A worker has been killed at a coal mine in central Queensland. It happened at the BMA Saraji mine near Dysart yesterday afternoon.
Transcript
00:00 Work at that mine has been suspended after this incident happened yesterday.
00:07 Queensland Ambulance Service was called to the Siraji mine at around about 1.30pm.
00:13 They found a man, he was a contract worker at the mine, he was in a critical condition
00:18 and taken to hospital.
00:22 So it's very sad news for this particular mine and also the workers at this Siraji mine.
00:29 In fact BMA has put out a statement saying that it is deeply saddened by what has happened
00:33 here and is working with the relevant authorities to get to the bottom of what actually happened
00:38 here.
00:39 So it's understood that this man in his 20s was involved in some sort of vehicle accident
00:44 on the mine site.
00:46 So that will be a big part of the investigation, finding out what actually happened in that
00:53 instance.
00:54 So we also know that the union is also involved in this.
00:59 There is officers on site that are going to be a part of this investigation and it's saying
01:04 that no stone will be left unturned in trying to get to the bottom of what actually happened.
01:10 So there was another death at this mine, the Siraji mine back in 2018.
01:16 That was on New Year's Eve when a man aged 49, his name was Alan Houston, he died when
01:22 the bulldozer he was driving, or the dozer he was operating was rolled over.
01:28 So look, bad news for this morning coming out of that mine.
