DOJ chief reveals new modus operandi on visa system for foreign nationals
Transcript
00:00 Another modus operandi has been discovered within the Bureau of Immigration or BI
00:05 pertaining to a special type of visa for foreigners.
00:08 No less than the Secretary of the Justice Department disclosed this illegal activity,
00:13 which if left unchecked would have serious implications on the country's capacity to control
00:19 which foreigners would be allowed to work in the country.
00:22 Luisa Erispe has the full details.
00:27 The Department of Justice has unveiled another modus operandi on government's visa system for
00:32 foreign nationals seeking to enter the country.
00:35 According to Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulia, they recently discovered a thousand fake companies
00:41 that were able to acquire 9G visas from the law department of the Bureau of Immigration.
00:47 Remulia said 9G visas are pre-employment visas of foreign nationals directly applied
00:53 by companies with the Immigration Bureau.
00:56 The thousand which he named fake was due to lack of permit from the Security Exchange Commission or SEC.
01:02 We're finding that the corporations that were petitioning for 9G visas
01:08 are fake corporations, non-entities which the legal department of the Bureau of Immigration allowed.
01:19 The DOJ also said this has been a scheme going on for at least five years
01:23 and they also found out some of these companies were POGO offices raided by the department last year.
01:29 Because of this, the DOJ immediately tasked the Immigration Bureau
01:33 to stop issuing visas to corporations with no SEC permits.
01:37 I'm challenging the Commissioner, the Immigration Commissioner,
01:41 to put this matter as a priority so that we stop making a fool of Filipinos.
01:51 I was also questioning the relief of the persons that I called sexual or the change
01:56 in question for the Commissioner.
01:58 I want the old persons with the records to preserve the records of immigration.
02:03 Meanwhile, the Immigration Bureau immediately responded to the DOJ
02:07 and said it already cancelled nearly 500 visas of foreign nationals.
02:12 There are also four BI lawyers who were relieved from their post because of the incident.
02:17 The BI is also looking into the possibility of dissolving their legal department for visas.
02:22 Meanwhile, Senator Coco Pimentel praised the immediate action and investigation of the DOJ.
02:27 However, he said this may be of concern to national security since these aliens
02:33 may each have a no good agenda given their illegally acquired visas.
02:38 The effect of this is very bad on our society.
02:42 We are getting undesirable aliens. We don't know their agenda, why they want to be here.
02:49 Louisa Erispe for the Nation.
