00:00 Well, we're very disappointed.
00:05 I wish we could have played so much better than we did tonight.
00:09 Every ounce of credit goes to Iowa.
00:14 They were terrific.
00:17 And their crowd was terrific, the energy in the building.
00:22 We felt like that first half, even just turned it over way too much,
00:34 but in spite of all of our turnovers, still felt decent about the score at halftime.
00:40 We're down 3, and then of course Kate does, hits the 3 to put them up by 6.
00:46 But at that point we thought we were doing a pretty decent job.
00:49 We were just turning the ball over too much, but we were still in the game.
00:53 And then we come out and we give Kate the backdoor layup,
00:58 and then all of a sudden you turn around, you're down 9.
01:02 And so from there it just kind of got out of control.
01:07 And they were, like I said, clicking on all cylinders, all of them.
01:15 Shot the ball really well tonight.
01:19 And we just weren't very good.
01:23 And I'd love to be able to give you reasons why that was.
01:29 We looked out of sorts, I thought, offensively.
01:32 Certainly didn't do what we needed to do on not Kate, but the rest of those guys.
01:39 Molly Davis to have 18 points.
01:43 You know, just things like that.
01:45 You know that Kate's probably going to get her average,
01:47 but you don't want to let those other guys have big nights.
01:52 And unfortunately we let too many of them have their way with us.
01:57 So all the credit goes to Iowa.
01:59 Great, great, great team.
02:01 Well coached.
02:02 Lisa does a tremendous job.
02:05 And like you said, we're very disappointed that we weren't better tonight.
02:09 Coach, how challenging was the last 48 hours as far as the travel and all that?
02:13 And how much did that maybe play in?
02:15 Well, you know, again, we're not going to use that as an excuse.
02:20 It's different because it's, you know,
02:22 just different in terms of how you normally travel,
02:25 but that's not the excuse of why we lost the game.
02:27 I mean, we got here, you know, plenty of time to have a shoot around,
02:33 plenty of time to get back to the hotel and, you know, have a pregame meal
02:38 and kind of be in our routine.
02:40 And so the travel piece of it, although, you know, frustrating, you know,
02:48 certainly you don't want to be out of your element, was not the reason.
02:53 Iowa was the reason tonight.
02:55 Mike, go ahead.
02:56 How tough is it when you have Chloe and Alexis on Kaitlin?
03:00 It seemed like they were getting good on the ball defense
03:02 and she's putting up shots from low and making them.
03:04 Is that dispiriting for them?
03:06 And how do you kind of think they did throughout the game?
03:08 You know, I thought, like you said, I thought Mike, they did a great job.
03:11 You know, we made it hard for her.
03:13 We knew she was going to hit tough shots.
03:17 You know, I'll probably go back and feel like, gosh, she looked awful comfortable.
03:21 But in the moment I thought they were actually not doing a bad job.
03:25 She's just that terrific.
03:27 I mean, she's an extraordinary special player
03:29 and, you know, she makes things look easy out there.
03:34 And I thought both Chloe and Lexi, they knew the assignment
03:40 and, you know, I'm proud of their effort.
03:43 There's no doubt about that.
03:45 It's the other pieces that you're frustrated by.
03:49 You know, Kait goes out because she gets those two fouls
03:52 and then it's like Molly Davis takes over the game
03:55 and you're like, you know, that shouldn't happen, right?
03:59 But give her credit.
04:01 I mean, she took advantage of the opportunity and made us pay.
04:06 Obviously the field goal percentage and the three-point percentage
04:09 went down in the second and third.
04:11 Was there anything that Iowa was doing differently?
04:13 Were you happy with the shots you guys got?
04:15 Yeah, we just weren't hitting shots.
04:17 You know, I did think there were a couple moments where we looked like
04:21 not as organized offensively as we like to look
04:24 and we were kind of going off script, just sort of one-on-one.
04:29 But Matt got a lot of good shots tonight around the rim.
04:33 Some of them didn't go in, you know, struggled from the free throw line
04:39 when we got her there.
04:41 And so there were a lot of things that just didn't go our way.
04:45 And some nights you have nights like that.
04:47 And, you know, we'll have to regroup and get back to Bloomington
04:54 and get ready for a good Minnesota team.
04:57 But, you know, tonight was, like I said, all about Iowa, had it going.
05:01 And, you know, like you said, their crowd was tremendous.
05:08 And I don't feel like the moment was too big for us.
05:10 I just don't think that we played our best basketball.
05:13 And that was disappointing.
05:15 Terri, earlier in the week you were saying that your goal was just
05:18 to have a better performance than the Stanford.
05:20 Right.
05:21 You know, 30-point loss then, 27-point loss tonight.
05:24 Right, right.
05:25 How do you think tonight compares to that?
05:27 Well, we, again, disappointing.
05:29 I didn't think that I would be sitting here and having to answer that question.
05:32 You know, but, you know, we have to regroup.
05:37 You know, it's not the second year of the season where you can say, well,
05:41 this is a good wake-up call for us.
05:45 You know, that should have already been done.
05:47 And so, you know, I think all of us, we got some soul searching to do
05:52 that we can't allow ourselves.
05:54 You know, we had a good wake-up call to get off to a slow, bad start the way
05:57 we did, you know, with turnovers.
05:59 We had opportunities and then we would just give them the ball back.
06:04 And they were getting more possessions than we were.
06:06 And you can't do that, you know, to a team like Iowa.
06:10 And, you know, another very, very, very hard lesson learned.
06:15 You guys had, I think it was 48-39, Kaitlin hits a three
06:19 and then Gabby hit a three to go up 15.
06:21 You call a timeout.
06:22 Was there a point where you felt like it just kind of started to snowball
06:24 on you guys and everything started going your way?
06:26 Yeah, there's no doubt, you know, no doubt.
06:28 There were probably a couple of those moments.
06:31 I felt like every time, especially in the second half, we were very,
06:37 very bad in the second half.
06:40 That, you know, it started to get -- it did.
06:44 It got a little bit out of control.
06:46 And then, you know, that kind of thing is contagious, right?
06:49 You see one of those shots go in and then Gabby sees a shot go in
06:52 and then Kate sees a shot.
06:54 I mean, it's Kate Martin.
06:56 And so, it is.
06:59 It's contagious.
07:00 You know, we've played like that before, right, where Sarah gets hot
07:04 and then Sid gets hot and, you know, Yarden.
07:07 And so, it's kind of a snowball effect.
07:10 And, you know, it wasn't fun.
07:15 Mike, go ahead.
07:16 Is Yarden getting her more comfortable?
07:18 She's looked kind of a little out of sorts offensively,
07:20 particularly a lot of turnovers in the first half, like three travels.
07:24 Just trying to get her back to where she, you know,
07:26 hasn't looked as comfortable since she got that 30-point gain.
07:30 Yeah.
07:31 Trying to get her back in the rhythm.
07:33 I wish I had the answer for that.
07:35 She has not looked comfortable.
07:37 She has struggled.
07:40 And we need her.
07:43 And I don't have an answer.
07:45 You know, she's had some other things that have been going on,
07:48 but we've got to get her back on track.
07:52 Are there any questions in the room?
07:54 All right.
07:55 Players will be here momentarily.
