00:36 - Hi everyone, we're back for another wind down,
00:38 this time with our girl Lisa Joyce,
00:40 better known as We Got Y'all's director of student outreach,
00:43 Frida.
00:44 - That's right, Frida is signing at We Got Y'all this season,
00:47 but hasn't forgotten about Issa.
00:49 Frida's, like, tried to get Issa back in the field
00:51 and succeeds in episode four.
00:53 - But Issa surprises her by telling her
00:55 that she's actually quitting We Got Y'all.
00:58 - Bye.
00:59 - I didn't want to, like, leave you, but I needed to.
01:01 - You need to do what you gotta do.

01:05 - What's been so fun is having been a part of the show
01:08 from the very beginning is how has Frida and Issa's
01:11 relationship changed from the very beginning to now?
01:14 - I think they've gained, like, a level of honesty and trust.
01:17 And, I mean, they went through a lot with--
01:19 with the secret white emails.
01:21 It's just like, really, I'm Frida.
01:23 And, um, and then, like, Mr. Gaines,
01:25 and they just learned, like,
01:27 they could be honest with each other and then--
01:29 and do that and, like, get through it.
01:31 - Yeah, I love just how much this relationship has formed.
01:35 - Yeah. - And--but it was--
01:37 it was time for-- - No, I mean,
01:39 We Got Y'all's got a lot of problems.
01:41 - It does have a lot of problems. - [laughs]
01:43 - What is--like, what's gonna happen with Frida and Patricia?
01:45 - I think, like, this is the thing for Frida
01:47 is that she's, like, oh, these--
01:49 like, all these cosmetic changes, like, with the logo.
01:52 They're just Band-Aids. - Mm-hmm.
01:54 - And, like, there's a much deeper problem.
01:56 - Yeah, I think, like, as much as Frida, like,
01:58 is on her journey to being as woke as she can be,
02:00 she--she might, like, move on too.
02:02 - So one of the big things in this episode,
02:04 which was Issa runs into Nathan,
02:06 and Issa sort of takes an impromptu sick day.
02:08 - It's okay. - Uh... [laughs]
02:10 - I mean, it's not, but it is. - It is. It is okay.
02:12 But the one thing that--that I'm interested in
02:14 from your perspective is how is Nathan
02:16 different than Issa's former guys?
02:18 - I think Nathan represents kind of adventure
02:20 in a way where she just hasn't-- she's been stagnant.
02:22 She's been staying on Daniel's couch.
02:24 She just got her, you know, new apartment.
02:26 Nathan kind of takes her out of the ennui
02:29 of her--her regular day and her regular life,
02:32 and I think the character of Nathan
02:34 really forces Issa to consider that.
02:36 - Yeah.
02:38 - So is it out of character for you
02:40 to go skinny-dipping with a stranger?
02:42 - For me or for--for me, yes.
02:44 - Yeah. - What am I talking about?
02:46 - No, no. - Me and my character.
02:48 - Yeah. - Yes, it is completely
02:50 out of character, but I think for Issa D.
02:52 specifically, I think that, um...
02:55 she's not out there. What is she doing?
02:57 - No, I disagree. - Okay.
02:59 - I think it's-- - In character?
03:01 - I think--I think the first--
03:03 from the first episode we see Issa,
03:05 she gets on the stage.
03:07 Even if she's nervous-- - For someone.
03:09 - Right, but even still, I don't think things like that--
03:11 I think it's out of character for Amali.
03:13 I think Issa--there's a part of the Issa D.
03:16 character that does--that is underneath that
03:18 wanting to really break free. - I agree with that.
03:20 - For sure. - 100%. I feel like she wants to--
03:22 she wants to do it, and I think in that way
03:24 of skinny-dipping and deciding to open herself up
03:27 to this new person and be completely raw and honest--
03:29 because Issa's been a liar and kind of...
03:32 - She stay lying. - Yeah, she--
03:34 - She stay lying. - She do be lying.
03:36 So to, like, feel free to be like,
03:38 "This is my whole me, take it or leave it,"
03:40 to tell somebody, like, a new love interest
03:42 about her rapping, to bare that part of her soul,
03:44 it feels like this is a new step,
03:46 and this character might be a problem for her.
03:48 - One of the things we tried to do in the show,
03:50 obviously, is be very L.A., and obviously,
03:52 Issa being from L.A. and always holding--
03:54 - And you too. - I am, but you hold down L.A.
03:56 mad hard. [laughter]
03:58 Which aspects of L.A. were you stoked to highlight
04:00 in this episode, and how did you sort of
04:02 settle on those things? - This show is actually
04:04 serving as a time capsule... - It does.
04:06 - For South Los Angeles, and things have already changed
04:09 from season one, so to be able to highlight
04:11 certain places, you know, we might play a part in that,
04:13 so that's also interesting.
04:15 - I think it's a good thing that you're doing this show
04:17 because it's interesting.
