00:00 Justin Cooper did well, Eli Tomac, it was back to work going through getting some more reps
00:06 Didn't have a whole lot to say about that return ride, but let's get back to work. Here we go
00:12 Heat two of the 450s in the mud, Oracle Park, San Francisco. What's this one got in store?
00:18 Inside, good start
00:26 Hunter Lawrence as they all sort themselves out in the mud, Lawrence and Plessinger, Plessinger to the front
00:32 He was the quickest qualifier, the cowboy and the crowd love it that he's out in front
00:37 Ah, these guys going for it. Why are they going for it? Because they want clear vision
00:42 It is such an advantage to get out front early. Aaron Plessinger fastest in practice
00:47 It's the first time he's ever done that aboard the 450 in their premier class and he is on it
00:54 Last week, he had a really solid heat in Anaheim and in the main
00:59 He said I basically forgot how to get through turn one in the main and I was as low as tenth
01:04 I worked my way back up to a really solid result
01:08 He ended up finishing top four
01:10 Which was great and then you should have seen him earlier today folks when he got that quickest qualifier spot
01:16 He was fist pumping the air. He was jacked. It meant a lot. He has found his mojo in 2024
01:23 Well, you're using those long legs to his advantage for sure when he sits down on that bike
01:28 And he needs to put his legs down. Boom. They touch easy. He's able to keep his balance when he's not standing up
01:35 Will, what you got?
01:38 Lee, you said he's comfortable on this bike and I'll tell you exactly how comfortable according to the Red Bull KTM team
01:45 Ian Harrison, their team manager, was saying earlier to me that Aaron is this kind of wonderful
01:51 Complement right now to chase Sexton. They've obviously been having to do a lot of work with Sexton joining the team
01:55 Well AP has been happy and has barely touched his bike since the beginning of December
02:01 And he said all that lovely energy that Aaron has all that positive feedback and just he said it's made such a lovely
02:06 Balance to the team and he thinks if he gets a win tonight here if it can happen for him
02:11 Then it'll really kick start this season for him
02:13 Well, you could that's a sign of a rider that is comfortable with this bike when he doesn't have to make
02:18 Adjustments to the bottom of the screen right there Dylan Ferrandez number 14 on that Phoenix Honda. It's gonna make the pass
02:23 Well, hold on to it
02:26 On Honda Lawrence through the whoops on hunter-lunar Lawrence through the whoops. You get that inside line there
02:33 I kind of like that because I feel it's easier to
02:35 Easier to get going through the whoops through that inside. It's able to eat easier to keep your balance. Excuse me
02:42 It was a it was a tough pill to swallow last weekend for Honda Lawrence
02:49 From his heat troubles going down turn one lap one to then being forced to go on the LCQ and he missed out by
02:56 One spot there was a mad scrap to the end with Kate Clayson and Kate got that final transfer spot
03:03 So Honda had to go home and not compete in his first
03:06 450 Monster Energy Supercross main and and he watched his little brother go on and win it, but we know that he's resilient
03:13 He's a tough customer and he's bouncing back beautifully here running third behind Dylan Ferrandez
03:18 Dylan had a good run last weekend top five in his first ride about aboard this Phoenix Honda, right?
03:24 Great ride for Dylan last week. I feel like if he was able to get a better start
03:28 He could have challenged up there for the podium for sure. But these guys are so close. Oh
03:32 Yeah, it goes off the track right there
03:34 He just kind of got stuck into a rut and lost his balance went to the right runners up the inside
03:40 Oh look at Dylan closes the door gets darts to the left-hand side of the track to catch that inside rut
03:47 You caught a quick glimpse there of the 21 the factory
03:50 Kawasaki the Monster Energy Kawasaki of Jason Anderson runner up last weekend in Anaheim
03:55 It was a really good ride by Alhambra
03:57 Then behind him is Malcolm Stewart Malcolm came on strong in his return ride last week
04:03 How the Lawrence is off the track and now rejoins he skipped the whoops completely
04:08 One thing that I want everyone to consider which is going to be huge
04:11 Especially in the main events that is going to be one of the keys tonight to success is bike preservation
04:18 You have to be mindful what I mean by that
04:20 These bikes will run hot in the mud like this the mud sticks to the bikes
04:25 The radiators aren't getting that much ventilation
04:28 So these things have a tendency to overheat and how does that happen to also riding them using your clutch a lot?
04:34 So these guys are gonna have to be mindful and in a situation like this and stay off of that clutch and keep that engine
04:40 Temp down as much as possible JT
04:42 Well, I totally agree with that and you look at riders like for Andis Hunter Lawrence and Jason Anderson who are squarely in this main event
04:49 Maybe they're not winning but there's a there's a fine line between taking risk and you saw Hunter Lawrence off the track
04:54 You saw Dylan Fran is willingly go off the track
04:56 You basically want to do anything but go down or harm your motorcycle in this heat race because the absolute last thing you want to
05:02 Do is end up in LCQ like Hunter Lawrence did last week
05:05 So if it doesn't seem like they're pushing the edge or taking a lot of chances
05:09 They're probably not first and foremost. They just want to get into this main event
05:12 Well one rider who is looking straight at the LCQ is Cooper Webb's teammate Justin Cooper Cooper is way back in
05:20 17th position meanwhile Webb keeps getting better and faster. This is what happened to Hunter Lawrence. Remember I said he missed the whoops
05:26 This is the reason why yeah, those things are just so tricky. We keep talking about it
05:31 We'll be talking about it all night long, but these are the best guys in the business right there
05:36 Hunter Lawrence and he's got great technique great balance on the motorcycle and even he is
05:42 Struggling through that loop section because of the treacherous conditions
05:47 How about a little further back and in an immediate transfer position
05:54 Aboard the 52 the Toyota Redlands bar X Suzuki Derek Drake last weekend was his first ride in the 450 class
06:03 In Monster Energy Supercross Derek made it to the main event
06:07 Finished 15th, and he is in an all automatic transfer again. He's just ahead of Austin Politelli. There is Derek Drake nice
06:14 This is a great story
06:16 This guy has had some significant health challenges in recent years
06:21 Only to get back to full fitness and health and just show how skillful and resilient he is
06:26 Really good ride last weekend, and he's just building on it in extra challenging conditions. Yeah superb and
06:32 To get through this to get through this heat race transfer not have to go to the LCQ
06:37 He'll be able to rest up his mechanics and team will be able to do some prep to that
06:42 Motorcycle before that main event and little things like that
06:46 Help out so much in nights like this when the conditions are this way by the way while we've been watching so many things
06:54 happen
06:56 Look at this well he too goes on the heat one winner Jorge Prado is celebrating isn't that fantastic
07:05 It's a heat win, but it feels like a main event win
07:11 That's mom and dad they're celebrating with him. That's awesome, and that just oh is he back off again
07:18 Under Lawrence has decided he doesn't like the whoops
07:20 He got thrown off. I guess again
07:24 I would say if you've taken the same line
07:26 And you keep going off the track you might want to divert and try a different line because that line isn't working for you
07:31 That's twice now. He's went off course so I think something happened to Plessing a Plessing
07:36 I had a whopping lead and it's been chopped in half more than that as for Andis is within three seconds well
07:42 But you never know to leave they're getting into lap riders, and you might be saving as up
07:46 Here comes for Andis for Andis has caught the race leader for Andis has gone past the race leader
07:54 Or has he the cowboy comes back?
07:57 Plessing it says hang on a minute. I'm the fastest qualifier. I want to be the heat winner
08:03 I might get jammed up by these lappers Aaron Plessing you there number seven on that red bull KTM
08:08 Dylan's going for it to check and flag in sight. They're so close the wolf
08:15 Plusing it gets sideways and loses the lead
08:19 How about that Dylan for Andis and the Phoenix Honda was there to pounce and here comes web?
08:26 Cooper web the former teammates are side-by-side and in just his second race weekend aboard his new ride
08:33 Dylan for Andis
08:36 Who has never won a heat in?
08:39 His 450 supercross career. He's an outdoor champion remember that shows. I need a 250 supercross champion
08:47 Yeah, two-time, but he's never won a 450 heat tonight could be the night in the most
08:52 Just
08:55 Ugly conditions and there it is well done Dylan for Andis
08:59 He told us before the season even started he loves this Honda
09:03 Web and Plessing again are going at it for second and webs gonna get there. Oh
09:08 Hold on to it. He over jumped
09:11 Front end springs back up. I'm wondering Aaron Plessinger had bike issues. He had a command lead
09:19 And it just goes backwards
