototypes actually turn into a real TV you can buy this
07:37 year.
07:38 Supposedly.
07:39 But one question a lot of people had is "why?"
07:43 Who is this for?
07:44 Why do you want to see behind your TV?
07:47 And I still don't have a really great answer.
07:48 It's a hell of a trick, for sure, but outside of businesses and fancy doctor's offices or
07:53 advertising, I'm not sure regular consumers are going to have much interest in the OLED
07:57 T. Especially for the ungodly amount of money it's certain to cost.
08:02 So if you want a real TV for normal people that I'm excited about, that would be Samsung's
08:06 S95D QD OLED.
08:09 The reason is, this year Samsung gave the screen a glare-free treatment that gets rid
08:13 of basically any and all reflections.
08:16 Side by side on the show floor, the difference was super obvious when the S95D was next to
08:21 a semi-glossy OLED TV.
08:23 I'm all about these quality of life improvements.
08:25 They make a big difference.
08:27 My only wish, just like any Samsung TV, is that the S95D would support Dolby Vision.
08:33 Come on, Samsung.
08:34 How long are we going to keep doing this?
08:37 It was such a blast being back at CES this year.
08:41 One of my favorite demos was Sony's Afila car, not as a car, but as a theater system.
08:46 The speakers in there sound amazing, and there's speakers in the seat that rumble when something's
08:51 playing.
08:52 It was so cool, but it's supposed to be a car.
08:55 So TBD on how it performs on that front.
08:59 As a theater, though, it was pretty cool.
09:01 But what did you see that you love?
09:02 Drop a comment down below.
09:03 I'd love to hear your picks.
09:05 I'm Becca.
09:06 Thank you so much for watching.
09:07 I'll see you on the next one.
